If you're looking for an interactive entertainer, the Sony BDP-S780 3D Blu-ray Disc Player has you covered. From 3D entertainment in stunning HD to Skype video capabilities and online streaming, this disc player can keep you connected and entertained.
Enjoy a cinema-like 3D experience in your own home just by adding a few Blu-ray 3D discs and the necessary 3D accessories. If you don't have any 3D content, don't worry. This disc player can upconvert your 2D content to simulated 3D so you can still enjoy realistic, wraparound visuals.
But even before popping in a DVD or Blu-ray disc, you can take advantage of built-in Wi-Fi by connecting to your home network connection to access online streaming and BD Live. BRAVIA internet apps like Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, and HuluPlus can widen your options and BD Live gives you access to interactive extras. This disc player also has built-in I/P noise reduction, so you can enjoy crisp, clear images even from internet entertainment.
Stay connected to friends and family through Skype, because now you can see them in real-time on your HDTV screen thanks to the BDP-S780. You can also command your entertainment from your mobile device by downloading the free Remote Media app to your iPhone, iPad or compatible Android phone. That means in between taking phone calls and texting you can use your phone as a versatile system remote to control your entertainment from the couch.
With support for advanced audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, you can create detailed, immersive audio that's just as compelling as the video produced by this disc player. These formats are found on many Blu-ray and DVD discs, and allow for lossless multi-channel audio. So if you have a surround sound setup, this player can decode these formats to give you high fidelity sound to complete your home theater experience.
Party Streaming mode makes it possible to sync up speakers in multiple rooms so you can enjoy homewide audio. You can also connect a USB-enabled device to enjoy photos, music and video files via one of the USB ports. All of these entertainment features are packed into a slim chassis, standing at just about 2 inches tall and offering a sleek black finish to blend with any home theater setup.

Comments about Sony BDP-S780 3D Blu-ray Disc Player:
I use the DDP-S780 mostly for watching Blu-Rays, but there are a whole lot of different things you can use it for. Coupled with a sony HD webcam, you can skype with your relatives from the comfort of your living room.
There is also netflix that you have direct access to with a single press of a button.
There is also the convenient "home" button which will take you to the main menu, which will make PlayStation 3 users feel right at home.
Great purchase, I reccomend it completely. There is also a 3D feature, that I havent used yet, since I only own a 2D television.

Comments about Sony BDP-S780 3D Blu-ray Disc Player:
Typical Sony quality. The built-in network features are great, just ensure you either have it hardwired via an ethernet line, or a modern hi-speed wireless router. Otherwise, expect choppy streaming from on-line services.

Comments about Sony BDP-S780 3D Blu-ray Disc Player:
This Blu-ray disc player is a welcome upgrade from my past Sony player. It is feature rich which is what attracted me to this product, in particular I was most interested in the new addition of Skype video calling by adding the HD Camera (CMUBR100). The device also ships with built-in wireless eliminating the need to purchase an adaptor which would take up space within my entertainment unit. Setup was very quick and easy, the unit looks great it has a nice glossy finish. The BDP-S780 loads faster than my old unit, you can even set it for fast loading, however, this keeps the fan running and can become bothersome in a small quiet room overnight, however for me I like to power everything off when it is not in use to save energy and hopefully gain longer life from my hardware. The 3D quality is what you would expect from a quality Sony product and on my 240hz LED Bravia TV the image runs very smoothly across the screen. Yet another great feature Sony has added to many of their TV and Blu-Ray products is the ability to access network connected media without connecting your PC to the TV via HDMI or burning dvd's to view movies, listen to music, display pictures or view a presentation, as soon as I connected the unit I could see my Sony Vaio Z series laptop displayed on screen via the network, I was then able to view all media content wirelessly while the laptop was on its docking station in the study. Sony have also added an Internet browser into the mix and from my testing I have been able to browse sites such as Facebook, news and my work emails without any issues, the speed is fast, not quite as fast as my laptop but great for a standalone unit, which, again, saves me from using my laptop. The Skype video calls are amazing quality and my family are in the process of purchasing the BDP-S780 and HD camera so we can talk in real time whilst sitting on the sofa with a cup of coffee in our hand. A great Blu-Ray player and well-priced compared to others with similar features from Panasonic and Samsung.
