Imagine getting a true 5.1 channel home theater system with the speakers and a Blu-ray player included.
Far from being imaginary, the Samsung HT-D5500 Blu-ray Home Theater System is a real-world portal to the highest definition available and full-immersion surround sound at a surprisingly affordable price. Just add a high definition TV and some Blu-ray discs or DVDs and you'll have a complete private cinema that will provide you with many hours of viewing and listening pleasure. In addition to 720p, 1080i and 1080p high definition resolutions the HT-D5500 can upscale all of your current DVDs from 480i to 480p; resulting in a picture so good some of your friends may assume they're watching Blu-ray discs. And with one of your two HDMI ports, signals stay in pure digital form from your HT-D5500 to your HDTV.
Samsung certainly didn't cut any corners to make the HT-D5500 affordable. Its built-in amplifier and 5.1 speakers pump out 1000W of audio surround sound power. Your Blu-ray discs, DVDs and CDs will not only look great, they'll sound great too. One reason they'll sound so good is your HT-D5500 Crystal Amp Plus. It uses two internal signal filters to remove sound distortion and noise to provide you with crystal clear sound. That crystal clear sound can be enhanced by audio processors from Dolby and DTS. Most DVDs and Blu-ray discs today have sound tracks encoded in two or more of them. You can decide for yourself which ones you like best.
Another reason the HT-D5500 sounds so good is ASC. (Automatic Sound Calibration). Like more-expensive home theaters, this one can "fingerprint" your listening environment. No two rooms are alike. Curtains, chairs, lamps and other features of a room absorb and reflect sound in a crazy-quilt manner. Just place the included microphone at your listening position. Your HT-D5500 tunes the output of each speaker so the net result is that your room will sound more like an ideal audio studio. If you change the room arrangement or move the unit to another room altogether you can repeat the process in a snap. With the included wireless" rear speakers, you can even avoid running a tangle of wires from the receiver to your rear speakers.
On top of all these great features what more could you want? More than a mere home theater, your Samsung HT-D5500 is your private entertainment empire.

Comments about Samsung HT-D5500 Blu-ray Home Theater System:
Great system, B&H offered an unbeatable price a few months back and I'm happy I jumped on it. The sound is crisp and there's more than enough bass for this 12x12 room plus there is an audio option for super-bass and about a dozen other sound flavors = concert hall, church, 3D, movie, etc and if none of those work for you there is an equalizer that you can set manually to accommodate your room. THe FM tuner has fantastic reception and sound, cable box is routed thru BR (via TosLink cable)so sporting events, HBO et al sound phenomenal, my old CDs sound better than ever with the 3D sound added. BluRay movies look phenomenal and I cannot imagine them being anymore vivid while HD movies, tv shows, regular dvd's are not far behind quality-wise. The hdtv I use is a samsung now a few years old and it matches up nicely of course. Watching in Movie mode vs. Sports is a nice option as well. The only flaw that I have come across is that while watching a movie sometimes the screen flashes pink for a flash second but does not interrupt flow of movie.
It will play just about any movie file I have on disk,pc, or external HD but oddly not all from all sources so I have to shuffle the movies to the source that will play them. The sound and resolution is widely varied based on quality of file but at least 90% will play, of course the larger movie files look better than the lesser and many of those upconvert to dvd quality.
You can watch Netflix, Blockbuster, HuLu etc via Samsung Apps/Smart Hub plus there are tons of games, videos(but not major movies), live streaming news, youtube and assrtd apps that I have not really dug into yet. I just viewed a YuTube clip that was on the local news last night and the resolution looked amazing considering it was shot by someones cellphone.
On 1 1-100 scale I'll give this a 93 but really for the price I paid it should be 99. This sounds as good as the Bose system, IMHO, that a relative has and I'm an old Bose fan from wayback. There is no comparison to the inferior system I had previously so I won't bother. BIG recommend!

Comments about Samsung HT-D5500 Blu-ray Home Theater System:
Blue ray and 3-D loads fast and the quality is great. The surround sound would not be powerful enough for a huge room but is perfect for an average living room or bed room. If you have a Samsung TV you can use one remote to control them both and I can even use my directv remote to control the volume. Overall a very solid system and with B&H pricing you can't go wrong.

Comments about Samsung HT-D5500 Blu-ray Home Theater System:
We typically watch blu-rays/DVDs, stream Netflix and Pandora from a WD Media player. We wanted 5.1 sound without running all the speaker wires to the back channels. This system fits perfectly with our Samsung 650 TV and connected immediately with the SWA-5000 wireless rear receiver. B&H [...] had excellent prices. Petite speakers provide huge sound. What an improvement over tv speakers! Optical output from TV to home theatre provides 7.1 virtual surround sound from other HDMI devices. Picture quality is superior to our older Samsung Blu-ray; DVDs look better too.Minor complaints...the remote should be fully backlit not just the TV/Home Theater buttons. Netflix implementation doesn't support subtitles or Dolby 5.1 like the Netflix implementation on the WD TV Live Plus. Maybe I'm missing something, but also haven't been able to setup the time and date; but at least I've got the time zone.Still learning the features and want to configure my Logitech Harmony remote to support the Home Theater.Very pleased with this system. Recommend it highly to anyone looking for a modest 5.1 system who doesn't want to run the extra wires for the rear channels.

Comments about Samsung HT-D5500 Blu-ray Home Theater System:
I bought this item to have things louder when watching a Blue-ray, but the max volume on this 1000-watt system isn't much louder than my TV. The sound is great and the blue-ray player apps are great. Didn't come with the wireless speaker option, that is an additional $100, but worth it I am sure.Setup was a breeze....color coordinated speaker wires. Netflix sound was lower than actual Blue-Ray discs...Vudu was the same so I assume that all the internet apps aren't as loud.
