The 2TB DriveStation Duo USB 3.0 Hard Drive RAID Array from Buffalo is a data-safe, high performance storage solution, designed for a variety of applications. This unit comes outfitted with two 1TB hard drives that can operate independently of one another in a "JBOD" configuration or together in a RAID 0 or RAID 1 array. If you want faster throughput for accessing your data, configure the array as a RAID 0, and if you want extra redundancy for more securely storing your data, go with RAID 1. So as to ensure fast data access and transfer speeds at up to 5Gb/s, this unit features a USB 3.0 port for connecting to your server or computer. That USB connection is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 as well. While the drive will work with nearly all PC and Mac computers, it is formatted in FAT32 so that you can immediately start using it with your Windows PC. In addition to the hard drive RAID array, you'll receive the TurboPC Utility software, Buffalo Tools software suite, and the NovaBACKUP Business Essentials software.* All told, the 2TB DriveStation Duo USB 3.0 Hard Drive RAID Array is an exceptional storage solution for small servers, creative professionals, offices, and serious consumers.

Comments about Buffalo 2TB DriveStation Duo USB 3.0 Hard Drive RAID Array:

I was outgrowing my 1 TB external single drives, and it was about time to separate my work projects from my personal. The item arrived quickly, and sported the lovely new electronic smell.

Install was a breeze; as I don't have the need for RAID at the moment, I converted the drives quickly to be independent of each other, with one drive making multiple backups of the other.

My system doesn't support USB 3.0, so I can't comment on the speed. But I can say USB 2.0 speeds are similar to other external drives, averaging around 20-25 MB/sec, according to the disc tests I ran.

4 months later the drive bay still runs like a charm. It is very quiet, located about 4 feet away from ear shot, and can only be heard when booting up the desktop as the drives spin up.

This won't win you any awards for speed if you're doing heavy video processing. For now, it serves my purpose as a drive for my photography business, but I fear as the cameras keep increasing in MP sizes, I may need to update the desktop to either USB 3.0 or something similar, as USB 2.0 is starting to show its age (rendering full size previews of thousands of images can take a long time)!

The instructions and software included make it easy to set up. I like it because it is USB 3.0 and is not very large - so it fits nicely on a shelf.
