Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX7V Digital Camera (Black):
I have taken just over 300 photos with my new Sony. I have tried to experiment with different lighting conditions and settings to see how this camera performs in different situations.
The reason I chose this camera is because I wanted a small, powerful, point and shoot camera with smart Auto settings. I take this with me everywhere and have used it at dinner parties, outdoors, and taking pics of the kids around the house. I want something I don't have to think about. I just want to turn it on and take a great picture. This camera works perfectly for me in that respect. Overall, I am very pleased.
First of all, I am very pleased with the clarity and resolution of all the pictures taken indoors, using the flash. I have a Nikon P90 and cannot take a natural looking indoor flash picture with that camera. Everything is always blurry and/or orange. With the new Sony, the colors are natural and not washed out. One thing I noticed pretty quickly, however, is that reds are more pronounced. Everyone looks like they are wearing lipstick and even the slightest skin blemish is accentuated. I have read about this in other reviews and decided to try it anyway. It isn't a deal breaker for me, but it is very noticible.
Low-light pictures taken with no flash are not quite as good as I expected. They are much better than my old olympus P&S, but not as good as my Nikon. They are bright and natural colored, but very grainy. Sony has tried very hard to get this right, and I think they have done it better than many others. I doubt any point and shoot camera can ever get close to DSLR quality. I also took some outdoor portraits without a flash. I found that clarity to be nice, but certainly not as good as when using a flash. My Nikon performed much better in this situation.
I love all the Auto settings on this camera. It is hard to get a bad picture. It even knew the subject of some of my portraits was an infant. I'm not sure what it did differently, but I was impressed with the fact that it could tell. ;)
Overall, I am happy with my purchase. I definitely see some shortcomings... the fact that it takes 5 seconds to switch between different settings/modes, for example. I also don't love the way it makes skin look, or that the low light photos are so grainy. But, it does take great pictures in most circumstances. I will admit, I've never been 100% satisfied with a camera. I think this is a great camera for the price. It is easy, versatile, compact and portable.

I USE THIS CAMERA WHEN I DON'T WANT TO LUG MY SLR CAMERA AROUND. IT'S VERY COMPACT AND EASILY FITS IN MY POCKET. IT'S NOT GOING TO GIVE THE PERFORMANCE OF AN SLR BUT IT WILL DO THE JOB FOR TAKING FAMILY PHOTOS OR CONCERTS.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX7V Digital Camera (Black):
I was up in the air between this model and the next one up (Hx9v). The only thing that sold me on this version was the price. I am not disappointed. I love the quality of Sony's pictures, the camera has a fantastic lens. The zoom is why I was looking at higher priced cameras and this one is excellent. It's a wide angle lens, which is great for capturing entire scenes. The functions may seem like a lot while looking online, but it has a very simple menu that anyone can figure out just after a few minutes of use. This camera is also far superior to any that I've tested in low light (birthdays, pictures of cities at night, christmas trees). It has a special mode for low light while holding (as opposed to a tripod), which takes a few pictures all at once and combines them to make sure the picture isn't shaky. Some other great features are the panorama shot, 3D function, and, my favorite to play with, is the smile detection function. This is great when you are just shooting candids of family. It will automatically take a picture when someone smiles. (there is a gage, which you can set, to decide when to take the picture, i.e. big cheesy smile, a normal smile, and a soft smile.
(For the best uses section: I have only been able to use it in a few scenarios, thus far)

This is a great little point shoot! Good picture and video quality. Bought it for my wife but I like it so much I want one! I also have the new Canon S100 which is also a great point n shoot but I find this Sony to be just as good and a lot more fun to use! Would buy again! Definitely will buy the newer model when it is available.

I am a canon user, with three professional canon camera's and a bunch of L series lenses, but for a daily use camera with a good price and great functions, I would recommend this camera to anyone that would like having good photos in low light & having an optical zoom lens 10X, and also with panorama and 3D shots...the video is Full HD 1080 x 1990 ;) .... go for it and never hesitate ;)

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX7V Digital Camera (Black):
This is my 4th Sony. My last one lasted almost 5 years until I damaged its zoom ability.(It was still a VERY durable camera) I LOVE this camera! The auto adjust for low light pictures is great without having to spin a dial like previous models. The new location of the zoom is also an upgrade. I am a "point and shoot" kind of person, and this camera fits the bill. The panoramic feature is a nice addition, and the 10X zoom is a great upgrade from my previous x3 model. I would recommend getting an extra battery, and keeping it charged. The in-camera only charge feature is kind of a drawback if you aren't prepared for a long day of shooting. Like other Sony models, I do notice slight redness in some situations, and some undesired issues if the sun is shining directly towards the lens, or the screen on the back- as there are some glare issues. Other than that- this is a great camera for anyone of any ability. My nature, night time, daytime and action shots have all been crisp and clear. (16MP is more than enough to crop pics without losing definition after your zoom only goes so far!) Movies are also great. I purchased this camera with NO reviews yet written, but as usual Sony comes through.

Bought this camera specifically for travelling knowing that weight restrictions on flights...and just the pure convenience of not having to lug around bags of equipment whilst out and about, would make this a more practical choice than a digital SLR.
Shoots great pictures with great 16 megapixal resolution as well as a 10x optical zoom, and even shoots HD movies. The panoramic shot function is one of my favourites and has allowed me to get some great shots.
Full of features, easy to use, easy to carry and a quarter of the price of an entry level twin lens digital SLR. For the space conscience traveller, this a great choice.

If you are looking for camera which has good quality pictures, aditional features and good zooming cpabilities ...but you don't want to carry a "gun" which can barely fit in you backpack than sony DSC-HX7V is for you.
I have been shoping around for alternatives and found panasanics, whish actually very similar to this on in everything, however readign reviews found that sony was better picture quality especialy in poor lighting. Of course I can't compare as I bought only this one, but I'm prety happy with quality I get from sony ...and I can still pass it for a compact as I don't have much trouble with it taking to the parties or other get togethers with frinds :)

We've bought this camera for our 3 weeks trip to USA and we really enjoyed it: easy to use, convenient, high quality of pictures and video.
Very convenient in travelling and spontaneous filming. From amazing closeups of animals in Zoo till panoramic, rich in colour view of Magic Kingdom streets (Disney World Orlando).
Very stable and fast, you can count on it.

This is the second Sony camera I've bought. I use it quite a bit to take concert pictures & am very happy with the features of this camera. I've always used point & shoot so I can keep it in a pouch on my belt for easy access. The resolution & zoom are great for this style of camera.
