Sony CDP-CE500 5 Disc CD Changer
The Sony CDP-CE500 5 Disc CD Changer is a 5-disc player that supports several disc and file formats for versatile use and is packaged in a sleek black design. The CDP-CE500 supports CD as well as CD-R and CD-RW so you can play personalized music mixes. It also supports playback of MP3, WMA and AAC files to accommodate your whole music collection.
A front-panel USB port accommodates a USB storage device, making it conveniently accessible to play files from a flash drive. In addition to playing music files from this storage device, you can record music from a disc to USB storage using the CD SYNC function. It will record as an MP3 file and you can also transfer a track or file that is being played on the changer.
The unit comes with a fully functional remote which allows you to program the sequence of up to 32 tracks or files, and allows you to select which disc to play or shuffle songs randomly. Featuring an elegant design, this multifunctional player lets you enjoy your favorite music discs and files and even record to USB or erase audio files or folders to free up space. I bought this CD changer to replace another that I used for 22 years after I accidentally zapped the old CD player with a jolt of static electricity that fried some of its electronics. I have a home theater system with all Sony components, so I didn't think that I would go wrong buying this Sony unit for my home audio system. So far it's been a wise choice.
I love that this is a five disc changer, compared to my old single disc unit. Also, the new unit's digital display shows a lot more information than I got from the old unit.
The sound that this Sony changer sends to my receiver/amplifier is much cleaner and crisper than what I was getting from the old CD player, probably because of advances made in laser optics, microprocessors, and digital to analog converters over the past 22 years.
This CD player also plays music that's stored on USB devices. It worked perfectly with songs that I have on a USB flash drive, but it didn't support my first generation iPod shuffle or my wife's much newer iPod shuffle. When playing songs from my flash drive, the display can be cycled to show the name of the song, the name of the group, and the name of the album. When playing CDs, the display doesn't show any of this information, but it does show elapsed time for the song, remaining time for the song, and remaining time for the entire album.
I don't want to bore you with features and specifications that you can read about in the product literature. I just want to say that all of the described features work very well.

Had it connected to my Yamaha Aventage and playing in about 10 minutes very intuitive loading and playing remote. Excellent sound quality output on everthing from rock to classical. Quiet disc changes though I have heard a couple of others that are quieter.

The CDP-CE500 Sony is a 5 discCD player/changer. It is very easy to set up and use and has incredible sound reproduction.
The features that set it apart are:
1. Optical audio output. I compared the standard left right RCA jack audio plugs to the optical. There is no doubt that the sound quality is better from the optical.
2. The other really nice feature is that you can copy your CD's onto a standard computer USB thumb drive and then use the thumb drive to play them back. With even a small 2GB thumb drive, you can put hundreds of tunes on the drive and the sound reproduction is fantastic.
I don't have even a single complaint with it and would recommend it to anyone.

Being technically challenged, i had to get a friend to connect the equipment to my amplifier. But the CD player is easy to use and great that you can load 5 cd's at one time for continious listening!!! i would highly recommend product

I have just gotten this model but if is anything like the last model I won't be dissapointed. The last model was stolen but I used it 10hrs a day as I don't watch much TV and like to listen to the background on my upper level stereo system.

Works as advertised so far. I bought this for my wife since she still loves her CDs. I searched long and hard to find a player with few failures since I have had terrible luck with CD players. Unfortunately it seems that all CD players have a pretty high failure rate so I opted for the 2-year protection plan for $20. I don't usually go for those, but if this thing goes out I don't want any hassles. Anyway, the wife used it extensively over Christmas loading all 5 slots and playing in disc shuffle mode. She did notice that the disc transitions are pretty loud, but the unit performed well otherwise. We have not tested the USB flash drive feature.

This Sony CD player is amazing! I've been around for a while and seen a lot of these things but this one is really great. It has a great playback feature just in it's simple ability to play CDs, but then just by putting a flash-drive into the USB port you have hours of your favorite music for your entertainment. Still learning about the unit, but thus far - it's everything I need and more!

Our new Sony 5-disc changer does the job and then some. We replaced a similar unit purchased about 25 years ago. This one has some extra features conforming to today's technology. I'm electronically challenged, so having a unit that is easy to operate is a blessing for me! When I listened to it for the first time I was absolutely thrilled! It makes a little bit of a noise changing from one cd to the next, but nothing like the other changer that I had. Nice product. It allows me to play my "old school" CD's but it's also great having the USB option. The only oddity is that it won't play from my iphone - no problem, though, we just load it onto a thumb drive. Otherwise we love it.
