The Kodak PLAYSPORT Zx5 Video Camera (Red) brings a new level of toughness to a pocket camcorder. So I bought the Zx5 after looking at all my options and watching some YouTube videos that compared the 3 to the new 5. I bought the new Zx5 and took it to the Bahamas for a true test of what this camera could withstand. We used this camera in the pools, in the ocean, in the rain and on the many sunny days while in the Bahamas. And I am thrilled to say that the camera did not disappoint. It is so intuitive that our 7 & 10 year old kids understood all the basic functions after only a few minutes. The underwater compensation is a great effect and really worked well. This feature, while needed for the underwater shots, is something that can really take away from non-underwater shots. So if you buy this camera, which I would suggest, try and remember when you turned on this effect for underwater shots so you can turn it off once you're done. That might be my sole gripe, that we often left that feature on when shooting 'typical' shots in the daytime and that resulted in a cloudy or hazy photo. Lightroom or another program can help sharpen and brighten the photo I found. But if you just turn it off when you don't need it I bet you'll be happy the daytime photos. There is no flash so this camera/camcorder was only used by our family for daytime, outdoor photos and videos. And other than the shots where one of us left the underwater effect on, everything came out great. This camera is light, rugged, well made and good on the battery. I think I charged it once or twice over seven days of use. I did try and wash the camera in fresh water at night to lessen the likelihood of any buildup around the (2) doors that open. All in all this has to be one of the better values out there. If you're going to be around pools, beaches or any inclimate weather and are looking for a camera/camcorder to complement your point & shoot digital camera (with flash) or DSLR, look no further. Pick this one up, throw it in the bag and shoot away.

For a cheap little camcorder you can throw around and get wet it's impressive. Video quality is surprising, I shot a snow trip and although it battled a bit with the white it still managed to keep stable and focused, a real point and shoot. Although you can shoot at a quality suitable for iPad it's still frustrating, but it's not Kodak's fault. Quality feel, my last waterproof camcorder was a Sanyo and it felt cheaper than this and it wasn't. Only downside is the mono audio, such impressive picture deserves stereo, but if you're going to put the video to music this isn't such a problem.

For what this camera is designed for, it works great! Small enough to take anywhere, and it is very user friendly. Image quality isn't as good as a big video camera, but considering it's size, it is normal. If you are looking for a small video camera to take everywhere with you, it is the best!

This camera is great for shallow underwater shots. I have not used it extensively but so far, it has been worth every dollar. I shot some great underwater crayfish clips. Non-underwater footage is not great but the cam makes up for that with great underwater features. Easy to use, edit and share.

The lack of flash is obviously a con but everything else is great. I believe that for the price, the zoom is adequate but could be better in the next model but do believe that all of the features of this camera are great for my needs. Please note that any lack of clarity in the water and there will be issues with the videos but in a clear pool, this is an amazing tool. The ability to pull a shot out of a video from the camera tools is fun. HD quality is actually very good on 720 and 1080.

I received my Playsport Zx5 on Friday and took it whitewater rafting on Saturday. It worked perfectly. My buddy was shooting and went overboard with it without any issues. It captured everything including the dunking. The software for emailing and posting to social media sites is fantastic. It's simple to set up and distributes selected clips automatically when camera files are uploaded to my laptop. I lost my last Playsport in a river. This new model improves an already great little camera. Note that with this model, batteries cannot be swapped, so I will need a charging method for longer trips in the wilderness.
