The optional Panasonic VW-CLT1 Conversion Lens is required for shooting 3D images
Recording media is not included, be prepared - always carry extra media.
Panasonic's HDC-TM90 High Definition Camcorder features the option to record in 3D recording, along with 1080p 2D video, and internal 16GB and SD flash memory storage. Using the optional VW-CLT1 3D conversion lens the TM90 gives you the ability to make fun and unique 3 dimensional memories that literally pop! Finished 3D movies can be viewed on any 3D TV that is compatible with the side-by-side method, including the Panasonic VIERA 3DTV.
When it comes to making good old 2D movies the TM90 doesn't fall short. With 1080p recording and a multitude of quality features the camera not only yields stunningly detailed, vibrant, and life-like footage that will look great on your HDTV, it also gives you the tools you need to create memories that will last a lifetime. The CMOS sensor and Panasonic's Crystal Engine PRO processor work together to produce those high def images quickly, and with the incredible beauty and detail that only progressive recording can give.
Progressive recording, as opposed to interlaced, reproduces the entirety of an image - the lines of information going across and up and down in an image. This means that your colors will be more vibrant and true to life and details will be more well-defined. Progressive literally records twice as much information from your scene than interlaced does. When you put progressive footage up on your HDTV you'll see the incredible detail and lush colors that standard definition and interlaced recording can't match. Not only that, but shooting 1920 x 1080/60p also means that your video is future-friendly - making it usable and relevant for many years to come.
Other tools of the TM90 include a 28mm wide-angle lens. This lens helps you to get everyone in the scene. A 3.0" touch screen LCD gives you a generous platform on which to record and review your footage. The touch operation gives you an intuitive way to move through menus and change settings without taking your eyes off your subject. Other standard camcorder features include HYBRID Optical Image Stabilization, for keeping your footage steady, and a 40x Intelligent Zoom.
In addition to being a high def camcorder, the TM90 doubles as a 5MP digital still camera. You can leave your dedicated still cam at home - freeing yourself up from the burden of a weighed down bag and from having to switch between units. Other features of the TM90 include a bevy of user-friendly shooting controls. These controls help take the guesswork out of recording, allowing you to focus on the moment and not trying to figure out the correct setting for a particular scene. Functions like face detection, scene modes, and Intelligent Auto, among others, give you the options you need to make the most of your videos!
When you're done shooting and ready to share your memories the TM90 gives you numerous options. Use the included HD Writer AE 3.0 software for editing, archiving, and sharing your footage, including help uploading to social media sites like YouTube or Facebook. Using an optional mini HDMI cable or the optional VIERA Image Viewer you can view your video on your HDTV. You can also burn your footage using an optional DVD burner. And yet another option is to use the in-camera Advanced Highlight Playback which turns your scenes into a creative montage complete with music.
Only half of the image data is reproduced in each picture. Fabric patterns run together, and moiré patterns appears
Reproduces all of image data in a single picture. Patterns in fabric are crisp and clear with no color bleeding
Intelligent Resolution Technology
The Intelligent Resolution Technology incorporated in the new Crystal Engine PRO uses edge detection technology to confirm the edges of objects within the image, then emphasizes the edges for optimal clarity. For example, it brings crisp definition to patterns and the outlines of objects like flowers. Conversely, it reduces noise and enhances the natural smoothness of parts without edges, like the sky. The increased sharpness is especially effective for images with delicate details. This highly advanced technology maximizes the beauty of Full-HD images
The Zoom Mic function that links with the camera's zoom action has evolved even further. Compared to previous models, the noise-reducing performance is improved by 1/3 (-10dB).* It lets you clearly record the sound of your target subject
The Wind Noise Canceller automatically detects and suppresses only wind noise. It lets you capture natural sounds with lifelike ambience even when shooting in windy conditions outdoors or by the sea
Beause the left and right eyes are located at different positions on the face, the left and right eyes perceive slightly different images. The difference between these two images is called 'visual disparity'. The brain processes these two images with visual disparity to reconstruct spatial conditions, enabling us to see things with 3-dimensional depth
Images for the right and left eyes are simultaneously recorded through two lenses, using a 3D conversion lens that artificially reproduces the phenomenon of visual disparity
