I like this camera because on how much it is like the HVX 200. The zoom is a little smaller. I shoot weddings and it is easy to do quick shots as well as detailed shots.

This is a wonderful camera with tons of features. The image stabilizer works great. Be careful of purchasing from unknowns who aren't BBB certified. There are a lot of companies selling Gray Market HPX175's as HPX170's. This product is an honest AG-HPX170J!B&H has great customer service and is certified by the Better Business Bureau...I would highly recommend purchasing from this company. One note: the P2 (mfx) files were a little difficult to work with but I found that Adobe Professional Premium CS5.5 will breeze through them...in Windows.

I use it/will use it on a daily basis, I have waited a long while to get the camera and I am happier then ever, I will use it for numerous things including live sports events :)
I love most things about it, the fact that you can stream directly to me laptop live is awesome, though you need a HD-SDI Express Card however I have one at my disposal. the thing I least like about it is the minimal zoom however its not the end of the world

I have used Panasonic cameras for a number of years, and this model builds upon the best of previous models. Handling is intuitive, though the controls this model offers are very comprehensive. For critical shooting you will need an external monitor, as with most camcorders. This is my first tapeless camcorder, and I have been very pleased with the workflow. I also use the Panasonic unit with SSD for transferring video files in the field without bothering with a laptop, and that works very well.

Overall well designed, well constructed and versatile, with excellent image and sound quality.

I have been using this camera since it was issued and it is exceptional for legal video applications. In addition to recording high quality video to P2 cards (two 64 GB P2 cards can record more than 9 hours of SD video), this camera downstreams a clean date/time stamp via the IEEE 1394 port. This permits you to capture to a fast media drive using a laptop and capture software such as Adobe On Location, or a FireStore (or both, using a DV repeater). I have used this camera in a variety of applications from legal video to event video and corporate video productions with outstanding results. This camera is an outstanding value for these applications. If you want even more firepower you can upgrade to the AG-HPX250, which is a few $ thousand more. While the low light capabilities of the HPX170 is an improvement over the HVX200 it could be better. Still, I give this camera a high rating for its consistently outstanding performance as a legal video, event and documentary camera.

I upgraded to the AG-HPX170 this year after shooting for two years with the HVX-200. The 170 is a wonderful camera and I don't miss the mini-dv tape capacity at all. The biggest improvement is the low-light performance. I no longer worry about having to blast subjects with light. The new focus assistant button now stays on as long as you need it to - another nice improvement.

I purchased my 170 in December 2010 and have used it on shoots in Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, often in harsh, rugged settings. The P2 Card system never fails.

If the AG-HPX170 had an interchangeable lens capability, I would be in heaven. Until then, I'll continue to use this reliable, rugged production tool as my main workhorse camera.

I'm a filmmaker who started off making short, cinematic pieces with this very camera. The fixed ISO 500 gives an incredible amount of unwanted noise and I can only shoot in 720x1280 if I want to keep it progressive. Needless to say, not ideal for cinema. However, I LOVE this camera's versatility when doing documentary shoots. The on-board mic gives decent sound as well.

I use this camera for teaching, weddings, and recording live events. I previous had Panasonic AG-HVX200 and needed a second camera. AG-HPX170 does better in low light and weighs a lot less. Its much easier to use hand held. I wish it had a longer zoom like 18x or 20x.

Went from the HVX-200 to the 170. Very similar, but a few nice features like; better focus assist, delete last clip and faster lens. HD-SDI out is a plus and the headphone jack works all the time. Lighter in weight than the 200. P2 works great with AVID. Loved the 200's picture and the 170 is just as nice. My only complaint is that parts of the camera are cheaper than the 200. The P2 door feels like it could break at any moment. Decided on the 170 over the FS-100 because of P2.

Works well in low light... sd scene file programmable for slo-motion and fast-motion footage tweaking ability is nice. User friendly for PC with USB and/or locking firewire (nice). SDI out and composite, very nice overall... like almost everything about this camera. Video format is MFX which can be used with high-end-editors like AVID and CS5. For Vegas Pro users, there is a 3rd party codec download that works nicely; and for pocket pinchers, this inconvenience can be easily overcome with DVFilm Maker ($45.00) -which converts MFX to MPG for more manageable prosumer editing. Converts 1.5 GB per minute; so, get a few external tet-and-a-halfs or more to help with the storage. Camera is very light, however, fairly sturdy -would not necessarily recommend using as a football, but pretty sure it can take a few dings here and there.

External XLR's take a minute to figure out and though the vol setting knobs are shielded (nice), wheel dials could have been a bit bigger -definitely not for fat-finger-usage. Menu-After-Menu allows for a week or so of reading if you're migrating from, say, Canon -as is common with any new vendor.

Overall good camera!!!
