The Canon Powershot A800 Digital Camera (Black) takes the guesswork out of deciding what you need in a digital camera--it has everything you need to take beautiful color photographs.
Start with the basics: a high-resolution 10-megapixel CCD sensor, a 37-122mm (35mm equivalent) 3.3x zoom lens, and a bright 2.5" LCD monitor for composing and viewing your pictures.
The Smart Auto mode will automatically choose the right settings, based on 19 predefined common shooting situations (including Portrait, Kids & Pets, Beach, Snow, Foliage, Fireworks, etc.)--all you have to do is push the shutter button for great pictures every time. Face Detection technology optimizes focus, shutter speed and exposures for the people in your photos. Low Light mode plus Blur Reduction technology plus sensitivity up to 1600 ISO means you never need to worry about blurry pictures, even when there isn't a lot of light. Red-Eye Correction is built-in, and there's even a Macro mode so you can take dramatic close-up pictures (from as close as 0.4"/1 cm!).
This compact (3.7 x 2.4 x 1.2"/94 x 61 x 31mm) and lightweight (6.5 oz/186 g) camera runs on easy-to-find AA batteries, so you can take it with you everywhere--and never miss a good picture. A required memory card is not included.

Bought this camera for my 9 year old son. He started using it without me even showing him how, so easy and intuitive were the controls. Nice features and good quality.Only negative is that it doesen't come with a case, but then again, one can't really expect that at this price point.

This is several steps up from our old snapshot cameras, and it is digital. With a removable card it is very versital. Love the image quality too. Got it with a charger and batteries, but since it also takes AA batteries one won't be down with dead rechargeables.

I bought this camera for my whole family to use. The Powershot A800 is a great, inexpensive and sturdy digital camera. It is simple enough for my six year old to understand after a small demonstration. The "Blur Reduction" on the video feature was helpful as well. I recommend this camera as an inexpensive "trip" camera because it is small and simple to use, and if something happens to it, you won't have to replace any expensive equipment. I think it is a good value for a small digital camera.
The only draw back that I can see; is the heaviness of the two AA batteries that it holds. However, that does make it easy to find and replace dead batteries anywhere.

My son is having a good time taking pictures with this camera. The controls are very simple. It's compact, seems pretty tough, and takes regular AA batteries. I think it's going to be a big improvement from the really inexpensive cameras some people have given him which didn't take very good pictures, weren't easy to use, didn't connect easily to computers, and broke fairly quickly.
