Comments about Philips 7" Portable DVD Player PET749:
We bought this portable TV and DVD player to take on long plane/bus/train trips, vacations on the beach and remote areas. Usually not interested in the movies shown by airlines, we can watch some favorite DVDs instead. A short splitter cord allows earphone listening for two. Amazingly, when first set-up the TV with mini antenna found 58 digital channels here in L.A. to watch for free. Will be interesting to see what it can capture in foreign countries. Screen resolution is sharp and can easily tilt and swivel around.
Typical Philips high quality construction and finish. Compact enough, smaller than a laptop, to pack in my carry-on bag with cameras without adding too much bulk or weight. For a price less than some iPods and MP3 players, it's a great entertainment travel accessory.

Comments about Philips 7" Portable DVD Player PET749:
I can't attest to the durability of the device yet because I only took it out of the box to test it before wrapping it up and putting it under the tree for my hubby. I was amazed how lightweight the device is. I went through the digital TV setup but wasn't able to acquire any channels in my remote location. That didn't surprise me because we have the same problem with the TV in our camper. It took me a little while to find the button to open the DVD player, but once I found it the DVD played without any problems and the picture was very clear and bright. One downside I noticed is there is no way to control the volume with the remote. That seemed kind of weired, but I guess with a 7" screen they expect the TV/DVD player to be within reach. I bought this as a gift for my husband, primarily to use in our camping trailer. We have a small trailer and stay at many locations where we don't have power hook-up. If we get stuck inside on a rainy day and want to watch a movie we can use the new device versus running the camper battery down with the larger TV. We will also be able to use the digital TV antenna in many areas we visit, once again without running down our camper battery. We hoped to use it at home during hurricane power outages, but unless we install a large digital antenna outdoors we won't be able to pick up any stations. The player does come with a small antenna with a magnetic base, but the cord isn't very long.

Comments about Philips 7" Portable DVD Player PET749:
I've read reviews saying that they are horribly sketchy in build quality, they come out of the box with picture/screen defects, etc. Let me at least put your minds to rest on the odds. I just ordered 2 from B&H and both of mine checked out fine. When you buy these, make sure you compare oranges and oranges. The screen resolution on this model is really stunning. Couple that with the connectible antenna and built in HD tuner and you can pull in a great variety of stations if
you are near a metro area. Most cable outfits mutiplex so may channels that the "HD" they offer looks good but not great. Over the Air HD signals are almost NEVER compressed and look fantastic. Your local public TV stations broadcast of NOVA will look as good on this TV as your cable at home, and it's only a 7 incher. I am going to pick up one for me, because the two I got are going out for Christmas. Can't beat this little unit.
