I just ordered a second one! The device works flawlessly but there is something I know that most ppl don't.My main goes was to watch movies & tv shows that are on my laptop, WIRELESSLY thru my home network. I was sick of having to burn these to dvd & wanted to save myself time & hassle.THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT & THE MAIN REASON WHY PPL GIVE THIS DEVICE BAD REVIEWS: If you want this device to work well, forget about DLNA (buggy), forget about Windows media player & files sharing in homegroup. What you need is this: SERVIIOhttp://www.serviio.org/downloadServiio is a free server that connects perfectly with this device & install on any computer (with a decent cpu). I spent hours trying to make Win7, my DLNA computer & windows media player & media center connect with the Sony SMP-N100 to no luck until I found this with help from a blogger.Fast, easy to use & very intuitive. You'll be setup in no time & will never need another device again. You will be able to control what's on the computer (as long as it's on) with the remote from anywhere in the house. It works like a DVD, plus you get access to a lot of content on the net. Don't forget to update the device.I LOVE IT!

It is somewhat slow to boot, it takes a while to connect to a DLNA in your network, and even then it doesn't find all folders and videos that are inside the same shared videos folder!
It doesn't play all video formats too. I bought it so I could have my desktop computer in another room and then stream video to the box, but I am not getting it to do that for all videos. Annoying.

I added this to my 51in early dated Plasma and now I have a suitable 'smart TV'. I can stream movies plus all the other Apps that are not even mentioned in the product description. I was surprised that i have more apps than I thought I was getting. I was able to stream one of the newer releases and the movie NEVER stopped. I am highly satisfied and would recommend this product.

The manual says that it will not play .MKV files from DLNA network. But i was able to play all my .MKV 720P and 1080P movies from DLNA. To play .MKV (Hi-Def) files from DLNA, you need to install Serviio DLNA media server (www.serviio.org). You can download this DLNA media server free from the website. This is the only DLNA server has the support for this Sony Media Player. Once you download and Install the latest version on you PC, open the console and set SONY BD/Media and set the number of cores in your pc, my case i7 (4 core). Setting up this media player and the Serviio DLNA server is easy, there are guides online as well.

This media streamer works with both the old CRT TV's and the new digital TV's including wireless capabilities. For those of us on a budget or want Green out an older TV, this is the solution.
It can convert digital to analog signal for quality results on your your existing TV.
Stream movies, videos, pictures, music from your high speed internet connection and networked PC(s). Connect external device, hard drive, thumb drive, camera, etc.. via the provided USB plug!
The setup can be a little geeky. Once that is done it is ready to learn and operate. Some older TV's may an additional adapter to connect to the provided RCA cable.

We canceled our cable service about three months ago and have been using our XBox 360 and Wii to access Netflix and Hulu Plus for our television needs. About a month ago, our XBox died. While looking for a replacement, we found Media Players. I chose the Sony based on the price of the unit for HD quality. The Roku system was $20 more/system and I was looking to purchase three. I love my purchase! I love that it comes with YouTube and Crackle preloaded. We're saving money by canceling XBox Live and we have more options. The only issue I have found is that the search function is a little clumsy but that's easily remedied by adding shows into the instant queue on Netflix and Hulu. If you've ever text on an old phone, you can search with this remote. This purchase makes me wonder why I didn't cancel cable sooner!

This an excellent alternative to buying a "smart" TV. Easy setup and use. I most like the ability to playback various media from a flash drive w/o hassle. DLNA devices are new to me but theoretically one could store various media on a DLNA-enabled NAS storge device and stream from it, eliminating the need for PC's on both ends.

I bought this thing knowing only very little about media players and the like...I was just looking for something to show relatives pictures and home videos of our newborn son (and maybe play some burned movies and stuff as well). I was super thrilled that this unit not only offered all this but access to a lot of cool online content as well such as Netflix. It's got a really cool interface, is super simple to set up and isn't an eyesore next to the tv. It plays all the file formats I've thrown at it so far. I'm not familiar with Roku, WD and all the other brands out there but as a starter media player for a pretty good price, I'd say this is pretty tough to beat!

I am an IT person and its very easy to use and it seems that they is a very user friendly device. One problem is that you have to register your apps and depending on the app its ranges from very easy to not so easy. I run a media server in my house off my 4T external drive. The set up is kinda like a PS3 if you own one then it will look 99% the same. If the format for the video file is right then it works well.. if you have the video format wrong then you will have to convert it to a different format. This little box works very well with video streaming. Pro: I love the wireless my whole house is wireless. Con:It will not play a full DVD VOB with out using a computer. I would have like it to play the dvd VOB file so that i can leave it the original DVD format and play the Start menu. Other then that my house is Wireless and it works well with the other systems. For every app you have to register is online and some apps are not the easiest to register it.My Recommendations http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/748187-REG/Western_Digital_WDBABZ0010BBK_NESN_WD_TV_Live_Hub.htmlIts the Western Digital 1T TV live HUB It is price is up this but it has come down scene i Bought Mine but it works wonders! You can also make it wireless with and adapter. Its portable when i go somewhere i grab it and go. its stores 269 of my dvd and i can take them with me when i go to my cabin.. All in all i love all three devices they do what i want!!http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/598085-REG/LaCie_301838U_2TB_Hard_Disk_MAX.htmlThis is where I store all my videos and photo that use both. I also have it ported out so that i can log in from my cabin and watch movies and my cabin.
