The Opteka Platinum Series 58mm 0.2X HD Panoramic "Vortex" Fisheye Lens for Digital & Video Cameras is a lens that gives an intentionally warped look to your video or still images. Compatible with both digital and analog / film cameras, the lens features six elements (in four groups) that result in 0.2x magnification and enable up to a 220° field of view. This generates an extreme fisheye effect. Foreground elements are "pulled in" to the frame, and distant objects are made to recede even further into the background.
The fisheye effect is a useful weapon in any videographer's arsenal, even though it certainly will not be used on every shoot. When it's called for, however, the effect is unmistakable, and the high-definition "Vortex" Fisheye Lens produces one of the most extreme fisheyes in the business. It's perfect for extreme sports, music videos (especially for a retro "1990s look"), and for engendering disorientation in an audience during a dramatic scene.
The 58mm 0.2X HD Panoramic "Vortex" Fisheye Lens includes both a 52-58mm step-up adapter ring and a 62-58mm step-down ring.

Purchased the lens for my DSLR for amateur photo taking. Pretty wide fisheye image. A little blurry around the edges however... Also, it's quite heavy. All in all it works out well for the price.

I got this lens as an add-on for the fisheye effect in photography. Did not buy it for videography. I attached this lens to my Canon 18-55mm kit lens.
The pros are, it works well and I was pleasantly amazed to see how wide an angle I could get out of my 18-55mm kit lens. This attachment has a metal body and is very solid and robust.
The cons are because it's metal, it's very heavy and when attached at the end of a tiny kit lens, tends to pull the lens downwards. I have to hold on to it when I focus. Also, being heavy and attached to the end of the lens, the autofocus on the kit lens struggles to turn this heavy attachment around, so manual focus is very much recommended. Another disadvantage is that it is very bulky and it's odd shape makes it a challenge to pack.
All in all, I would recommend this for its price and value for money, but of course don't expect top notch fisheye performance. But for what you are paying, this thing delivers!

I give it 5 due to the quality to price ratio. This is not as great as a Century Optics but it is also much cheaper. The vig is pretty bad but a simple closing of the aperture fixes that for sharp edges around the outside. The picture quality is amazing and if you're looking for something for skateboarding or other sport use this is perfect. Great field of view, sharp image, and when zoomed in for no vig it looks just as good as the .3x opteka. I would highly recommend buying this product for the price. If you want test footy then look up mrwashur1991 and look at some of the vids
