I use this camcorder to shoot long distance video primarily in a rough terrain river setting on a tripod with a video fluid head. The focusing is immediate and incredibly stable. Particularly noticeable is its ability to maintain focus on several subjects in a roughly 20'x12' area at extreme zoom. When the back lighting is wrong skin tones wash out quickly and going manual loses the incredible auto focus.
