The 1TB Home Media Network Hard Drive, Cloud Edition from Iomega is a powerful and versatile network storage device with a plethora of enhanced online connectivity features. The spacious hard drive connects to your home network via a Gigabit Ethernet connector and works to bridge the gap between local and online storage -- which is also known as cloud storage.
You can configure the drive to automatically upload files stored within specified folders to Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr. Its remote data access feature allows you to access your data when you are away from home -- all you need is an Internet connection. You can also invite friends and family to view specific files or folders stored on the drive -- a great way for you to share family snapshots and vacation photos with relatives who think that Twitter is a little yellow cartoon bird who is constantly harassed by "puddy tats."
When you are at home, you'll be happy to know that the drive can stream multimedia files to UPnP/DLNA devices. This includes game consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Apple TV owners will be happy to know that the device has a built-in iTunes server. The Home Media drive also has a built-in BitTorrent downloader, which can grab files from the Internet -- even when your computer is off.
If you are in need of a network backup solution, it should comes as no surprise that this Swiss Army knife of a drive does that too. It can backup all of the computers n your network, and is also compatible with online backup services like Mozy Pro and Amazon S3. Mac users will be able to perform network backups to the drive via Time Machine.
Photographers will be able to download photos from a digital camera to the drive via USB. You can also set the drive to downsize and watermark your photos, perfect for those who wish to share their work online -- but don't want to see it stolen and reproduced without permission. The USB port can also be used to connect an external hard drive -- giving you more room to store files -- or to connect a printer -- making it easy to print from any computer in your network.

I bought this device primarily for use as a media server and time machine back up in a mac/linux environment and have been fairly impressed on both accounts. Out of the box this device was great. I plugged it in and started file transfers of my iTunes library via Ethernet. Needless to say it wasn't as fast as Fire800, but at least the 80+ GBs of info went w/o failure. I plugged the device into Airport Base Station and it worked w/o a hitch. A time machine backup of my wife's device was started over the wireless network and 11 Gigs of info were miraculously transferred in under an hour. I was quite impressed to say the least, but on top of that I was streaming a Netflix movie to my Apple TV at the same time. It is such a relief to know my wife and I are able to back up our machines wirelessly w/o giving a thought to plugging in.
A bit of research left me doubting wether or not I would be able to use the cloud features of this device with my Airport Base Station, but I should not have worried. In a matter of 10-15 minutes all port forwarding had been set and I can see this device great from anywhere. File transfers on the other hand or not as reliable as I had hoped, but as long as you stick to smaller files everything should be just fine. That being said, I have downloaded and uploaded 50+ MB files over the web.
All and all this is a great device for the price. I am still working out some of the kinks with iTunes media server and automated disk backups but I am more than pleased with the abilities of this device. Anyone looking into creating a wireless home on a budget should really consider this device.

I have the IX-200 and this unit. I use this second unit as a remote redundant drive for my media collection. The drives are quiet and when connected on the same router, the data is transferred fast (5-6MB p/s). However, when transferring in the cloud environment (remote location), the transfer rate is SAD. The transfer rate in this environment is around 30KB p/s. Frustrating when transferring 1-2GB files. Streaming content is limited to nonexistant. It takes way to long to transfer and buffer.
For smaller general data files, this unit would probabily work very well.
Also the iPhone app needs alot of work. Basically it is not useful at all.

I purchaced this product to backup my PCs over the network. It did take some playing around, but I finally got it working fine. You'll need to turn OFF your Antivirus during the copy process and reactivate afterwards. Which makes the sheduled backups a pain.... but if you plan do make your backups manually then this is a good deal.
Comments about Iomega 1TB Home Media Network Hard Drive, Cloud Edition:
Small footprint and sleek design was instrumental in helping me decide on the home media network hard drive. My experience with this NAS was pleasant. Since I have an iMac I found that connecting to the Mac was a prolonged experience.
No matter what I did the NAS did not recognize my Mac machine. I even tried via Ethernet. Even the software that came in the box was of no help. Pushed to the corner I called up and explained my problem and they were quick enough to give me a solution. Now time machine works as well as the home storage manager. I realized that there is no need to use command prompt to get the drive working.

