Not only is it tough as nails, the TX10 also takes gorgeous 16.2MP high-resolution photos and full 1920 x 1080 HD video, with its wide-angle 4x 25-100mm (equivalent) zoom lens. The CMOS sensor gives you high speed, high resolution and amazing low-light sensitivity with superb clarity and greatly reduced grain.
The bright 3" LCD monitor (with 921K-dot resolution) makes it easy to compose your shots and check them during playback. Optical SteadyShot image stabilization and sensitivity up to 3200 ISO eliminate blurry pictures due to low light conditions. The Superior Auto mode recognizes 33 scenes for photographs and 44 scenes for movies, and supplies the optimal settings for each one of them. You can even shoot 10 full-resolution images in 1 second with high-speed shooting technology.
There are plenty of creative effects available too: 3D and 3D Sweep Panorama, Background Defocus (perfect for portraits with a professional look), and many more. For flattering pictures of friends and family, Soft Skin, Smile Shutter, and Anti-Blink modes give you the best pictures time after time. Superior Auto mode automatically and intelligently recognizes 36 different scenes and instantly supplies the best settings for each one.

Let me start of and say, I haven't bought a camera in a LONG TIME........ (Not since early 2000).
I enjoy taking pictures, but all I want is convenience, with a little creativity and ruggedness.
I pretty much bought this camera to use for everyday use (parties, outings, etc...), as well as being rugged enough to take a beating (not that I treat my stuff badly, but hey, I'm kind of clumsy...sometimes).
It does what it says it will do and that all the other reviews here and on the Web are pretty accurate (I don't know about the..."IT DOESN'T WORK UNDERWATER...." reviews, as I haven't used it in water), this is why I'm giving it 4 stars, I might change my star rating when/if I use it in water.
I also haven't used the 3D features as I don't own the latest and greatest 3D TV's/Computers. If 3D does take off (unlike 8 Track/BETA/MiniDisk/HD DVD's) , it would be I guess future proof in that way, but I have no way in saying how good the quality is.
Get to know your camera, what it can do and can't do. If you are spending extra cash on something electronic, get the extra insurance. I can see a piece of hair or dust, anything small enough to keep the seal "open" to let moisture/water into the camera and ruining it. Also going from a cool, air conditioned environment to a hot and humid environment might cause condensation in the device or visa versa. These are just my thoughts, so please take it with a grain of salt.
On to the touch screen, yes it is a little finicky, but I found that if my hands were bone dry it wouldn't be responsive, as soon as I licked my finger it worked (I guess using hand lotion would work as well). This is during the winter, so summertime might be a different story; this is why I put the touch screen as both pros/cons below. I use a touch phone and it is not of the fruit kind, so I am used to the touch screen lag (I want it to respond NOW >:( ... eye roll).
I bought this camera with the bundle package - extra battery/8GB class 6 card/pouch/2 yr Sage protection and it was well worth the bundle. I did take around 340-350 pictures at 1 of the holiday parties and I needed the spare battery (whew). This is of course with a lot of reviewing and some 2-3 minute videos.
Tip & Tricks
I noticed when I use 12MP I get to utilize the widescreen/16:9 pictures, which uses all of the real estate on the LCD instead of the full 16MP, portrait/4:3 pictures that only uses 2/3's of the LCD. Unless you are planning to have you pictures blown up to enormous sizes 12MP is good for regular size photos/facebook.
For panorama, I changed the setting to take the photo vertically, turning the camera 1/4 turn, then pan horizontally in the direction it states to go, this is to make the pictures larger in height. This is great for facebook purposes as you can view panorama pictures larger than the usual, photo horizontal, then pan horizontal.
Do yourself a favor and if you want to keep your LCD screen nice, buy a screen protector.
Use the wrist strap, this camera is a slippery sucker.
Pros:
- Taking pictures without the flash in low light is great very natural looking.
- Very easy menu to understand/straight forward
- Touch screen
- Large LCD screen
- HD movies
- Background defocus
- Panorama
- Takes pictures quickly as long as you are in the correct setting, not the auto/scene settings.
Cons
- Movie takes long to start recording (if in picture mode 1st)
- Touch screen
- Have to charge the battery within the camera
- No HDMI cable included :'(
I really enjoy this camera as the learning curve for me was quick and painless, but then, I'm kind of a tech geek guy.

