The Samsung HMX-H300 Full HD Camcorder (Black) is the perfect little device for capturing your vacations and family memories. Its compact size and 30x optical zoom let you easily capture 1080i or 720p HD video in all sorts of out-of-the-way places, while the large 3" touchscreen LCD gives you a range of control over how your images are recorded. Along with the H.264-format video you can shoot JPEG photos--both of which benefit greatly from the camera's optical image stabilization, which keeps zoomed-in and handheld images from getting too shaky or blurry. A 5-megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensor helps keep noise and distortion to a minimum, even under low light, letting you shoot in less-than-ideal conditions. All your video and stills are captured to a readily available SD/SDHC memory card, which allows for hours of high-quality HD footage that can be easily shared with family and friends.

I purchased the Samsung H300 shortly after I returned the Samsung H200 (previous model). The problem with the H200 was that its internal mic would record the noise from the zoom and autofocus motors. The firmware update removed some of the high-frequency noise others have complained about. But the motor noise only got worse.
So I decided to trade up for the H300. But I was very disappointed to find that it did not correct the previous model's wrongs. The motor noise is still there, yet slightly softer. But Samsung continues to mount their internal mic on the lens housing (what do they expect!). I wish they would move the mic to the back of the LCD panel like most other cameras.
But the biggest flaw is in its video quality. I was actually very pleased with my H200's video quality and sensitivity in low light, thanks to its BSI (back-side illuminated) CMOS sensor. But for some reason, even though the H300 uses the exact same sensor, it produces horrible noise and graininess in similar conditions. Even under direct indoor lighting (kitchen table with bright chandelier) I experienced noticeable noise where I did not with the H200.
I thought that this had to simply be a problem with the firmware calibrations and it must have been fixed with an update. But no. I was already running the most current version of firmware. So that's when I decided to give up and return it.
For my purposes, I was looking for an HD camera that could record in a native format like .mov or .mp4 so I could easily edit without converting. I did not want an AVCHD camera because I didn't want to spend hours and hours converting before I could use the footage. If you are in the same boat, you'll find that your choices are limited to Sanyo, Samsung, or a few different "generic" brands.
After trying a Sanyo and several other cameras in this category, I have given up and went back to DV until the industry improves.
I do have to say that the 30X zoom is amazing, and the stabilization is buttery smooth. Besides that and the nice .mp4 format, there's not much else on this camera worth mentioning.

Bought this camera to record my Son's Football games. It works great in full HD. however the battery life might only be about 2hrs instead of 3. But I wasn't counting on 3 hrs. Zoom is awesome as well as the Picture. I connected directly from the camera to my HD TV and it was like watching the super bowl in HD 1080. Great picture. I reccomend this camera.

For the money, this little camera is fantastic.
The video is great, and the zoom is also fantastic.
The built-in video stabilization feature is a great add on, and I recommend anyone from someone looking for something to record memories on or even to beginning film makers (like myself) to get this camera.
There are really no problems I've had with the camera. It comes with plenty of built-in effects and settings, everything from Macro and White Balance to Color modes that make a fun time for beginners.

GREAT HD QUALITY. HAS FEATURES OF CAMCORDERS COSTING TWICE AS MUCH. ANY CAMCORDER AT SUB $500 PRICE POINTS ARE GOING TO SUFFER IN LOW LIGHT. THIS CAMS NOT TOO BAD THOUGH NO INDOOR ISSUES THAT I HAVE SEEN. THE BEST HD QUALITY WILL BE OUTDOORS THOUGH. IF LOW LIGHT PERFORMANCE IS YOUR THING YOU'LL NEED TO SPEND MORE.

It doesn't matter what you do or how you try to use this camcorder, the only thing do do is to send it back where it came from. Poor video, stabilization is like inexistent even in what they call "duo" mode.
My advise: stay away from samsung, these people don't know the meaning of the word quality.