The TV alternately reproduces the left and right images, which are viewed through 3D Eyewear. To play back 3D videos, simply insert an SD memory card in the slot of a Panasonic VIERA 3DTV or use an HDMI mini cable to connect the camcorder to a VIERA 3DTV or a side-by-side method compatible 3D TV
You can easily zoom in and zoom out by simply touching the LCD with your fingertips. Shoot at any angle of view while watching the screen
Even when shooting movies, you can touch the subject on the screen to instantly focus on it, and easily switch to still-image shooting
You can flip through thumbnail pages, display one of the thumbnail scenes, highlight a scene, and more, with easy, intuitive, fingertip operation
Active mode comes in handy when shooting while walking or playing with your children. The wide correction area corrects even relatively large hand-shake motion. It's especially good for active video shooting
This mode captures faces beautifully. With Soft Skin mode, complexions are automatically enhanced to make faces attractive
This mode is ideal for shooting wide landscapes and sweeping vistas, such as at the ocean or in the mountains. It balances the exposure over the entire frame to prevent brighter parts of the image, such as the sky, from being washed out or having blown highlights
The camcorder automatically uses this mode for scenes with particularly strong contrast, such as when you're shooting a spot lit area on a darkened stage. It captures the well-lit subject perfectly and prevents washed-out areas
In dim lighting, the camcorder automatically switches to a slower shutter speed so that images across the entire frame are bright and easy to see
Sports, Portrait, Spot Light, Snow, Beach, Sunset, Fireworks, Scenery, Night Scenery, Night Portrait, Macro
There is a mic input terminal on the side of the camcorder. Plug in an external mic (optional) if desire
Optional accessories can be attached here to increase shooting versatility
This function detects subjects who are registered in advance and automatically snaps the shutter to catch the subject's best possible smile. It's great for capturing the smiles of certain people in a group
This function automatically snaps the people within the LCD frame smiles. It gives you shots of an entire group of people smiling, making it great for group shots
Simply touch a subject within the LCD frame. This function will then lock on and start tracking your subject. When the subject smiles, it'll automatically snap the shutter
How to combine motion images that are split onto two types of media as a continuous scene
The Relay Recording mode automatically switches from the built-in flash memory (once it's full) to the SDXC/SDHC/SD Memory Card and continues recording. You don't have to worry about missing an important shot while switching media
You can also use the editing software that is included with the camcorder to join the split data as a continuous scene
If the SDXC/SDHC/SD Memory Card is not big enough to hold all of the split data, use a DVD burner to create a disc with all the motion images as a single continuous scene
Enjoy more impressive highlight playback with natural switching effects
View highlight playback of the images you've taken, together with a variety of fun effects
Enjoy highlight playback with speedy, dynamic effects
Enjoy highlight playback with dramatic effects applied mainly to your subject's faces
The Face Highlight Index selects scenes that have faces in them and displays them in an index format. This handy function lets you quickly find and view scenes that have people in them
The camera automatically selects and displays the most exciting scenes. It determines the level of importance of each scene based on zooming and panning, and whether there are faces. This gives you an easy, convenient way to view all the highlights together
This mode divides each recorded clip into 3 second, 6 second, 12 second, 1 minute and 5 minute intervals, and displays them. This is convenient when you want to find a specific scene within a long clip
Connect your HD camcorder to a VIERA or compatible Blu-ray Disc Player via an HDMI mini cable, and you can control both units in synchronized operation with a single remote control. This kind of simple, easy operation makes it enjoyable to view your recordings
Just slip the SD card from your camcorder into the VIERA Image Viewer card slot on your VIERA TV, and you're ready to view full-HD moving images recorded
You can make a copy either in the original high-definition AVCHD format, or in the standard-definition DVD-Video (MPEG-2) format. Choose the one that matches your playback equipment
Use the included HD Writer AE 3.0 software to save Full-HD 1080/60p data onto a PC or an SD card
To view the disc you just burned, simply connect the HD camcorder to an HDTV via an HDMI mini cable
When the camcorder is connected to a PC, the software automatically starts up. Importing data takes only a few clicks of the mouse
The videos you've recorded are easily uploaded to YouTube or Facebook in their original high quality. HD Writer LE 1.0 lets you share your videos worldwide
It's easy to add titles, rearrange scenes, provide transition effects, and edit images in single frame units
Make a copy either in the original high-definition AVCHD format, or in the standard-definition DVD-Video (MPEG-2) format