Comments about Iomega 1TB Home Media Network Hard Drive, Cloud Edition:
This NAS may have a long tongue twisting name but the features are straightforward and uncomplicated. Well anyway what's in a name, the Home media network hard drive is fast, well built, easy to use and allows remote access. I plugged the device into the mains and connected to the router and once I switched on the NAS ,setup was easy. There was very little interaction needed with the NAS device while setup was in progress. As soon as the drive was recognized I started to copy files.. Even my PS3 recognized the NAS as a dedicated UPnP device and I was able to move files in and out.
Comments about Iomega 1TB Home Media Network Hard Drive, Cloud Edition:
Transferring large amount of data to and fro from the home media network hard drive is a delight. Though again in depends on the network speed and mine work absolutely great. I was able to transfer my movie files consisting of around 600 GB at a good speed. Way better than the older external hard drives I was using. This latest addition has changed the way I look at entertainment.
Setting up the home media network hard drive is no big deal as customizing and configuring the device is much easier and does not consume much time as well. The smart phone application worked wonders as I was able to not just share files but also download files on my android.

I use this for my home network in conjunction with other hard drives for extra back-up and a printer server. This system is very easy to setup without needing many instructions. Thought about purchasing the Western Digital cloud network, but the ease of having torrent and facebook functionality made it that much more appealing. Hope this helps anyone looking to purchase the Iomega drive.

Unit works well and does everything I expected except for Mozy backups. You can't use Mozy's free service for backups of the NAS.

While buying an electronic gadget, design and performance comes first. So when I was looking out for a NAS drive I was particular that the design should be ergonomic and my networking needs be taken care of. My friend advised me to go for Iomega home media network drive, since I had a good opinion on Iomega and EMC technologies I bought the device.
The NAS device is a perfect home NAS drive that floored me with its powerful backup functions and down to earth content sharing procedures. To be on the safer side I replicated data onto MozyPro, a third party cloud storage services.

I use it for making a bootable backup of my hard drive.
Its easy to set up and seems to work really well when its connected directly to the IMac.
I had difficulty finding it on my Time Capsule network but I didn't expend a lot of effort before just connecting it directly.
Comments about Iomega 1TB Home Media Network Hard Drive, Cloud Edition:
The Iomega home media network hard drive is a starter NAS device and is best suited for my home. It is the most apt NAS server for a novice like me. I was able to connect my iPhone and download files easily. The Iomega personal cloud allows me to create my own personal cloud where I share my photos and videos stored on my home media network hard drive easily. It is very simple to operate. As far as security is concerned the personal cloud can be encrypted with 128 bit security which means extra protection for my data.

I bought this to use a NAS solution for media and file sharing within our home and to backup all of our computers to a one location. I added a 2TB external hard drive to expand the total storage of this device to almost 3TB of total storage. I am plannin on replicating to another Iomega NAS device to hold multiple copies.
I have had a little trouble with the cloud feature and accessing data from outside my home network but found this only when connected to my company VPN.
Definately a nice buy and great price.
Comments about Iomega 1TB Home Media Network Hard Drive, Cloud Edition:
My Iomega home media network hard drive is a quiet performer. The NAS device is a simple device that is must for home users if you want to centralize your media content. The device works absolutely quiet and does not radiate heat either. The file transfer speed also is amazing. I found the file transfer speed wirelessly great and I need not explain the transfer speed in a hard wired connectivity. It is the most suitable NAS device for home users and small office because of its affordability factor.
The home media network hard drive comes with nice extras like the EMC retrospect an automated backup software and Mozy home online backup services, a 2GB free online space.

Comments about Iomega 1TB Home Media Network Hard Drive, Cloud Edition:
When I started my search for a Mac compatible NAS drive my eyes fell on Iomega home media network hard drive. It promised to support Time Machine running for OS X 10.5 and later version. I immediately selected the NAS drive and it worked as recommended. Though the transfer speed was slow I realized that it was because of my wireless network speed. Another mistake I did was to have four machines on my network which may be the reason for its poor speed. But I found that streaming video files or connecting to my PlayStation 3 was rather faster which really made me happy.
If you want a home network storage hard drive that is Mac and PC compatible then this is the one.
Comments about Iomega 1TB Home Media Network Hard Drive, Cloud Edition:
Iomega is quick and delivers on time. The Iomega Home media network hard drive may sound complicated but is one of the sleekest looking NAS devices you can find in the market. The brushed metal gives it a professional appearance. I would call it a quick and quite device. The web management interface is easy to use. I was able to view all the controls on one window pane.
What more I was able to search for controls by keyword. Depending on my preference I was able to provide access permission to whoever I wanted. Similarly I could also deny access permission if I felt unwarranted for. File transfer on the cloud was impressive at 25.7 mbps.

I ordered this product online under a special price and I was really surprised to receive it in 3 business days with normal shipping:)
This is a great and asy to use product and highly recommended as a storage device and in terms of use though it is a different from normal external storage devices. The usability in home network and even the initial setting up was very easy. Its not heavy or bulky for a 1tb NAS device.
The only drawback is that if you are looking for a media server, this is not exactly the device which you would go for. However, considering the price and the usability, I would highly recommend it to anyone.
