VHS to DVD 5.0 Deluxe from Honest Technology is not only the perfect bridge between the analog world of VHS, LPs, or cassettes and today's digital media. With its easy, step-by-step method for turning your old home videos into DVDs or your records into CDs, the VHS to DVD 5.0 Deluxe can also directly copy footage from your HDV/DV or analog camcorder onto a Blu-ray disc for high-definition viewing. You can even edit out bad footage and add transitions and effects along the way.
At the center of this process is the included VIDBOX, which requires only a USB 2.0 cable to power it up, making it ideal for use with laptop computers. Just connect it to your VCR, camcorder or turntable via S-Video or included RCA cable, then output to your computer with a USB cable (also provided). The included software, which now lets you add background music and motion to DVD/Blu-ray menus, will take you from there.
Whether you want to burn to disc, export to YouTube, or add media to your iPod or iPad, the VHS to DVD Deluxe 5.0 is the all-in-one solution for upgrading your analog memories and music into the digital here and now.
Note! This product is compatible with Windows systems only.

I bought this a while ago because of the B&H price and great online reviews. I have a lot of old VHS tapes and audio cassettes I wanted to put on DVD and CD. I am primarily a photographer, but also work on indie films. One film we were working had scenes reshot in RI that were going to be mailed to FL. Instead of mailing tapes I was able to create mpg files directly from the Canon XL1, load them on a flash drive and mail that. Saved a great deal of time and effort for the editor. And I also used the Audio function to create CDs and files from cassettes. The wma files I can edit and reburn. Just an all around great tool.

Comments about Honest Technology VHS to DVD 5.0 Deluxe:
I've only had my VHS to DVD converter box box a week, but already we've converted three VHS videos and two cassette tapes. We've been impressed with how easy it is use and the quality of the end product, even from the old cassette recordings. There are probably lots of things we can do with the softwre, but so far we've just done the very basic transfer and save. My only negative comment so far is that the software provided to create the DVD is limited in what you can do with it, so we took the file created by the conversion, transferred it to the iMac, converted it into a format that could be edited in iMovie and did our final editing and DVD creation there. Are very pleased with the end product and looking forward to converting all of our old VHS tapes.

Using this to transfer some familyt pieces off Beta & VHS tapes from mid to late 80's. Loved the fact that you can record from old audio.

Comments about Honest Technology VHS to DVD 5.0 Deluxe:
My rating is based on the product's performance relative to its promise.
I have converted home movie video from VHS tapes, using the "Advanced Mode." I have now undertaken the conversion of a large number of camcorder tapes, again with the "Advanced Mode." I especially like the ability to capture the video in approximate chapters that I can save for later finer editing of selections for the production of finished DVDs. I have experimented with this approach and, as a first time user of any movie video software, produced a very pleasing finished DVD which performed perfectly on a separate DVD player, as well as on the computer I used to make it.
So far, the only improvement to the product that I could suggest would be a way to merge the edits into a chapter without having to play through the entire segments again. This duplicates video capture time (although the merging, once started, can be done unattended).

Good program, needs the title/credit pages to be longer. 2 seconds not long enough to read more than a couple of lines.

Easy mode is definately easy and self explanatory but the advanced mode doesn't have enough instructions. a video tutorial online would help.

Comments about Honest Technology VHS to DVD 5.0 Deluxe:
This was very easy to set up and got started right away. I was having a little trouble at first because when I did my first one, it didn't turn out. I then kept on trying and got it to work. I did the easy one because the more advanced one you need DVDs that are larger and can hold more. So, the easy one works good enough.

Comments about Honest Technology VHS to DVD 5.0 Deluxe:
I have used the product only to convert VHS tapes to digital. The hardware seems fine and is easy to connect but the software is far from intuitive. I had to reread parts of the manual several times to be able to make a standard DVD.

This program and its hardware are good for both novice and advanced users. It has a simple setup with both composite d S-Video connections ad a simple one step process and advanced editing software. This is the best bang for your buck and truly makes it possible to transfer any older media type. I have also used the editing software to construct final movies using digital clips already downloaded from my digital camcorder. for the money, I found nothing better than this program.