Many negative reviews were written for this camera, and the preceding DSC-TX5. Sony advertises camara as waterproof. I rationalised paying extra for this camera to get this waterproof feature. First time jumping into a swimming pool, the camera got water in it. The camera was well within the warranty period. Sony would not cover the water damage. I was disappointed. The warranty department said the camera had corrosion???? I believe the camera is of a design, that does not stand up to the integrity, Sony is advertising. Many reviews state the same incidence. I would not have bought the camera if I read all the negative reviews. I will not buy another Sony camera based on Sony's warranty service.

A wonderful camera.
The only con is the zoom. But then again this camera
Is intended for all around activities, not far away
Shots. Plus, u can always zoom in and crop (even
While the photo is still in the camera using the recapture

I am a college student who knows that things spill, get dropped, etc. Therefore, I bought this "crushproof, waterproof..." camera with the hopes it would withstand a beating. It seems more fragile than my Pentax Optio (old waterproof camera) and I have not tested it underwater yet. It withstood the craziness of my pocket at Mardi Gras, but it remains to be scene whether it can handle a Senior Year Spring Break. Update to come.
The touchscreen is a little annoying, although nowhere near as bad as some reviews say.

The one big problem with the camera is the front slide to protect the lens when not in use. I've already had problems opening and closing it. I can tell there's going to be more problems in the future with it.

I love this little camera. It's SO light and small. In fact, it's so small that I would not recommend it for people with big hands but it's perfect for petite people like me. You need to be quite precise when pushing buttons on screen and your fingers can easily get in the way of the lens.
Technically the quality is very good, nice pictures (for a point-and-shoot) and amazing HD video. Awesome to take panoramic photos with the "sweep panorama" feature. I haven't used it underwater yet but with a small child I like the idea of the camera being water and dust proof!
Highly recommended for travel as it's so portable, has a great panorama feature and has wide-angle.

works well, even low light. Already dropped it on tile from the kitchen counter and still seems to work with no issues.
Actually would rather have lower resolution, 16mp just seems so pointless, testing with 5mp, but don't know results yet.

Touch screen. Clear big pictures for oldies. Easy mode for the technologically disadvantaged like me. Dummy proof, can press everything and not destroy it. Many modes and settings for different pictures. Still experimenting. Get my big finger in the way of the photo sometimes as I am not use to a gadget that is so small. Great pictures. Can't wait to use it underwater.

The manual of use is so simple. It would be better more complete instructions of use. I like the small size and the quality of pictures and video. The wide angle is great, but I´d like a little more power zoom.
The touch screen sometimes no response, and sometimes is very sensitive and you access a function that you don´t want. I prefer buttons.
I like the auto selection to close focus. I like the caption of natural colors in flowers, (magenta).
I´ve couldn´t have access to the program for see my videos. Sony must include the drivers and the program with your purchase and the cables for conect to a TV.
The flash control is limited. Only auto and cancel, sometimes you want to add the flash for special situations and you can´t.
Great combination: waterproof and housing. But you need learn to use with your experience, not with the manual.

- I used it for a trip in Montreal and New York, and in a Canadian Parc called Mauricie. I also tried taking photos under water (swimming pool and lake).
- Pictures and even videos are of very high quality, whatever the conditions are : day, night, panorama, portrait, underwater, city, countryside, etc...
- Maybe zoom is a little be just but you can arrange this by redimensionning the photo on your computer (quality is so high than you can easily zoom on the computer). Battery drops in a day and a half with very intensive use. At the beginning, you often mask the scope with your finger but it is a habit that you quickly loose
