I have the Panasonic HS-700 camcorder. While they give you a disk to "edit" the files on a PC, most computers have yet to come up to the 28Mbps transfer rate of the 1080/60P HS-700. While you can downshift to AVCHD cards, not many TVs have provision for that. BD is still not that popular. So - how to get your great pictures to something that can be seen on the ordinary/HD TV. Apparently the VW-BN01 is a great step forward in alleviating that problem. It will convert your HD/SD card files to a standard DVD-R disk, either in AVCHD format or standard NTSC, XP or SP. I chose XP for a Niagara Falls transfer and used a Verbatim DVD-R disk. This VW-BN01 has almost no instructions. Don't need much. Virtually anyone can do it. Plug the USB cable [provided] to your Panasonic rig and you are asked on the camera screen to choose the files you wish to transfer, what format, etc. Put in a disk, punch GO, and the camera gives the readout of the progress of the transfer. Took me about 47 minutes burning for about 20 minutes of HD video. What you have in NTSC is a fully finalized disk of the selecteds files all put together. Since these files are now in NTSC, virtually any video editing program can be employed to create a final release disk. Until computers get a lot more powerful and BD disk burners become the norm, this is an excellent and simple way for transferring HD information on your Panasonic camcorder to a universally readable disk format for now. Not much that I can say against the product - perhaps there is an "incompatibility" that I haven't run into yet - only a few hours on it so far. But right now this is by far the easiest way to get to an NTSC format - totally eliminates all those computer stall outs, glitches, and hangings up.

AS ANYBODY THAT HAS BOUGHT A PANASONIC HS700K HAS FIGURED OUT BY NOW, EVERYTHING ELSE YOU HAVE IS NOW OBSOLETE. THE 60P MADE WITH THIS CAMERA IS IMPOSSIBLE TO DUPLICATE WITHOUT THE CAMERA ITSELF, AND THAT INCLUDES PANASONICS DVD BURNER. IT DOES DO AVCHD WELL, AND THAT IS ALL WE HAVE FOR RIGHT NOW. IN 5 YEARS WE MAY HAVE A 60P DVD BURNER, BUT FOR NOW YOU ARE STUCK KEEPING IT ON THE CAMERA, OR YOUR COMPUTER. THIS MACHINE IS VERY EASY TO USE WITH PANASONIC CAMERAS, AND IS PRETTY SELF EXPLANATORY IN THE VIDEO DISPLAY OF THE CAMERA. THIS DOES NOT DO BLUE RAY DISKS, ONLY AVCHD OR STANDARD ONTO A DVD DISK. TOOK 3HOURS 45 MIN TO DL A 77 MINUTE 60P MOVIE,AND THE DVD WORKS WELL IN MOST DVD PLAYERS. HOWEVER I HAVE USED MY BRAND NEW HP TO MAKE THE SAME DVDS AND IT HAS PROBLEMS WITH DISKS SOMETIMES. FOR A CHEAP, FAIRLY QUICK , EASY TO USE MACHINE, IT IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED. ITS NOT I7 TECH YET, BUT FOR NOW, THIS IS ALL PANASONIC HAS MADE YET.IN CASE YOU ARE WONDERING, THEY ARE BEHIND AS ONLY AVCHD CAN BE ON A SD CARD ON THEIR TVS, NO 60P ON THEIR TVS EXCEPT THRU HDMI. IVE TRIED IT,DOESNT WORK. AND READ THE FINE PRINT IN THE SPECS BEFORE YOU BUY, NONE WILL DO IT. YOU HAVE TO USE THE CAMERA WITH A HDMI CABLE TO GET 60P ON THE TVS,SO DONT ERASE YOUR VIDEOS EVER. THIS BURNER IS PART OF PANASONICS PACKAGE YOU WILL NEED TO BUY WITH THE CAMCORDER. CAMCORDER, DVD BURNER,NEW COMPUTER,TV, AND BLUE RAY DISK PLAYER FOR AVCHD DISKS.IM NOT KIDDING. 60 P IS AWESOME, BUT VERY NEW FOR RIGHT NOW.

Comments about Panasonic VW-BN01 Portable DVD Burner:
After I purchased a Panasonic camcorder, I realized it was impossible for me to get what I was shooting onto my computers. Panasonic recommended this DVD burner as the right one for my camcorder, so I ordered it. It is SO simple to use, so very easy, and comes in very handy. I can now burn DVDs (in many formats), play them on my computers, TVs, or portable DVD player, and make copies for friends and relatives.

