The B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer SC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.
A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention. This filter is vacuum coated with 1 layer of anti-reflection coating per side to help prevent internal ghosting and reflections as well as improve light transmission.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer SC Filter:
I use this polarizing filter for outdoor scenic shots to give definition to the sky and also reduce glare from rivers and lakes. This filter does a great job of enhancing the color, clarity, and depth. It is also great for architectural photography in removing sun glare from windows and bright structural elements.

I like it!!!!! Awsome!!!! Make a huge different.
Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer SC Filter:
It's built well, but the single coating I think just up and bit me. Just started using it and already there's a scratch. It might be me, but something tells me if it was multi-coated the scratch wouldn't be there. Also, can't they make these things a little thinner without going the ultra-slim mount where you can't put the lens cap on,.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer SC Filter:
The quality is excellent as for all the B+W filters but I don't know if it is because of a single coat but the polarizing effect is not very pronounced.

So incredibly smoother than other filters I've used. Definitely worth the extra money.

Comments about B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer SC Filter:
I've only used one other brand of polarizer which was a tiffen slim mount. The B+W works much better. The B+W is very easy to rotate and is very smooth through out the rotation. Another advantage of the B+W is it is threaded and allows for the original lens cap to be used with the polarizer attached to the lens. The pictures have great color and are polarized to my expectations. I would highly recommend this polarizer for the cost.
