The Panasonic SDR-H100 Camcorder puts standard definition recording and a multitude of features and functions in your hands without breaking the bank. The H100 also boasts an 80GB internal hard drive and the option to record to SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards for hours upon hours of storage. In addition, features like 78x Enhanced zoom, optical image stabilization, and face detection all help to make your footage smooth and clear.
The camera has a 33mm wide-angle lens that lets you get more in each shot, while the zoom mic and wind noise canceller capture clear audio. Other features that help ease the recording process include shooting controls like Intelligent Auto which automatically picks the correct settings for any shooting situation. AF/AE Tracking optimizes focus and exposure on moving subjects to ensure a shot that will stand the test of the time. And other features like Intelligent Contrast Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, and Face Detection all take the guess work out of recording you can enjoy the moment along with everyone else! When it comes time to edit and share the H100 comes with Panasonic's VideoCam suite 3.5 software. With this software you can upload directly to sites like YouTube and Facebook without hassle. Other post-production options include archiving with an optional DVD burner and viewing on an optional VIERA TV directly from the SD card. In addition, you can transfer your video to a DVD recorder for burning to a DVD disc.

- The new Enhanced Optical 78x Zoom has been added to the compact body of the easy-to-carry camcorder. By taking maximum advantage of the effective CCD area, the camera makes it easy to capture a wide range of dynamic images, from sweeping landscapes with the 33mm wide-angle scope to close-ups of distant subjects with the 78x zoom, without having to worry about image degradation. However, with long-distance zoom shots, even a tiny bit of hand-shake has a huge effect on picture quality. That's where Advanced O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) comes in. It shifts a corrective lens as you shoot to help eliminate the effects of hand-shake, so you get clear, sharp shots even at high zoom levels. - AF/AE Tracking
- AF/AE Tracking optimizes the focus and exposure for a selected subject to ensure beautiful results. After you "lock on" to a subject at the center of the screen by pressing the AF/AE button, the camera follows it around, keeping it in sharp focus and properly exposed
- Advanced O.I.S.
- When hand-shake is detected while shooting, the Advanced O.I.S. system is automatically activated to compensate for blurring and produce beautiful recorded images. A new Active Mode that further extends the hand-shake correction range, is also automatically activated. It significantly reduces any blurring that might occur when shooting on the move, and making it great for active shooting. Because the system is optical, there's only minimal loss of image quality even when viewed on a large-screen TV

- By detecting the intensity of the ambient light and adjusting the exposure accordingly, Intelligent Contrast Control prevents blown highlights and blocked shadows. This helps render natural-looking, highly nuanced images with proper contrast

For scenes with particularly strong contrast, such as when you're shooting a spot-lit area on a darkened stage. It captures the well-lit subject perfectly and prevents washed-out areas

In dim lighting, the camcorder automatically switches to a slower shutter speed so that images across the entire frame are bright and easy to see

- This mode captures faces beautifully. Face Detection automatically senses the ambient lighting and adjusts the exposure accordingly, so faces are bright and easy to see. The focus also prioritizes the faces, and skin tones are smoothed. Faces in the center of the frame serve as the reference for adjustments, but the function can detect up to 15 faces in all

- 1: The Drop Detect function senses if the camera is falling and moves the head away from the hard drive. This camera was purchased for it's zoom capabilities and it's hard drive (80G).
The zoom is incredible! And with the internal stabilization, even recording things from far away are possible. I'd recommend a tripod if done for an extended period of time.
The hard drive works well, as does the option to use a SD card. The only reason I didn't give it Five Stars is due to the somewhat confusing way to switch from one to the other to record or review what was recorded.
And yes, I'd recommend this camera to a friend.