Comments about Panasonic VW-BN01 Portable DVD Burner:
Bought this to make back up of camera footage shot with a Panasonic SD-9 camera to DVD for future editing use. It was listed in the camera's instruction book as an accessory. Turns out my camera was not compatible with this burner. Cameras are listed on the Panasonic site IF you can find it. Ask B&H before ordering if it will work with your particular Panasonic camera. I've heard nothing but good about the burner, so if you use a Panasonic HD camera do some checking before ordering and you should find this item very useful.

We use it for our high school basketball teams, and you can burn the DVD right from the camera, works good except a 2 hour game takes 2 hours to burn the DVD, wish it went faster.

Comments about Panasonic VW-BN01 Portable DVD Burner:
I am an amateur home movie maker and photographer with primary interest in travel and family home videos. I purchased the VW-BN01 burner to use with my Panasonic HDC-HS900 HD camcorder. The burner works exactly as advertised: when connected to the camcorder, menus and controls are displayed on the camera viewscreen and on an outboard monitor, when connected to the camcorder. The camcorder remote operates the burner via on-screen menus. The burner makes perfect AVCHD copies on DVD-R or DVD-RAM disks. They play back perfectly at 1080 on my Blu-ray players. The burner creates a basic top menu on teh disk, similar to teh one on teh camcorder for selection of scenes to play back. The one negative is that the only input/output is USB, but since I am using the camcorder/burner in a dedicated set-up, it is no problem for me.

Comments about Panasonic VW-BN01 Portable DVD Burner:
I do a lot of videos and video movies on a iMac. This recorder works very well with my Panasonic HDC-TM900 video camera (which by the way is an amazing camera). Its easy to download the camera directly to the computer but with enough videos, storage space gets limited. With this you can download your camera to a DVD very quickly. When you are ready to use it on the Mac just put the disk in and ask iMovie to load it to the computer. Works great. It's a little more difficult to play the disk on a TV since you have to connect the disk recorder unit to the camera and then the camera to the TV. But it is a very inexpensive way of storing your videos. I would recommend this to a friend

Purchased this burner last week and so far am very satisfied with it. I just needed a simple way to copy my home movies from my Panasonic Camcorder using SD Card. Much simplier than using a PC which I tried and finally gave up on! With this burner you have few options to edit but it is exactly what I was looking for...just to copy the raw footage as I have always done since the 1980's! I have copied two SD cards so far and did not have the first glitch! Simply answer the several questions on the camera monitor and in short order you have a copy of the SD Card on a full size disk. Used the DVD-R disk. A reasonable price to get your "mess" done!

This burner is a great way to make quick copies of your video footage in BluRay and or standard format.
It makes the HD version faster than it does in standard format, and on DVD-R discs, but you have to play it back on a BluRay player.
You can't edit like you would in a video editing program, but for raw footage clips it's perfect.
I just hope I don't get a U61 error like I have with my other Panasonic DVD recorders. It's an error you can't fix.

Comments about Panasonic VW-BN01 Portable DVD Burner:
This unit does not work with my HDC-TM700 despite the fact that Panasonic claims they are compatible. One Panasonic rep told me it doesn't work because the VW-BN01 is strictly a European unit and won't work the the U.S., but that's BS, the unit comes with a US/Puerto Rico warranty only. Another Panasonic rep told me that it didn't work because I used R+ instead of R- DVDs (despite the fact that the manual says that it is compatible with R+), but that is BS also. I tried R- and it still doesn't work. This product has severe compatibility issues.

I couldn't get this burner to work with my Panasonic HDC-TM700 so I contacted Panasonic. They told me that it is only intended to work in European camcorder models and is not compatible with U.S. models.

I've only had this burner for a couple of weeks and so far am impressed with it. Simple as 1-2-3 to use, just connect to power and to camcorder, insert disc, follow the simple on screen instructions to burn. Burns HD quickly. Also does downconverting to standard. Would recommend this product to anyone.

Comments about Panasonic VW-BN01 Portable DVD Burner:
The Panasonic VW-BN01 works extremely well to make AVCHD discs (which play in HD like a Blu-ray) or regular recordable DVDs of all types. This unit hooks up directly to a compatible camcorder (mine is a HDC-SD90) and all required menus appear on the camcorders LCD screen. It is fast and easy to use. Although my Blu-ray player will take SD cards directly, burning an AVCHD disc is much more convenient and allows me to make copies for friends. The unit is larger than the earlier Panasonic DVD Burners, but is very reliable and compatible with many Panasonic Camcorders (compatibility information is on the Panasonic website.
The unit has a large power adapter in addition to a removable power cord, and comes with all required cables. This unit is highly recommended as a desirable accessory to make high definition AVCHD DVDs of your camcorder videos.