The Panasonic HDC-TM90P is a good choice for people who want to record HD video on a budget. This Panasonic camera has rich features that are simple to use an easy to access. The automatic settings do a great job for general video work. Advanced users will find a good set of manual configuration features including picture stabilization.
One of the first things that you may notice when you unpack the camera for the first time is that the form factor of this camera is small. In fact, this camera only weighs approximately 8.5 ounces. Small form factor cameras while handy come with a price. Typically the optical quality of these smaller cameras is restricted by their size. This is because smaller lenses are able to gather less light. Panasonic has done an excellent job with this small form factor and their lens. The electronic picture correction features such as auto white balance and automatic focus works well with their lenses. For a consumer camera, the picture quality is pretty good. The lowlight performance can be spotty. This is probably due to a smaller lens.
Each year the manufactures promise that the quality of the LCD display is better. They also claim that this is true for shots that are recorded outside in bright sunlight. With this camera, Panasonic has done a good job but there's still room for improvement. Panasonic includes a stylus along with a camera. The stylus is useful for those who do not have great dexterity. Generally, navigating the menus with the built-in touch screen display is rather easy.
The TM90 records to either it's built in memory or SDHC cards. An 8 GB SDHC card will generally hold about 1 hour of recorded video. Recorded video will come in one of two formats. These two formats are AVCHD and iFrame. It is important to check to make sure that you're editing software supports either one of these formats or both. Adobe Premiere CS5.5 and CS5.5 Premier Elements have native support for these formats. For those with Mac, later versions of editing software such as Final Cut Express and Final Cut Pro also support these formats. High quality HD video is supported all the way up to 1080p at 60 frames per second. Please note that if you're using 1080p the file sizes of this format may significantly hamper editing on older computers.
The audio quality from the built in microphone is OK. If you have the availability of an external microphone it may be a good idea to use it. Encoding of audio is achieved through the Dolby AC3 codec.
This camera also provides an exciting new option. This option will allow you to record video in 3D. This requires the purchase of an optional attachment for the lens. The specific camera that was used for this review did not have this optional 3D attachment. Considering the quality of the original picture it is expected that this format in 3D will do a great job.
The battery life on the TM90 is fair. You can generally expect to get approximately 1 hour of record time off of the battery. For larger video projects it is recommended that you purchase additional batteries. One unfortunate issue with the battery is that Panasonic does not have a way to charge additional batteries while the camera is in use. It is a good idea to make sure that you have charged your batteries before you go out in the field or start your video project.
The Panasonic TM90 seems to be a great choice for people who are looking to buy a camera in the 450 to 500 dollar range. With a combination of its automatic features and some handy manual features, this camera offers high quality and flexibility at a reasonable price.

