I bought this scanner after I realized how paperful I was and how paperless I wanted to be..Actually just wanted to better organize myself and my business. For a person of limited computer talent and know how, this scanner has really made easy work of my cluttered desk space. Not to mention the ease and accuracy of the scansnap file manager. I also had to call customer service for a small bit of help on the set up and they were excellent and professional.

Actually, S1100 was bought after me disappointed with another one (DocuPen X50). The "strong sides" of ScanSnap S1100 became more visible, because of contrast with failed device of Planon Systems.
Needless to say that S1100 is well done, very fast with his feed-in and scanning. The one I have to mark specially: bundled software package will meet most users requirements - S1100 can scan into file (JPEG) and PDF. Additionally, if needed, you can enable an option to scan into searchable PDF or direct recognized material into Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
Good "standard" possibilities are extended with scanning to GoogleDocs, Microsoft Sharepoint, Evernote, Salesforce Chatter or SugarSync, for those who is familiar with this services.
My goal was a image scan and PDF/searchable PDF, I'm excited with this device, all I scaned was perfectly saved and recognized. That's great.
Connection is easy and comes with no problems, just one USB-cable - that's all. But don't forget to install drivers first (comes on CD-ROM), all other steps your computer will do automatically.
At first sight, there isn't too clear how to clean internal parts of this unit, but with easy lift-up the main ramp you gain access to the glass surfaces, that protect light source and sensors. If you scan hardly or feed-in some dirty paper sheets, just clean the glass inside, using a clothes with a few drops of regular detergent for glass.
I recommend FUJITSU ScanSnap S1100 to anybody who is travelling and need a hand scanner on the way, or even at home - if you haven't enough space to place a big one.

I'm using it with a macbook air for a week now and I love it!
It works just like it has, quick and easy.
Scans are sharp and clear and it's driver is a smooth.
It'll save me hours of peace of mind.
I highly recommend to buy it's case 'cos it fits perfect and protect your investment.
Also recommend to buy a smaller cable 'cos the supplied one is good but is a little longer, something about 30cm is enough in my case.

The hardest part of setting up this fast and easy scanner was opening the packaging. The Software bundle was easily installed and the scanner is fast, image quality is super and I could not be more pleased. I use this for all of my scanning needs in my home based office.

I'm a surveyor for hospitals. I measure entire hospital buildings, coding the square foot, floor surfaces, and plumbing fixtures for a data base that manages housekeeping details. In the past I would have 20 to 25 pages of coding daily that would have to be faxed using substandard fax machines most of the time. I got my ScanSnap S1100 to be able to do the "finish work" from my room. I couldn't be happier with it. It's easy to use, very reliable, and most of all, NO paper is involved and I can just send off my pages daily in a simple email.
The only thing I would change would be the ability to "edit" pages after multiple scans are finished.
It's definitely a product I can depend on and has made my job more efficient.
