Comments about Denon DBP-2012UDCI Universal Blu-ray Disc Player (Black):
Things happen and they did with my copy of this well touted Universal Blu-ray player. I purchased this player after reading many positive reviews and confirming the unit has an Audio Coaxial Digital Out. I need that particular audio out source to access my sound system VIA the coaxial digital input of my DAC.
The Coaxial Digital Audio Out never worked from the beginning. The only source that played through this audio out was an Audio CD. No sound at all when I tried to play an SACD. Horrible scratching and/or harsh ticking when the source was a video DVD or Blu-ray. The only way audio worked was through the Denon HDMI out to the HDMI input of my plasma TV.
With regard to the video quality of the DVD and Blu-ray player on this particular unit I'm not entirely sure how well it was working. What I mean by this comment is when I switched the input source on my TV from satellite to Blu-ray the entire screen was less bright with less contrast. I had to make adjustments to the TV in the Picture Settings to regain brightness and contrast. It was okay after the adjustment and perhaps this is normal. I'll find out when my new unit arrives and no it is not another Denon DBP-2012 UDCI.
As usual B&H is there to help make things right. Thanks!
