Comments about LaCie 12TB 4big Quadra External Hard Drive RAID Array:
I run the Archival Media Conversion Lab for a Special Collections library in Abilene, Texas. Digitizing photos, manuscripts, audio, and video files keep me busy and (often times) running out of digital storage space. The 12TB 4big Quadra is just what we needed (we actually ordered two of them) to store our ever growing files. We run 3+ RAID on them, meaning have 6TB of storage backed up twice. We follow procedures that require us to get as close to the original document or legacy original as possible which requires a great deal of space, as compression (at times) degrades the originals nuances. Using the 800 Firewire cord, it took 19 hours to transfer nearly 2TB of data to the devices. Running the media from the drives is smooth, and they run without any hesitation. Really glad we were able to get them. In about a year, we'll be looking to upgrade them to what will hopefully be 36TB 4big Quadras.
