The Fujifilm FinePix F550EXR Digital Camera (Black) is a little camera with big ambitions--a 16MP digital camera with a 15x zoom lens (24-360mm equivalent) featuring ED glass for color fidelity and superb sharpness, a back-illuminated CMOS sensor that produces images with exceptionally high resolution, high sensitivity, low noise, and a greatly improved dynamic range, gorgeous 1080p full HD video, plus playback functions that make it as easy to post pictures and videos online as it is to shoot them.
Built-in GPS creates tags with latitude/longitude or place names on photo and video images, allows you to search images by GPS name tags, and it can calculate and display the distance from your present location to where a tagged photo was taken, such as a favorite restaurant!
The F550EXR has a bright 3" LCD monitor with 460K-dot resolution, and face detection/recognition technology that optimizes focus and exposure for people pictures, automatically removes dreaded red-eye, and recognizes up to 10 faces/photo. EXR Auto recognizes and optimizes settings for 27 different scenes automatically. A film simulation mode mimics the look of a select Fuji film (Provia/Standard, Velvia/Vivid, or Astia/Soft), black and white, or sepia for exactly the look and feel you want. A Pro Focus mode with face detection produces an out-of-focus background that's perfect for portraits, and the Pro Low-Light mode takes a rapid series of photos in low light and combines them into one beautiful low-noise photograph.
The motion panorama mode will automatically stitch together photos for an impressive ultra wide-angle photo (you don't even need a tripod!), and tracking auto focus keeps moving subjects (think kids, pets, sports, party animals, etc.) in focus. CMOS shift image stabilization and sensitivity up to 12800 ISO make blurry photos a thing of the past.

I came to this camera from a F10. The F10 makes great pic's, but a lot of them would be blurry. So I got this new one for vacation to get more quality pictures. Took this one on a cruise and it was great. I'm not even remotely close to being a photographer, just your average Joe. I wanted a camera that would take great pic's without all the blur, just point, shoot, and move on to the next thing. I set the camera on EXR mode, Had the advanced anti blur turned on, and let the camera do its thing automatically. Out of 1100 pictures taken, I had less than 50 blurry and a couple of red-eye. About 1/4 of the pictures taken, were me just holding the camera out with one hand in the direction I wanted a picture and depressing the button. I couldn't be more happy with the results. Even at 15x zoom, I got some amazing photos. I played around with some settings like the tracking mode to where the camera tracks objects and would auto focus on them, which worked great at the aquarium when picturing fish on the go. It even has a setting on the timer that it will only take pictures when it detects faces, which came in super handy when holding up the camera to self snap pic's of girlfriend and I, it'll keep snapping photos until you turn it off. Nice!
Video... not so great, it was choppy on its highest setting, I was using a 8gb class 10 memory card. My Droid X does better quality; however, it IS a real expensive phone. It would be nice to use the camera, instead of putting it away and digging out my phone if I wanted to video the grandkids. I know that I bought a camera and not a camcorder, but it was a little disappointing, since my F10 does great video for a camera. Maybe if I dropped it down to a lower setting, like 720 instead of 1080, it would be better. Maybe it's just a setting that I need to hunt out. Again, I'm just an average user that wants to point, shoot, and move, and not fiddle around with settings. Maybe Fuji will come out with a software fix that will rectify the issue. I read a couple other reviews that had the same issue with video on 1080.
Battery life.... I don't know about other cameras, but my F10 would go days on a charge, about 400-500 pic's with flash, and would last months just sitting around waiting to be used. This one, lasted a few hours to a day, depending on how much I used it (gps, advanced anti-blur, auto focus all turned on). I didn't keep track of photos per charge, but 1100 photos, 8 days, averages 137.5 a day. So definitely get a spare battery. I had one, and used it often (not more than once a day). The quality pictures that I got made it all worthwhile for me. Two batteries would be enough for the average person like me.
Build quality. Feels pretty solid. Not too heavy, not light either though. Fit into my pocket easily without being overly bulky. I had to send the camera back in, waiting for a replacement. The shutter door that protects the lens wouldn't shut after the second day. I'm sure it's a fluke, because looking at other cameras, they had the exact same looking shutter doors (yes, other brands besides Fuji). Battery door is plastic and another door on side is plastic. Side door seems like it has the potential to break if not careful with it.
Settings. More than I'll ever use. Interface is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Wasn't too different from my F10.
Overall, to me and my girlfriend, we were thoroughly amazed with the quality of the photos. We viewed them on a 55 inch big screen, and was blown away! Amazing detail, and the colors were as we saw them with our own eyes. Printing out pic's, wow! Really nice (printed on Epson Artisan 810). Even though I'm a little disappointed in the video quality on 1080, I'm still satisfied with the camera and quite happy with my purchase. B&H is a great group to work with. For someone that wants a point and shoot with great quality pictures, this camera is a fantastic choice. If you try to compare this to a $1-2000 DSLR, or a camcorder, you'll be disappointed. When it's all said and done, it's still just a point and shoot camera.

