I bought this camera after using a t2i for a while and saw that this really had some specs that just aren't there in the t2i. The first is the swivel screen. Coming from the camcorder world this was a feature that I was used to having and love having it. It also makes filming video way easier if you have it configured on a rig or if your just walking around filming. The next is the manual audio contro. Even though it doesn't have live audio meters, it is more than any of the other dslr's offer so thats good enough. Even though I do recommend getting either a Juicedlink preamp box.The photos that this camera produces are outstanding. For someone like myself who got this primarily for videos, taking pictures with this is easy and fun!Overall I say this is a great affordable camera, and for those of you deciding between this and the 60d, choose this and save the $ to get a nice lens.

I own a Canon 7D and find the Rebel T3i to be a highly capable complement to that camera. Light in weight and easy to shoot with, the Rebel T3i provides just about everything that a amateur to semi-pro could want in a camera—from low-light capability to 24p HD video.

I have been using this camera to mostly photograph nature scapes. The UI on it is easy to learn. The flip screen is excellent. I have used it for difficult shots a few times already.

Use this for taking great shots of the grandkids. Excellent photos! Upgraded from Rebel XT. No comparison! Love the big, swiveling screen. This will keep me going for a long time. Canon does it again!

This is my first DSLR after giving up my film SLR probably a decade ago. I use it for family pictures and general photography. The camera is wonderfully easy to use, with lots of ability. Controlling it is a learning process.

Pros:
- Lots of options that are easily accessible.
- Large display. Having aging eyes, I can still read and set most of the menus without my readers.
- Canon system- enough said.
- Lightweight- easy to carry around.
- Size- have a small 5.11 kit bag that holds the camera, Sigma 18-200 zoom, Canon 50mm lens, 320EX flash, Stroboframe folding flash bracket, and insundry accessories. Doesn't scream steal me.
- Images- WOW. Upgrading from a 6mp Lumix was very nice.
- RAW images- makes post processing easier. I no longer feel like I am fighting against the camera.
- Layout- Controls are laid out nicely. Swiveling display was a wonderful addition when I was composing from a tall tripod over a fenceline. Can close the display so it is not tempting me to chimp.
- Pop up flash has good power. I cut a strip of plastic from a milk jug, put it in very hot water and bent it to fit over the flash. Secure with rubber bands and you have a softer flash.

Cons:
- Noise at high ISO. Was happy with it's ability to image indoors without flash until I looked at the noise in the images with ISO > 2,000. I shouldn't have expected more, but now that I know, I will be much more careful about using AutoISO.
- Size (double edged sword)- Camera is a little small for my largish hands. Looking at getting the accessory battery pack.
- B&H makes it so easy to find all the great accessories for this camera that my budget went right out the window.

I really like this camera. I also have a Canon 40D and the ease of use of the T3i is just as good. The grip is comfortable. It feels balanced and well put together.

The image quality is very good, and I am very impressed with the video quality. Even the sound is good from the built in microphones. There are definitely some drawbacks to the video in terms of auto focus, so manual focus is a must, but it must be done using the LCD screen and it is difficult in bright light. The LCD screen resolution is amazing... bright and clear and sharp.

I would definitely recommend this camera. Buy a second battery though because the battery runs down quickly when shooting video.

This is an upgrade from the Rebel XS I was using. It was important to keep my current set of lenses while getting increased sensor range and improved contrls.

One nice to have feature is the articulated screen which gives me increased ease of use when shooting no a tripod.

Camera simple to use if you used a canon rebel film camera before .Just started taking pictures so far pretty good .I am using lens from old Canon Elan its working fine have not been able to use video mode yet have not figured it out yet .Have to use it more outside to really know if its accurate in color contrast.

I have owned past versions of Canon digital cameras SLR style D-30, D-60 and find it refreshing to have such high resolution and advanced features for such a reasonable price. The body is light weight therefore should be respected and not treated as if it were a Pro Body ready for the riggers of a rough and tumble life of a comercial photographer but it is very suitable for a serious photographer that will respect his equipment.

This camera has so many new features that it will
take a while to choose my favorites.I still can't believe that they all come at this price.I enjoy photographing flowers and landscapes and have already begun. The monitor is fantastic. It makes my old 6.3 MP Rebel feel as old as a covered wagon.My sincere thanks to tour rep who recommended it.The only thing it won't do is read my mind. come to think of it, it almost does. This is the second t3i I have purchased. I bought another one because I mainly use it for videography and for the price is an incredible camera. Video is very sharp. I am also a fan of the digital zoom feature you may loose some quality but up to about 4.5x still looks very sharp which for macro or telephoto wildlife shots may be the difference between you getting the shot and the animal running away.

I bought the camera body and then bought the lenses I knew I wanted and it's really perfect for the uses I have for it.
First of all I wanted a large adjustable lcd viewfinder because I'm now wearing bifocals and find it difficult to focust through the viewfinder. This one is beautiful. I can't wait to use it more.
I also wanted an 18-200mm zoom lens for travel. I had had one before with my last camera and it is all I need to carry with me. With the Image Stabilization in the lens it's takes wonderful pictures all of the time.
I then wanted a 50mm lens for photographing my artwork for reproduction and bought the EF 50mm 1:1.8 and it is working wonderfully.

I use this as a backup video camera for my 5D Mk II. It performs wonderfully and with a fast lens and a Fader Filter, delivers amazing HD footage with beautiful DoF. My only gripe is that it lacks the ability to tune in the color temperature like the 5D. Matching white balance on a 2 camera shoot needs to be done with the custom white balance feature for both cameras so they match. The flip out LCD is a terrific feature that allows me to monitor the action even when on a jib/crane without having to mount my 7in monitor. Overall an excellent product for the price. Won't comment on the audio since I only use the internal audio for reference.

I already had a 1D series camera, so the Rebel T3i was purchased primarily for its video capapbilities and not for still use. There is a magazine I write for that is beginning to incorporate video clips into online content, so I figured I should ride that wave from the beginning as well as have an updated backup camera.

After doing research, I purchased the Rebel T3i for its HD DSLR video capabilities at an entry-level price and I was not disappointed. It takes some practice and time, but the look of the HD video using Canon "L" lenses with image stabilization has been a pleasant surprise. I didn't care for the video's look when using the camera's program mode out of the box (too "camcordy" looking), but after manually changing the settings, the look is much improved. Being able to shoot HD video at a constant f4, f2.8 (or whatever you want) to seperate the background from the subject is a nice option. If you are not into using a tripod (which I don't when I am on the move covering stories), IS lenses will be a must. Too much jitter otherwise. I am also impressed by it's output at high ISO's. That has been a pleasant surprise for noise to not be much of an issue when shooting up to ISO 3200. We shot an event indoors with poor lighting and the video quality was still good.

As far as its still photography quality, the T3i is adequate for the job. Compared to a 1D series camera, it is not even close in terms of ability and shooting on the fly while changing settings, but that's not its target use, either. I would be able to make do with its photo capabilities if my 1D MkIII were to temporarily go down, but I would want that 1D back ASAP!

In summary, the T3i has nice HD video capability that looks very good with Canon's "L" lenses, especially those with IS. It is lightweight and has a good feel in the hand, but the battery life when filming video is only adequate, so get extra batteries and/or a battery grip. There are other more expensive Canon models that shoot HD video, but I believe I made the right choice as far as "bang for the buck."
