The dedicated Vello EW-78BII Lens Hood for Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lenses is specifically designed for use with Canon's EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens, by extending and shading the end of the lens. A dedicated lens hood is designed to perfectly match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

Comments about Vello EW-78BII Lens Hood for Canon EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lenses:
Lens hood works fine. It is a very expensive piece of plastic. On the good side, I took a hard fall down a steep bank with my camera on a tripod. The lens hood was destroyed but my camera, lens and filter all came out OK.

Comments about Vello EW-78BII Lens Hood for Canon EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lenses:
It does what it's supposed to do very well.
I purchased this after scratching one of the lens, and as I go climbing mountain quite a bit, I'm less worreid of scratching the actual lens.

Comments about Vello EW-78BII Lens Hood for Canon EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lenses:
I bought the lens hood a few weeks ago. I decided to try an off brand from canon and it seems just fine for the simplicity of the lens hood. Saved some money. It fits and works perfectly.

Comments about Vello EW-78BII Lens Hood for Canon EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lenses:
I got this hood mainly because it looks identical to the Canon OEM lens hood and costs $10 less. It does its job of keeping away stray light in viewfinder and photos and I use it all the time with its respective lens. It fits on the lens nice and snug, unlike Nikon hoods (albeit they are included with Nikon lenses) which fit a little to loose, feeling vulnerable to sliding/unscrewing and falling off. I would have given this product 5 stars if not for the (very) slight inconvenience of not aligning very well when being placed in the reverse position. It goes on and off reverse position but it takes a little precision work.

Comments about Vello EW-78BII Lens Hood for Canon EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lenses:
This hood doesn't fit properly on a Canon 18-200mm, especially when you are taking pictures @18mm, you can see shadows on the top and the bottom. It disappear when you are @24mm or more.
Good material, nice price.

Comments about Vello EW-78BII Lens Hood for Canon EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lenses:
This vello hood is an exact copy of the canon hood that I had originally. It fits perfectly; there are absolutely no issues whatsoever. I would recommend vello as a replacement any day.

Comments about Vello EW-78BII Lens Hood for Canon EF 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lenses:
This is a near perfect swap for the canon hood, but at 5 bucks less. Mounts the same as the canon (not one of those pain in the a%$ thread on types). Even has canon etched on the hood like stock. Can also be reversed on the lens for storage.
