I was thrilled to find this product, being one of the many stuck with a useless TB port and only 1 FW800. Boy, am I regretting using this product now, it has fried several of my drives!!
Initially everything went fine, however after a several weeks things went down hill rapidly. At first it was intermittent, I would would turn on a drive connected to one of the FW800 ports and any drives that I already had mounted through the other port would suffer an improper eject. At first I thought it was a fluke and then as I continued to use the product (Big Mistake) the issue worsened to the point that even if I plugged in any USB devices the iLynx 800 would spontaneously dismount all connected peripherals not to mention the multiple "DISK NOT EJECTED PROPERLY" warnings.
I contacted moshi and their customer service asked the usual "are we really the one's to blame" questions after which they politely and promptly sent a replacement. I sent my "dud" back to them, (at my expense) and started again with a fresh iLynx 800. All went well initially and then the process began all over again.
Final conclusion: Several damaged drives later, it's not worth the pain even if it's the most affordable FW800 port solution out there.

I bought this thinking I could have one extra FireWire 800 port because iMac only has one and I was hoping to split it into two, but this device doesn't do that although it offers extra USB ports which I don't need because iMac has 4 of them.

I have been having issues with my FW 800 devices on my iMac for two years, having to plug and unplug my external hard drives every time I need to use my flash card reader....finally I sprung for this hub and voila....problem solved. This is a really well made item-solid and reliable. Highly recommended for MAC users with multiple FW 800 devices.

fast enough transfer speeds, keep in mind when it has 4 usb ports and 2 firewire 800, that you're only gaining 3 usb ports and 1 firewire because it takes one of each in back of your computer. seems logical but i never really thought about it. happy with purchase.

Comments about Moshi iLynx 800 Advanced FireWire 800 / USB 2.0 Combo Hub:
After purchasing a new 2011 27" iMac, I looked for a Firewire hub and found that there are not many hubs in the affordable category. Most were repeaters in the hundreds of dollars price range but I didn't need anything that elaborate. Then I found the Moshi iLynx 800 and liked several things about it right off the bat.
First, it's a combo hub with four USB 2.0 and two Firewire 800 ports.
Second, it is very affordable.
Third, it looks like it was made specifically for the iMac as it has the same finish and even the shape mimics the foot on the iMac stand although the iLynx is not as big as the foot. Mine sits on the foot and now it's so much easier to plug into the iLynx than reaching around to the back of the Mac.
I haven't been using it for very long so can't comment on product longevity, but the connections are snug (a lot of other hubs have loose and/or floppy connectors) and I haven't lost any connectivity with either USB or Firewire. End result, it appears to be a well made, reliable product.
I am very happy with this hub.

Comments about Moshi iLynx 800 Advanced FireWire 800 / USB 2.0 Combo Hub:
You need to plug in both the firewire and USB plugs to get access to both its firewire and USB ports. It effectively gives you one additional firewire port and three extra USB ports.
The USB ports work for some but not all accessories, for example my iPad wouldn't recharge from the iLynx, but my CF card reader worked perfectly.

Comments about Moshi iLynx 800 Advanced FireWire 800 / USB 2.0 Combo Hub:
In order to get this product to work you need to plug both the firewire and USB cables into your MAC. I had thought maybe that you only needed to plug in the firewire cable.
That said you get an extra firewire port and an extra three USB ports. A pretty neat solution for getting an extra firewire port.
I couldn't charge my iPad from one of these ports.

Comments about Moshi iLynx 800 Advanced FireWire 800 / USB 2.0 Combo Hub:
As an Apple guy with a serious interest in photography, I have 2 FireWire 800, 2T, external hard drives dedicated to image storage and back-up (mainly memory-hog raw format files). This enables fast data transfer and manipulation. I also have 2 additional USB 2.0 external hard drives I use for document storage/back-up which are routed through this hub.
The iLynx 800 Combo Hub was the ideal solution and still left 2 USB 2.0 ports for additional peripherals. The unit sits nicely on the support leg of my MacPro with the cables running through the leg hole. The unit's sleek design and silver color blends nicely with the computer and lends to eye appeal.
The set-up is exceptionally simple and quick; doesn't get much easier.

Comments about Moshi iLynx 800 Advanced FireWire 800 / USB 2.0 Combo Hub:
After spending about half as much money on a product that was suppose to work and didn't, I decided to try the highly rated iLynx 800. I own a MacBook Pro and I record and produce music for a living, so I bought this device to give me more Firewire and USB ports. Well, it just works, first time and every time. It is not a powered hub, but it draws so little power, it will not be an issue. I would gladly recomend the iLynx 800.

Comments about Moshi iLynx 800 Advanced FireWire 800 / USB 2.0 Combo Hub:
It is difficult to find a hub that handles Firewire 800. I had a hub that looked like [@] parts and had a power supply, but it quit. This iLynx 800 is reasonably priced, and goes with an iMac. It keeps the wires back, and out of the way. The lighted "moshi" is only useful as a nightlight. Now, if they could only combine a trackpad with a hub.

Comments about Moshi iLynx 800 Advanced FireWire 800 / USB 2.0 Combo Hub:
With the iMac not having eSATA ports, I am down to FireWire 800 to connect to my external drives (Thunderbolt is just too expensive at this point). Here is the problem, I have two externals and I needed a more than one FireWire ports (I don't believe daisy chain using FireWire is all that stable). The comes iLynx 800 by Moshi to the rescue. Not only does it provide me with two FireWire 800 ports, but it serves as a hub for USB ports so I don't always have to reach around the back of the iMac. The style of the product matches the base of the iMac perfectly. Great Product!

Simply, it works. With Macs and the not-ready for primetime thunderbolt. we all have the reality of needing to add peripherals, and there are few options.

I use this with my 2010 27" iMac. It fits perfectly on the base, keeping with the simplicity of the Apple line. Plugged in and working in no time. There's no power adapter, which was key for me. It runs off the power of the iMac. I would highly recommend this for anyone. Well worth the price.

Comments about Moshi iLynx 800 Advanced FireWire 800 / USB 2.0 Combo Hub:
This looks great and operates as expected. Something that's a little weird though is that the Firewire 800 plugs go in upside down from every other firewire 800 outlet I've seen. In other words, the little notch in the connector goes down with this hub, instead of up. Not a big deal, just something weird I noticed. It works great and looks awesome on the imac. I particularly love the way the "moshi" lights up. The light is crisp white and looks really sharp.
