The 223s from dbx is a dual channel, stereo 2-way or mono 3-way crossover. A crossover is essential for efficient PA operation because it filters the full band input signal into specific frequencies that match a speaker's optimum frequency-reproduction range. This leaves the amplifier free to use its full power on the usable signal, eliminating distortion and delivering clear sound.
The unit features Linkwitz-Riley 24dB per octave filters, independent output gain controls for level matching, output phase inversion, 40Hz low cut filter, and optional mono summing of the low frequency (subwoofer) output. Quality components and meticulous attention to detail offers exceptional sound and rugged reliability, while exuding great precision from the solid "click" controls to the high quality XLR inputs and outputs.

Comments about dbx 223xs - Crossover (XLR):
This is a well-built and reliable crossover. I've used many DBX products over the years and that can be said of all of their products. It performs very well and is very clean; introducing no discernable noise in a live situation.
The one thing that I don't understand is why DBX offers different versions for XLR and TRS. It puzzles me because connectors are inexpensive as are SMT resistors, caps, etc. and they could have had both on the same main board. This would have offered the user the options of XLR or TRS inputs and XLR or TRS outputs. It would have cost them about $1.50 difference in componentry to have one board that offers both. This is puzzling to me. I think some competitors offer one products with both connector types.
Other than that, I love it.
