The Canon Powershot A1200 Digital Camera (Black) is a powerful combination of great image quality and easy-to-use creative features. High resolution of 12.1 megapixels, a 4x 28-112mm (35mm equivalent) wide-angle zoom lens, plus a 2.7" LCD monitor for composing and viewing photos and video put this camera in a class by itself. In addition to the LCD monitor, the A1200 has a genuine optical viewfinder, the traditional, preferred method of composing photographs for many professional photographers.
Gorgeous 720p HD video is built-in and easy to use. Sensitivity up to 1600 ISO and a Low Light mode will make blurry pictures a thing of the past. No fuss, no muss Smart Auto mode programs the optimal settings for 32 common shooting situations, and Creative Filters make creativity easy with Fisheye, Miniature, Toy Camera, Monochrome, Super Vivid and Poster effects for more high-impact images. A Discreet Mode disables the sound, flash and AF beam to let you take photos in quiet areas without disturbing anyone. And all of this is powered by easy-to-find 2x AA batteries.

OK at best.
This is an inexpensive camera so you basically get what you pay for.
The pictures are grainy in low light.
It doesn't shoot very quickly.
Outdoors, the pics look great.

The small size makes it very easy to carry all the time. Have found it easy to use as a basic camera and can see that there is much more that it can do as I learn how to run it.

Comments about Canon Powershot A1200 Digital Camera (Black):
I was looking for a digital camera for snapshots and decided to spend 80 bucks on this compact camera. After using it for 2 weeks, I want to say it meets my needs, taking decent photos, responding fairly fast, providing a neat and intuitive interface, and being super portable. I had read some reviews complaining about the horrible shots gotten in a dark environment. Well, if you need to take shots of fast moving objects in a dark place, you better invest more on a camera, but don't expect a $80 camera would do the job. I've been using Contax G1 and G2 for many years and I'm quite careful when it comes to composing nice photos with limited tries. So when using Canon A1200, still I can get good shots, because I know what I am doing.

I use it as a pocket camera or when I don't want to lug my DSLR. Looks like it takes OK pics. I have only used it twice, but so far so good. I mainly bought it for the viewfinder so I can see to frame in bright light.

This camera was purchased for my 10 year old son. He is havinga blast with it. He loves taking pictures and I think his favorite part is using the "fish eye". It is perfect for him in size. So far every powershot we have bought in our family (3 total) has been perfect for our uses for taking snapshots of our family at different times. Thank you.

Comments about Canon Powershot A1200 Digital Camera (Black):
I bought this as a starter camera for my grandson and my experience with the camera basically confirms all good reviews below. Photos are easy to take and of good enough quality to make decent 9X12 blowups from all focal lengths. And Program Mode is available for learning a bit about some of the technical stuff. Good color and pretty clean. Movies are also good. You can hear the zoom noise a bit. I like the AA batteries since rechargeables are inexpensive and last a long time. Since 8GB cards are under $10, he won't run out of memory. As long as he doesn't drop it, it should be just right - fitting into a shirt pocket and weighing less than half a pound. Small hands match well with the size. And having an optical viewfinder makes it a wrap.

I bought this camera to have at work to document various events throughout the year. It takes sharp pictures in any lighting! Down side is the lag time for the shutter speed. Difficult for action scenarios. Love the macro zoom...amazingly crystal clear at VERY close range. Optical zoom works great. Digital zoom is very grainy though so much so that I don't use it.
I need to purchase two cameras for folks I work with who will be using the cameras to document evidence. The macro will be perfect for them.

Full manual control pocket digital camerea plus competely dumb mode for others and lots in between. Unadvertised bonus is that you can take bracketed exposures for HDR processing (Requires external conversion from JPG back to RAW.) Fantastic value.

This product is used for preliminary photos of medical malpractice suites. It is easy to use set up or use one of the Programed Scean Shooting Modes.
In bright light situations when it can be difficult to see the screen you can use the viewfinder, something other point and shoot cameras don't have. The viewfinder also allows you to easyly stabalize the camera rather than holding it at arms length to compose the picture.

My daughter tried a kodak camera which worked fine for about a year but they don't hold up. I have a Canon DSLR and use one of their point and shoots at work - very durable. Add that with the features packed into this item at less than $100 = ideal.

I love the fact that is has an optical viewfinder. It is so hard to find a camera that does now in the point and shoot line. I hope they continue to offer a camera that does in the future as well.

Comments about Canon Powershot A1200 Digital Camera (Black):
Part of Canon innovation and quality is keeping and building on good ideas. Major advantages of the A1200 over other similar point and shoots are 1) the choice of digital screen or the view finder to frame the shot and 2) no battery chargers since AA batteries provide the power and they are available everywhere. The advantages are compounded if you combine 1 and 2 and use the viewfinder option. Battery life can be weeks in the field, not hours. Small size, rugged under field conditions, no rocket science approach to menus and buttons and button sequences to use the camera. The camera is a friend not an obstacle. Excellent, clear photos at a low price with superb B&H service, it is a bargain. B&H was recommended by a friend and I'll do the same.
