This Fujifilm FinePix S3200 14MP Digital Camera (Black) offers a lot for a photographer looking to upgrade to a more advanced camera: 14MP resolution, an astonishing, high-quality wide-angle 24x optical zoom lens (24-576mm equivalent), an electronic viewfinder and advanced features commonly found in sophisticated DSLR cameras.
Beginning with a crystal-clear, 3" LCD monitor with 230K-dot resolution, the S3200 has high sensitivity up to ISO 6400 that allows you to take pictures at dusk and other low-light situations, and CCD shift image stabilization prevents camera shake from ruining a good shot. Automatic scene recognition will know when you're shooting a portrait, a landscape, a night portrait, a macro shot, etc. and make the right adjustments to give you the picture you want. The macro function allows you to photograph a subject as close as 0.78' (2 cm) from the lens. Tracking auto focus keeps a moving object in focus, and the face/smile/blink detection mode optimizes pictures of people, catching the smile and missing the blink.
And on top of all these techno-goodies, you get HD video with 720p resolution for those times when only a movie will do.

This camera performs very well in daylight conditions. Lens is of surprisingly good quality for the price and range. Resolution is good and colors are fine although a bit too neutral for my taste. Focus speed is ok on the wide angle end but considerably slower in the tele end. At night the focus speed becomes bothersome on the wide end and borderline unusable on the tele end. Noise and resolution are better than most pocket point and shoot offerings in daylight, and about the same as a pocket cam in low light situations.
In essence this is pretty much a mid to high grade pocket cam with a better lens and a viewfinder for about the same price. Cannot compete with bridge cameras of about double it's price... obviously.

I liked my camera! It takes good pictures when you need just to point and shoot and also has the option to control settings, like speed, apperture...i just have to learn how to use and combine them better!
What I liked about the camera was the wide angle(i was able to fit so much more things in the photo than my old poit and shoot), the super zoom (it's really powerful), and the panorama mode, very funny!
The battery (NiMH) lasted like one day and a half of sigthseeing.
The EVF and the wide screen are also positive points.
The price is also another positive point.
What I didn't like was the result of photos indoors or at night, some with the flash were ok, some not.
And other negative point was the weigth, but it is compensated by the anatomy, although it's a little heavy it's comfortable to hold..and the cap to the battery slot is also a little dificult to open without clicking other buttons..
but in general, it was a nice choise, i'm very happy with my camera!

High quality lens, camera provides all functionalities that can be required from an amateur camera. Ergonomic grip and good quality materials. However, it is rather surprising that it is sold with no rechargeable batteries.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix S3200 14MP Digital Camera (Black):
I had high expectations for this camera upon purchasing it as I tend to be alittle biased as Fuji was the brand of my very first digital camera. Im still working with all the features but I can say this from the 60 or so pix that Ive taken:
First off this camera peforms pretty badly in low light. forcing you to hold the shutter open for a really long time which is furstrating because for some reason, image stabilization on this camera is mysteriously bad. If you dont want to hold open the shutter, then youre forced to adjust the Iso. But any photographer knows that the higher you go in Iso sensitivity, the grainier and off-color the image will be. Also the aperture feature is extremely limited and doesnt help too much in low-light situations either..
Zoom, although very expansive -like *ALL* super-zoom; bridge; advanced point-n-shoot cameras- the closer you get on the subject the more the image suffers and less stable it becomes.
The overall image quality is great! 14 megapixels really creates a clear image and the color looks really good (especially the greens in my grass!) The HD still is a really nice touch as it bumps up the image quality that much more. Be prepared to do alittle adjusting as they start out pretty dark. So youre gonna have to do some tweaking but once you get your settings right, you will deff Not be disappointed.
The viewfinder is kinda touchy too. Its bad enought that were presented with a low quality version of whats on the LCD but for some reason, to add to its small size a border is visible around the frame making it difficult to compose. I wouldnt say the EVF is useless, just hard to use (but does work and helps conserve battery life).
Overall: this is a good not great camera, it does has its shortcomings. I recommend shooting on M (manual). I see far too often, people giving poor reviews on cameras that they havent even fully tested yet and then they send them back without using the camera to its full potential. I, myself have more work to do with this camera but I dont expect anything in this review to change.
I love the size, the ergonomics, image quality and some of its features. As a hardcore Fuji fan, Im still waiting to blown away....

Purchased the S3200 after reading a number of reviews, as i needed a small, light back up camera ( normally use a Nikon D7000 ).
It's a nice, light camera and reasonably easy to use, but the image quality is lower than i expected from a 14 MP camera.
It takes a reasonable shot in bright daylight, but the image quality is very poor in low light, flash or no flash, even after trying a number of different settings.
At Large and Fine, the jpegs are large, but they're not exactly what i would call "fine".
OK for casual snap shots, but that's about it.

A great camera for the price with so many features and options. Nice to have an 'auto' mode for general shots but also nice to have all the specialty modes for certain photos. One of the main selling points for me was having the viewfinder as well as the big display on the back; sometimes the light/glare is so bad you really can't see the display. The only thing I don't care for ( and it's not a big deal ) is that you have to open the battery compartment to get at the memory card.
