Panasonic HDC-SD80 High Definition Camcorder (Black)
The Panasonic HDC-SD80 High Definition Camcorder not only provides you with HD video, but flash memory convenience and a number of helpful shooting functions. After you pop in an SD/SDHC or SDXC memory card (and charge the battery of course!) you're ready to start recording high-quality 1920 x 1080 video, and even 3MP digital stills. Flash memory recording is not only free from the hazards other recording media like DVD or hard drives possess it's easy to transfer and store. This makes uploading for editing and sharing on the 'net hassle-free and fast!
When it comes to the core features of the SD80, you'll find Panasonic's Crystal Engine Pro and a 1/5.8" CMOS sensor at its heart. The sensor may capture that stunningly detailed footage, but the engine lends speed when processing, along with smooth zooming and noise reduction. The camera also has HYBRID O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) to ensure blur-free footage. Other features include 42x Intelligent Zoom, a 33.7mm wide-angle lens, and a 2.7" touch panel LCD.
New to the SD80 would be Panasonic's zoom microphone and wind noise canceller. These two features help you to zone in on your subject's audio, while reducing wind noise, all without the need for an external mic or headphones. Panasonic also gave this camera its Intelligent Auto function. iA takes the guesswork out of shooting by giving you a menu of pre-set settings for capturing the best video possible for your particular situation.
Have fun after the shooting's done. The Advanced Highlight Playback function automatically selects dynamic scenes and arranges them, with music! You'll have an instant montage to share right on the camera! And when it's time to edit and share your video or photos, the SD80 comes packaged with Pansonic's HD Writer AE 3.0 software. - 60 Frames/Sec High-Speed Burst Shooting
- This function lets the camcorder snap up to 60 consecutive 0.9MP still images per second for a total of 180 continuous images in about 3 seconds. The resolution can also be increased and up to 30 consecutive 2.1MP still images per second can be shot for a total of 90 continuous images in about 3 seconds. You can use it to analyze a golf swing, tennis stroke or other motion. You can also use it to get good shots of subjects in fast motion. Just fire off a number of shots without stopping, then keep the best ones and delete the rest.

I bought this camera because I wanted to start recording my newborn son. I spent a lot of time searching for a good camera for a reasonable price, yet at the same time, something that would stay current with technology. With everything going to HD and the huge price difference related, this camera fit the bill. Most other reviews raved about this camera and so far I have been more than impressed. B&H delivered way faster than I imagined. I think it was like 4 days and it was on my doorstep.
Only con I have is the button for record. If your a right handed user swinging your thumb at an awkward angle to push it is a pain. I end up always using my other hand to start and stop recording.

I use this product to video everything from my children's sports to just every day events. Great picture and sound quality. Very easy to use. Easy to take places with its compact design and light weight. The zoom works great and does not lose any image quality. I would prefer the zoom be further into the body of the camera, but I am getting used to it.

Turns out this great little camera will also record in a format that Mac CAN read. Image looks great. Only wish it had an external mic input.

I wanted to get a High Definition camera with all the bells & whistles, but I also wanted it to be cheap and small. Let me tell you: Yes, you can have the Best of Both Worlds if you look hard enough! Panasonic HDC-SD80 High Definition Camcorder is TINY; it literally fits in the palm of my hand but yet, it has plenty of features that you would normally find in much bigger and more expansive cameras. It is extremely fast, as well. As soon as you open the side panel I mean the screen, the camera is already ready for action. When you close the screen back, it turns itself of, automatically. How cool is that? You don't have to worry about draining your camera because you forgot to turn it off. I also like the fact that it has a touch screen, which makes it easy to navigate. The menu is VERY intuitive and there is also"info" option for every function. That way, if you are not sure what a specific feature does, you simply touch the info button then the function that you want to learn about, and voila! The camera gives you the full description of that function in complete sentences. By doing so, you don't have to refer back to the manual. What a convenience! The camera has also a built in flash that comes on automatically when it's too dark, and even a "movie" mode that you would find in much more expansive cameras. The optical zoom is x38 and it can go up to x 42 WITHOUT deteriorating the image quality. I am also very pleased with the battery life. You really do not need to carry a spare battery unless you are going to film for more than 4 hours non-stop.Last but not least, the camera has this really cool feature that adds background music (you can change the type of music by the way) and very cool transitions to your filmed pieces on a specific playback mode. I have never seen such a feature in any other camcorder!Oh yes! One more thing which is the best part and that's the price of the camera: I ONLY PAID [$] FOR IT at B&H Photo and Video! B&H shipped the camera to me at no charge. I did not pay any tax for it either since I live in Florida. Can it really get any better than that? I love this camera. It is well worth the price. I got this camera for christmas, but chose it myself. I, like you, was unsure of what camera to get. This one is my first choice and here's why:
Pros
Easy to use
Long battery life
Fairs well in low light
Nice, fast focus
Very nice hybrid image stabilization
Great zoom
Good frame rate
Small
Cons
A little confusing when downloading onto computer (Must manually plug in camera for some computers to recognize files; it's with nearly all HD cameras)
Eats up memory (as all HD cameras do)
zoom audio wasn't as spectacular as people made it out to be (but you can turn it off)
I would recommend getting a 16GB memory card and a second battery, but really,
that will just make things easier for you in the long run.
If you want to see some footage taken with the camera, search "hh1n" on YouTube (channel name). All HD videos shot with the HDC-SD80.

Use:Home-Sports,pets,and family get togethers.
Video Quality: Great, looks good on the lcd screen and output to a HD tv. Have not burned to cds yet. Still picture quality is lacking.
Ease of use: Did not need to read the Manuel. Intuitive and user friendly
Zoom: Great, fast and image stabilization is great.
Would Recommend to friends and family!

I purchased this on recommendation of your customer service folks. They matched it to a specific purpose I wanted a videocam for So far, so good. My iMac imports the video quickly, and allows me to fiddle with them. The camcorder is going to travel abroad in January, and I am learning it quickly b/c it is easy to use. I was surprised by how small it is, but there seem to be a great many features packed into the little goody.

I used this product few times only but I am very statisfied about it. Easy to operate and compact + it make nice videos. The 42X zoom is powerful.
The device power On and ready to record in about 2 seconds, so it is very fast when I want to record something rapidly. No complaint so far. I also have a panasonic camera and I like their quality products. I would recommend to anyone that want an affordable camcorder for home movies in HD.

I bought this camera and immediately went on vacation to a family reunion. I haven't had a chance to download videos to my laptop yet but the are amazing in playback. I recorded out the car window at 50 MPH on a beautiful drive up a Colorado canyon, and the video is crisp and clear as a bell. The zoom is also very powerful. This camcorder fits in the palm of my hand - it is tiny but mighty and adjusts itself perfectly for changing conditions. It is remarkable in low light. I will love recording my little grands in their sporting activities. Very Impressive!
