The Power-Saving Back-UPS Pro 1000 from APC provides power to your important computer components in the event of an electrical outage. The Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) contains a battery which continues to power computers, monitors and other components if the electricity is cut from them. An LCD status display provides information including remaining battery life, load capacity, and event notices. The battery is hot-swappable and easy to replace. An audible alarm alerts you of events like power outage and low battery.
Note! The included control software is compatible with Windows PCs only. It is not supported on Mac computers.

I love this APC UPS battery backup. I bought it for the Energy Saver feature that allows you to plug in units that only need to be turned on when the computer is on. It works great!
Just make sure you don't plug in a unit that connects to the USB port. As soon as the unit turns off, the iMac senses it and wakes up so it goes into an endless cycle of sleeping and waking up. This is not the UPS back up's problem but just consistent with how the iMac operates. It needs to let the applications know that the USB device has been turned off.
I love this unit!!! It's a good thing the different brand that I bought had a problem and I returned it. This APC UPS BR1000G is a keeper!

I bought this product to protect my home theater system. Protects it from spikes, and blink-out power outages. If the power blinks, the battery keeps the cooling fans working, so that when the power comes back on the surge of power does not effect the system. Cheap way to protect your investment.

I have had several APC UPS units. This one is the first that incorporated a lighted display clearly showing important status items.

Comments about APC Power-Saving Back-UPS Pro 1000:
Beware that not all units (including APC brand) protect against both low power which usually happens during the summer peak periods and spikes. Find out before you buy one. I found the powersaving features (aka green) a bit strange. Your main unit when shutting off or going into sleep mode can also shut off an external monitor which is not good for the monitor. Work w APC techs to get it right and if you think you got the wrong answer call back. That happened to me. The newer units seem to be a bit sensitive. Mine is working fine. B&H delivered this in less than a day. Amazing!

I wish I bought one earlier. It was expensive but it protects my computer from power outages beautifully. The software does not work with my Mac but I can live without that. I get plenty of time to shutdown and if the computer is on sleep, it gives me at least 12 hours of run time in sleep mode. It fits nicely under my desk. I love it.

why in this day and age would someone make an big, expensive UPS and put the outlets so close together that you can't use half of them if your hardware has a big cube plug. this is really lazy design.

This is one fine UPS. Powerful. Quiet. Plenty of outlets. I especially like the way they pack the battery and how easy it is to turn it over for proper operation.
I'll be buying anyone soon.
Good job APC.

Would have saved me hours and hours of file reconstruction if I had this unit a month earlier! (Footprint issue mentioned above is minor)

It is so quiet I don't even know it is there and it is less than 2 feet from my face on my desk. I found out yesterday it works great. The power went out, lights went out, but my computer did not even flinch, which is good because I would have lost an entire days of inventory as it happened 5 minutes before quitting time. That is the reason I bought it and it is doing it's job. Great price also.

I live in a place where local power is iffy. Brown-outs, black-outs, hurricanes, etc. My comm gear (DSL modem, wireless router, micro-cell tower) does not suffer outages well. This unit protects from all. My gear draws 14 watts. It reportedly stays powered for >4 hrs. Plugged and unplugged a couple times - all good.

Comments about APC Power-Saving Back-UPS Pro 1000:
The APC UPS has a monitor screen that displays the AC line status at any given moment. Watching it revealed the reason the Belkin UPS it replaces kept shutting down. The Belkin couldn't handle the voltage drop each time a laser printer starts or wakes and warms. The Belkin read it as an unacceptible voltage drop akin to a brown out and shut evrything down without warning. Even Brother couldn't say why their printers are often not compatible with a UPS. The APC circuitry takes such a drop into consideration and allows for the voltage to recover. It all became apparant by watching the APC's monitor screen. It's been in service 2 weeks; so far no problems.
