The Western Digital 2TB WD2002FAEX Caviar Black SATA Hard Drive (OEM), with high-performance dual actuator technology provides an optimum storage solution for a fully-loaded PC or a maxed out gaming machine. The primary actuator offers coarse displacement using conventional electromagnetic actuator principles and the secondary actuator uses a piezoelectric motor to fine tune the head positioning to a higher degree of accuracy.
A featured motor shaft on both ends minimizes the system-induced vibration and stabilizes platters for accurate tracking, during read and write operations. The NoTouch Ramp Load technology ensures that the recording head never touches the disk media, providing enhanced drive protection in transit. With 64 MB cache, the Caviar Black SATA Hard Drive ensures faster data transactions by reducing the time required for data transactions.

We use it for our MAC editing systems and the 6 GB interface with double speed blows all the other drives out of the water.

I've purchased a few of these and am generally satisfied with them but this particular unit was DOA and RMA'd back to Western Digital.

Comments about Western Digital 2TB WD2002FAEX Caviar Black SATA Hard Drive (OEM):
I've been running this drive about two weeks now. It works fine, speed seems about the same as the 640G SATA drive I replaced. Only complaint is that it's noisy.
Heads up!!! If you use WDs Acronis software to transfer pgms and data to the new drive using the CLONE option, make sure you BACKUP data first! I lost 64k photos (240G) in the process. Luckily I backed them up to another external disk first. Otherwise it would have been five years of photography down the drain, because it destroyed the photos on the original disk as well. All the programs and file structures I've run so far have been fine, just data loss.

I am using this drive in my "Drobo" for added capacity, replacing one of the 500GB drives.

My 3 year old drive was too slow so I bought this one. Now windows loads up in 4 seconds where before I had to wait minutes. Easy to install and western digital's website has the software to clone your old drive, so no need to reinstall windows.

Comments about Western Digital 2TB WD2002FAEX Caviar Black SATA Hard Drive (OEM):
I replaced a failing Velociraptor with this drive. For about the same price as a 300GB Veliciraptor, I have an additional 1562GB of storage, and with the 6GB/sec transfer, the performance is nearly the same. The system boots quickly and programs load fast. For a reasonably priced drive with high performance, I would highly recommend this drive.

Comments about Western Digital 2TB WD2002FAEX Caviar Black SATA Hard Drive (OEM):
I gave this product 5 stars because it was easy to install, and western digital's website was easy to navigate, find installation instructions and to d/l drivers and d/l "acronis true image" to clone my old drive. I was a little disappointed at first when this drive was delivered. It was delivered on time but all I got was a hard drive and the box it came in. No manual, driver cd or warrenty card. For the price a sata cable would have been nice. I guess I was lucky to get this drive for [$] it's now about $40 more. I tested this drive after installation and I'm getting 135 mb/s read and write speed which is about double of what my 3 year old western digital drive could do. I did notice this drive does make more noise than my old one did.

Needed two reliable drives, went with the WD Black 2 TB drives. ONe of the first two was DOA, B&H replaced it quickly with one that worked fine. Most likely killed in shipment. The drives are fast and exceptionally quiet. I'm using them as drives in external enclosures.

Read somewhere the performance was better than the Velociraptors. So decided to go with this, plus more bang for buck. HDTune Benchmarks weren't that much different. Not like with my SSD. But since I don't really put it through the works and more for backup, can't compare. What I do know is I'm completely satisfied so far. It is a little noisier than my other drives. But neglible.

Use for video files for use in FCP editing. Have another one and it has been reliable, generally quiet. Sometimes a little slow to start when it's been idle.

bought this drive because of its 7200 rpm and large buffer. I installed it myself with very little trouble. it has performed perfectly, so far. I only gave it 4 stars because of the short time I have had the hard drive.