I bought this camera because I was essentially looking for a point and shoot with the ability to substitute my big bulky DSLR for certian shoots. I chose this camera over the alternatives from Canon and Nikon because of this long zoom, GPS, high megapixel count and finally the 1080p video. If any of the other cams had 1080p video I would have gone with them. After using the camera for a few weeks I have to say that it is ok at what I need it to be.
Good things -
Video is good, not great, but good. Focus could be faster, but it is not a deal breaker.
Photos are crisp and clear
Flash is convienant
Panorama mode is cool and easy to use.
Bad things -
Shooting in the dark with the flash is very weak, can't get more than a few feet of distance lit up.
Video slow to focus.
1600 iso and up starts to get grainy.
Sometimes the battery will die while the camera is still in shooting mode, and if it does you lens will be stuck out and this can be annoying because now you can really stow the camera easily and you don't want to manually push in the lens. I wish they could better handle this and not let the camera activate if it won't be able to retract the lens.
ALSO, be sure to buy an additional batter or two, this thing eats through them like nobodies business, especially if you plan to use GPS, video, or review your photos.

I got this camera about 5 months ago and within the first week it broke. You would turn it on and the lens would come out but the screen would remain black. Turning it off would result in it shutting down then immediately opening back up. I called the company and got another one. Since then it has worked fine taking the pictures I wanted but today, it broke again. In both instances nothing has happened I just go to turn it on and it freezes. Clearly there is a glitch in the camera and I would never encourage anyone to buy this.

It's pretty simple to use it. My first non-Canon camera in over 25 years and no regrets at all. The GPS not really accurate but I think I can live without it!! The video is really good!

While this camera has some nice features, there are a few things that left me not very excited after my test. The main thing is the GPS's lack of support outside of the camera. The longitude and latitude informatin are not embedded into the file Meta Data, it is tracked on a track log but I could not get the track log info moved into the file. I did make a call to FUGI and was told that the log file was not importable. So for the use that i had this was not good.
I also found the image suffers from to much JPEG atrifacting. I perhaps expected to much from this camera.

A friend recommended the camera. He has a lot of experience with photography. I really like the panorama feature. The focus and clarity are great. I ordered two batteries so I would have a back up on trips where I couldn't recharge. It's a great camera.

I bought this to take to Mexico for my wedding and absolutely love it so far. It lets you take pictures fully manual and Auto. Has a pro focus that makes pictures look professional (softness) without knowing what you are doing. It is small enough to carry with you everywhere and replaces an SLR when you do not want to carry one.
No view finder is disappointing but the huge LCD makes up for it. It is very fast and Battery life is great. But I still carry an extra battery for safe measure.