The thing I hate first and foremost is the unintuitive menu icons. I bought the camera, took it to an event straight after I received it in the mail. Glanced through the manual, but you learn by doing and with this camcorder its a guessing game. Almost every other icon is a stupid smiley icon, when I believe other solutions are viable, so that was super frustrating. Aside from the poor menu function, the quality of the picture is pretty clean. I have not done anything in 3d, yet. Also this camcorder IS NOT Apple/Mac friendly. Even the directions in the manual ONLY describe how to do things with a pc as if Apple computers didnt exista and dominate everything. So yeah.. I dont know.. I feel like 3 stars is a bit too high for what I expected..

I use this camcorder for home movies. The small size and ease of use are great. The start up is fast and the quality of the video is great. I do notice when I am filming outdoors I do pick up the wind sound. I have not used the cam for stills.

No complaints so far. Works well, decent low light performance. LED light on the front is nice. Ergonomics are a bit off - reaching the zoom can be difficult sometimes. Zoom is ridiculous, but you need a tripod to take advantage of the full zoom power. Comes with a stylus for the touch screen, which would be handy, if the camera had a place to store it.

Comments about Panasonic HDC-TM90 High Definition Camcorder:
I mostly use the TM90 for videos of kids and pets plus events around the house. I love the auto-focus, the 40X zoom, ease of use plus the how detailed the videos look on even a large screen TV.
It produced pretty good macro type shots and I like the golf shot feature (180 frames in 3 seconds.)
I like the fact that it has manual controls, but it is slow to use.
The only downsides are items usually found in higher end cameras, like a a larger sensor for better low light, an optical viewfinder and a manual focus on the lens itself.
Am very happy with the camera is best for the price.

Comments about Panasonic HDC-TM90 High Definition Camcorder:
The HDC-TM90 High Definition Camcorder by Panasonic really turned out to be an excellent buy. The HDC-TM90 reviews that I read were right about the quality and performance of this unit. The pictures stills from this unit are good. I took some light challenging pictures around my darkly-lit computer room and was amazed at the quality. Mind you, these are just 5 meg pictures and not large photos produced by today's modern cameras. I also ordered the optional VW-ACK180 ACCESSORY KIT that came with a small camera bag, spare battery and charger. All contents of the kit were high quality components.
The camcorder zoom is smooth and razor sharp. What I like a lot about this unit is that you can close the video display door, and save battery life, and still shoot video. You will need to start the recording process before you close the door for this to work.
The camcorder's software is good but limiting and I would advise you to look for a more open and full video editing software without proprietary limitations. The image stabilization is very good and there are two panning modes to chose to suit your needs.
Overall, I am very satisfied with Panasonic and will buy again. I will certainly recommend this product to anyone especially for this price, you can't beat it.
B&H Photo Video is where I bought it from and a trusted source for all your photo needs. They are known world-wide for a quality, professional service. They delivered it again and again.

I was looking for a good HD camcorder with a price tag I could live with and boy did I find it! I'm not real proficient withcamcorders, so I needed one that was easy to operate. This one is so easy, I just picked it up and started shooting. Now I have filmed a couple of the grandkids b-day parties, and could'nt be happier with the camera!

Comments about Panasonic HDC-TM90 High Definition Camcorder:
After extensive research of online reviews, I selected this camera. It is a best buy in a major consumer review magazine and they have never failed me. The camera is a great performer. We have been using it weekly and have already made some great DVDs of family sporting events, etc.
The quality of the video is very high; however to take full advantage of the HD quality you will need a blu ray player and computer set up to burn them. The HD output is 1980x720 and standard DVDs are maxed at 720x480. I burn mine as DVDs but the footage is very high quality.

TM90 is nice compact camcorder that produces very high quality video, and pretty good jpg. Camera is light, compact, and pack with more features than most camears in that price line. I recommend buying a separate battery charger instead of using the camera to charge the battery. I am very happy with my purchase.

We own this unit and use it for High school Band functions,Football games ,etc. It works great and the Clarity even at night (stadium lights) is clear as a bell. Distance shots are ok too. Of course we're catching a Band all spread out so YES people are at a distance. Haven't tried close ups of one band member yet!

Comments about Panasonic HDC-TM90 High Definition Camcorder:
This is a terrific camcorder. It is small and lightweight, but extremely powerful. The included software is a bit cumbersome, but make sure to use it to import the video to your computer. If you film long videos (rather than short clips) the camera stores them in 4GB segments. The included software (HDWriter 3) will automatically merge the files on import, whereas if you just drag and drop the files (using the camcorder like a hard drive) you will have a small gap between the 4 GB segments.
I hadn't bought a camcorder in 10 years, because I didn't think much improvement had been made. However, after bad experiences with several small, cheap pocket cams, I was blown away by the TM90.

I bought this camcorder to use for my DJ business. I make short montages of the events I do (YouTube). I really Like this camcorder,it records very well in low,flashing,multi-colored lights(thats what I needed) it has a great feature called "Highlight" that can automatically create short clips of the events(if you want to be lazy and not do post video work on your computer) It has Great zoom capabilities, up to 1500X-You will need a newer computer with a lot of "Horse Power" to use HD camcorders-It's a Great camcorder for under $400-small and lite weight-If you can't afford it's "Big Brother" the 900 series, then this is the way to go.
