Canon's Powershot SX230 HS Digital Camera (Black) adds a new twist to the feature-packed PowerShot cameras: built-in GPS that will automatically tag your photos with time and location. It also offers a full set of photographic goodies in a very small package (4.1 x 2.4 x 1.3"/10.5 x 6.1 x 3.3 cm and weighing in at just 6.88 oz/195 g)--a 12.1MP CMOS high resolution sensor, a super-zoom 14x wide-angle 28-392mm lens (equivalent in 35mm format), and full 1920 x 1080 HD video with stereo sound, for starters.
It's also got the advanced HS system delivering clear, sharp photos with detail and nuance in low light, with high or low ISO images. Optical image stabilization keeps away the shaky pictures and video, and Smart AUTO recognizes and sets optimal exposure, shutter and focus settings for 32 predefined shooting situations. The Super Slow Motion Movie mode records video at 240fps for a very slow motion playback, and the High-Speed Burst mode allows you to shoot still photos at up to 8.1fps.
A large range of creative effects is available, including fisheye effect, miniature effect (stills and video), toy camera effect that creates a vignette similar to pinhole cameras, monochrome, super vivid, color accent, color swap (pick one color in a photo and replace that color with another of your choice), long shutter to blur moving objects for artistic effect, and many more. One of the most convenient features is the Movie Digest Mode, which will automatically record a short video clip (up to approximately 4 seconds) every time you shoot a still image. The camera will then combine an entire day's worth of clips into a single video--no editing required.

Great Price, Light, Easy to Use & Carry!
We bought this replace our Pentax 555 that was 7 years old and a bit outdated. Tried 2 other cameras prior to this one and was UNDERwhelmed by them. The SX230 HS was in the same price range has as good a processor and FAR BETTER ZOOM capability yet still fits in your shirt pocket. We recently returned from Punta Cana, DR and the pictures we took are almost lifelike, makes me wish I were there STILL. Movies are incredible even in low-light night shooting. Battery doesn't last long but I expected this and bought a 2nd battery and that always got us through the day. You can get better but I don't make money from photography and for any SIGNIFICANT improvement you'll at least $150 more. I turned off the PREVIEW function in order to shoot faster, the CONTINUOUS mode allows REALLY fast shooting also. I don't like the POP-UP flash because usually my left index finger is holding that spot when I turn the camera on and stops it from POPPING-UP.

Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I've been underwhelmed by the camera. In particular, it's ability to capture action shots is disappointing. The burst mode is really slow when there isn't very strong light. Image stabilization is not what I expected (I make a concerted effort to hold the camera steady and wherever possible brace my arms against fixed objects to further steady the camera). But still too many blurry shots. I was expecting this Canon to be head-and-shoulders better than my previous $70-or-so point-and-shoot and while it is certainly better and more versatile, it's not that much better. It's an OK camera but I am mildly disappointed in its performance.

If you don't want to buy a big reflex camera but you want to be able to use ypur camera manually, this is a great choice. I own a canon 450 eos, and i don't always want to carry it with me especially when light is not good. However i want to have a good camera withme all the time and not just a tourist camera, a good one. This is the ideal product. I

Wow!, what a nice camera. It's very easy to use and takes excellent pictures and video. I have a Cannon 30D, and the Powershot takes just as good of pictures as it. I needed a video camera and started looking at my options and decided why buy just a video camera when you can get both in one package. The only thing that takes some getting used to is the flash. It's rite where you are ac costume to holding onto the camera. Other than that I think it's a great camera for the money.

This camera is great. The zoom is amazing. I had the older model of this camera and upgrading to this model was well worth the [$]. The zoom is great for Concerts and it has all the features like fidgeted effect, colour swap, colour accent ect. This model is also much more compact than the older version. For the price it is an excellent camera.

Comments about Canon Powershot SX230 HS Digital Camera (Blue):
I was in the market for a "pocket" type of camera to carry in my purse. I'm a serious photographer and have a Canon 7D for my nature photography. It is too large to carry with me everywhere but I still like to have a camera with me. This small camera fits the bill and then some. It can do a lot for a point and shoot and I have gotten fabulous photos when I might have missed them because I wasn't carrying my camera. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants a small camera that can handle lots of different lighting situations with suprising results. Can't replace the 7D, of course, but is a very satisfactory camera to have when I don't want to take the big one. I love it.