I bought this camera to use for street photography where using my D7000 is not an option. Pictures have been excellent. I shot in Raw format (ISO 100) only and have the GPS and sound both turned off, so there have been no battery issues. I do carry an extra battery since I take a lot of photos when I am out. As part of my test on the camera I have done photos in both very bright and and very low light without flash. The only negative I have found is that in very bright direct sun there is a tendency for vignetting.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix F550EXR Digital Camera (Black):
The camera is an excellent all-round point and shoot: great zoom, good image quality, great resolution in low light, acceptably fast, nice travel zoom features like GPS etc.
Unfortunately this is not as intuitive as say the Canon S90 (my erstwhile compact camera). However, once you have taken the time to learn the settings/ menu functions to suit your preferred shooting style and have learnt to work within the limitations of a point and shoot, this camera gives excellent results.
My only grouse is that the image stabilization could have been better. Not to say that it's bad but like many other P&S cameras, at the long end of the zoom or in very low light (high ISO), you have to hold it rock steady. This could have been compensated for by a viewfinder (holding the camera up to your face steadies the camera quite a bit ... at least for me). The only other feature which may be a little painful is the speed at which RAW files are recorded.
All in all, I find that if you set the camera to ISO Auto 400 (or at most 800 is it's really dark), set the White Balance to Auto (unlike with the S90 where it was best to set to cloudy), set colour to Provia in bright light and Velvia in afternoon/ evening light, set size at 8-10MP, shooting in either P mode or A (aperture priority mode) is just as effective as shooting in M mode(manual).
Some of the other features (like Panoramic mode and Pro-focus mode) are fun and easy to use. The EXR modes are also effective if you'd rather not experiment and want the camera to boost image quality or dynamic range.
I could never give a P&S camera a 5 rating, so 4 is about as good as it gets. Given the mix of image quality and features, the S90 (say) would only score 3.5.

Easy to use. Charge the battery, place the memory card and you are ready to go. Pictures are crisp and sharp. Easy to use set-ups, fast, extremely fast. Of course it depends on the memroy card. I am using the new Sandisk 45mb/s card. Excellent.
As optional, camera records files on raw format, which gives u an option to edit/perfect it.
Camera includes a built in GPS, its so cool.
With the GPS the battery life is shorter but its not a con. you should expect that if you are constantly using the GPS function.
I love it. Great pictures.

I waited a couple of months for this camera to come out. I use this for vacations & everyday photos. I am upgrading from a fujifilm F10 to the f550exr with GPS. The F10 had sensor problems(got droped) and too much lint in the lens. I do like the f550 it takes nice looking photos the zoom works really nice. The panorama function is really nice! capturing movies is easy to do as well. A few grumbles, the icons on the mode selector dial are wearing off after two months. I have lint already inside of the lens too, and i keep it in a lint free case too. It takes a lot longer to boot up than the F10. I like to do quick shots - power the camera up take the shot and turn it off. The F10 was so much better on batteries, some vacations i never had to recharge the batteries. The F550exr uses up the batteries quick. The GPS is slow to find you if you are out in the middle of nowhere hiking. Twice now it finally found my location by time i was done hiking (Arches N.P. no trees around either to get in the way). I have left the gps on all the time when got home, but the next time i went to use the camera the battery was dead. Also the video auto focus is slow on the uptake, I tried to take a movie of a rattle snake crossing the road but half of the time it was out of focus. Oh the Macro really got under my skin too trying to take a photo of a flower, it would not focus on the flower. Yes there probably is a setting to get it to focus, but i didnt have the time to find it, while taking ten pictures of the flower. Overall I do like the camera, just a few grips

I'm not photographer. I wanted to have compact camera (to put it in pocket) with good picture quality. F550EXR is not DSLR, but enough for me. I think, SP mode (program AE scene modes) is most useful. Negative: to change program, you have to call menu, I would prefer special button. I have tried flash to eliminate deep shadow in bright daylight - it works. I have tried zoom in to get less depth of field for portraits - it works too. Picture quality is not shakes, but enough for family album or my blog.

The GPS feature is nice for travel, and seems to do a good job. It recognizes major landmarks/attractions; Central Park in NYC for example. Storage of recognized faces is a convenient. Zoom is smooth. My biggest complaint is image quality. Even at ISO 200 noise is noticeable and distracting. If image quality is important to you, look elsewhere.
