The JVC GZ-HM445 HD Everio PAL Camcorder is a 1920 x 1080p high def cam for those looking to do more with their video than just point and shoot. At its relatively budget-friendly price-point, the HM445 provides you with not only HD video, but still image capture, and a host of shooting controls. In addition, the camera also boasts dual SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards slots that allow for seamless recording from one card to another - freeing you up from changing media in the middle of shooting.
The core controls and tools of the camera include a 2.7" touch panel LCD, 70x Dynamic zoom, and image stabilization. And at the heart of the camera, capturing that vibrant and detailed footage is the 1/5.8" 1.5Mp CMOS sensor. Shooting controls of the HM445 include helpful options like Intelligent Auto, which takes over the camera and picks the right combination of settings for your shooting situation. Other useful controls include Time-Lapse REC, Smile Meter/Smile Shot, and many more. When you're done shooting the camera comes with editing software built-in for tweaking and uploading your footage right to the 'net.

- Time-Lapse REC records one frame at a time at set intervals (1-80 seconds). So you can watch movement that's hours long in just a few seconds when played back. - Auto REC
- When a subject enters the detecting area and the luminance changes, recording starts automatically. Recording continues as long as there is movement within the area and automatically stops after 5 seconds of no movement. You can use it like a surveillance camera or to observe something. - Smile Meter

Bought it for a friend who is going back to Europe. The quality is very good, especially for the price. This camera has a pretty amazing array of fuctions, including not just face but also SMILE recognition! In addition, the optical zoom is 40x, and it has dual SD slots.
