The Brother HL-2220 Compact Personal B/W Laser Printer is a budget-friendly printer that stays that way throughout its life cycle. Thanks to the HD-2220's high-yield toner cartridge and the ability to use Toner Save mode, you can ensure that the cost of operating a printer doesn't get out-of-hand.
More than a money-saver, the HL-2220 is also an efficient printer. Get your B/W prints at a speed of 21 pages-per-minute. Brother doesn't achieve that speed by producing low quality documents either, the HL-2220 features a print resolution of 2400 x 600 dpi - providing you with clean, crisp text and graphics.
Other benefits of the HL-2220 include a 250 sheet paper handling tray and the option to manually feed single sheets into the machine. In addition, the printer's compact footprint means that even in confined areas the HL-2220 isn't an imposition on anyone's space.

The printer worked great as soon as I figured out that the GO button on the top of printer was not the power switch... Instructions should be simpler and made simpler and more direct... The part on the power switch is very small compared to all the other details in the instructions... Perhaps showing a photo large enough to see with a arrow pointing to the power switch... I thought I did not down load the DVD provided correctly... I had to call the MFG to find out where that the power switch is not the Go Button on top of the printer... A lot of time needed to get running...

Comments about Brother HL-2220 Compact Personal B/W Laser Printer:
After 6+ years my HP laser printer finally began to die, so after looking through what was available I chose the HL-2220 for the compact size and excellent price. After a couple weeks zero problems on 4 different Apples in the house. Great for normal document printing and even some decent results with photos.

I have to turn this off between printing jobs because it is so darn noisy. It also isn't compact. It works and that is about it.

I'm a writer, need to make multiple copies of scripts, so black and white is all I need. laser toner is way cheaper than ink. This is quick 21ppm, and will do 300 dpi (for what I need) or 600 or even 2400 for B&W pics. & Works with the imac, others don't.

Works just like the 8-year old Brother HL-5040 that it replaces. I did not even look at the instruction manual. Have it working on both a Mac and a PC.

[...] I had it out of the box, hooked up to my Air Port Extreme base station in less than 15 min. After installing the drivers from the cd, I was able to print from my two networked Macs and wirelessly from my two laptops.Just prints and no more worry about ink jet cartridges. I find the printer very quiet.
