The Zacuto EVF Flip-Up Electronic View Finder is a 3.2” (8cm) high resolution (384,000 dots) monitor that is compatible with all the Z-Finder models.
Using the EVF Flip-Up, you can operate any camera that has an HDMI port, with the correct form factor for video with the camera "in-line" to the rod system and your eye in the Z-Finder offset. In addition to enhancing stability for better resolution, the EVF Flip-Up allows for a comfortable eye position that enables low-mode shooting. You can shorten your camera package, detach your EVF from the rig, and store it in a dolly or crane for car shots.
Its built-in Z-finder frame flips up 180°. Flipping up the monitor allows you to share your shot with others. The EVF Flip-Up is compatible with all cameras that have an HDMI output such as the Panasonic AF-100, Sony F3, RED ONE, RED Scarlet, and RED Epic.
Equipped with a scaling function, the EVF Flip-UP adjusts the aspect ratio, thus ensuring that the image fits the screen when using certain DSLR cameras. It features an HDMI type 'A' in, and an HDMI type 'A' loop out. In addition to enabling image view on the EVF's 800 x 480 screen, the feature also allows signal looping out to devices such as an external monitor or the Teradek Cube. Powered by an LP-E6 style battery, the EVF Flip-Up can run for 5.2 hours.
Other features include Monochrome, Image Flip, Brightness and Contrast Adjustments, an Audio Meter Indicator, and upgradeable USB firmware. In addition to Pixel to Pixel zoom, it also offers Chroma settings for color saturation and Peaking Focus Assist that aids critical focusing by sharpening the edges and making in-focus objects stand out. Blue Only, which allows you to view the blue channel only, is a professional feature used while viewing SMPTE color bars for monitor calibration. Anamorphic setting helps in viewing an anamorphic image in the EVF Flip-Up Electronic View Finder by stretching out the image.
The EVF Flip-Up also has Frame Line Generators with aspect ratio frame lines such as 1.33:1 (4x3), 1.66:1 (15x9), 1.78:1 (16x9), 1.85:1 (35mm theatrical), 2.35:1 (Cinemascope), and a “rule of thirds” grid. Exposure Assist- Zebra Stripes allow setting of 2 separate IRE levels. For example, you can set one for 55 IRE to get a properly exposed skin tone, while the other can be set at 100 to indicate pure white and the point before over exposed signal clipping. The Scaling Function corrects aspect ratios by expanding the image and utilizing the entire width and resolution of the display screen. The battery level indicator can be set to show or not to show on the screen. When set not to show, the indicator will automatically appear when the battery level is down to 10%. Additionally, the Live Menu Preview allows you to see the changes taking place as you select the menu items.

I bought a pretty elaborate setup of Zacuto products to work with my camera and EVF. I thought all the items were quality products but the EVF would not recognize the Pentax K5. The folks at Zacuto were great in trying to get it to work for me but it was to be a one time deal. Any upgrades would not be Pentax friendly. I didn't lose a dime because they refunded me in full. Just a heads up for Pentax users.

Comments about Zacuto EVF Flip-Up Electronic View Finder:
Bought this EVF based on several reviews and having the chance to play with it on set before. Its features are extensive and color space is dead on. For the price...you definitely get what you want here. I use this with my 5DMKII and the EVF has a preset to use the entire screen when recording or not! I missed the Zebra function from my HVX200 and having it back helps with lighting in those tricky situations.
Watch the video reviews of this EVF and you'll see why it's #1. Must have for your gear collection.

It's a very impressive demonstration of what can be pulled of if you listen to the customers as a company, and Zacuto is obviously very good at that. There is not much that I would change, if anything at all. Of course, there is always more you can add, but for the DSLR shooter, this really is the ultimate viewfinder.
It not only makes shooting more flexible, but also tranforms DSLRs into more professional movie machines in so many ways, alleviating many of the cameras' downsides. The Zacuto EVF feels like a natural extension to any DSLR, as if it has always been there … and I truly don't want to miss it from any of my DSLR shooting in the future. Great work!

One of the best HD image quality on Camera monitor by-far. I wish they'll make some bigger size like 7" with the same quality.

I have only had a Zacuto EVF Flipper now for just a few days and I think the best description is that it is like having a 2nd INTEL intellectual processor.
Once you get the hang of the fine detail it truly provides both in picture quality and information plus the fact that your eye is enclosed and can just focus on the situation and you can see the actual fine detail and effect of your own adjustments on your work quality which quickly improves and that saves you real money and time in editing...
You do not need to call yourself any more the news video reporter or an eng videographer but you can start looking at developing the finer art and craftsmanship of studying cinematography hopefully.

The Zacuto EVF is worth every penny.
LCD quality is stelar, the ease of use and features are also priceless.
The ability to choose and store multiple camera profiles is invaluable and really works.
Focusing and composing with a DSLR has just become easy and trouble free with the Zacuto EVF even with the 5D MKII which switches to 480p when recording.
Many useful features like zebras, peaking and the great frame line generator. The included HDMI cable is really nice and the right size.
Only drawback I see is the lack of multiple mounting points so I think you really need to buy the Zacuto EVF Cheese Stick.
It's also made to work with a Z-finder so make sure you get one.

Comments about Zacuto EVF Flip-Up Electronic View Finder:
I use this with my 5DMKII. I've been avoiding a lot of the add-on accessories for my DSLR as I believe it goes against the small form factor. However, especially for tripod work, I find the Zacuto EVF to be a must-have accessory. For handheld work, I find the EVF to be really effective as I can now tilt the viewfinder up a little, cradle the camera slightly below eye level and tuck my elbows in for a steadier shot.
On the sticks, one can achieve the previously unachievable with ease and comfort.
The firmware offers a wealth of options most importantly functions that help with focus and exposure. With peaking and zebra turned off, I find the resolution of the EVF to be very close to that provided by the 5D's LCD screen. There are presets for various single chip large sensor cameras including the 5D. I don't use the preset because when you press the record button, the image upscales a bit and fills the screen to the point where I can't see my aperture, shutter and ISO value displays. So I leave it in Auto mode meaning the image size does not alter once in record. If you don't need the aperture etc displayed then you're in for a big treat. The image displayed appears so much bigger than the Z-Finder attached to the camera's LCD screen. It's a wonderful immersive experience where your whole world is filled with the image. It's a bit like sitting in the third row at the cinema. I've been shooting with broadcast ENG cameras for over 20 years and find this viewfinder to be as good as or better than anything I've ever used. This is quantifiably better than any "professional" viewfinder on the market. It's only when one uses "broadcast standard" equipment that one realises how the world should be viewed through a video camera. The Zacuto EVF gives me a broadcast standard viewfinder. It really is that good.
Now for the not so good. Any EVF of its kind is an add-on with a cable a battery and some form of attachment. Zacuto have engineered the cable with great care, however HDMI was not designed to be repeatedly plugged and unplugged. My low-key camera is now bigger and heavier.
The battery has a good life and is interchangeable with the 5D, 60D and 7D camera battery. There is a compatibility issue with the charger though. Standard Canon batteries won't charge with the Zacuto charger. No big deal. The attachment provided with the EVF is the weakest link. The hot-shoe ball device is not a Zacuto product. It's a cheap and nasty attachment that isn't up to the task. I binned it and figured out something else. Zacuto offer other solutions but they're all have compromises and at an extra cost. If I was Zacuto, I would upgrade the hot-shoe attachment even if it meant charging more. They need to figure out a mounting solution that provides movement on one axis only - up and down without having to adjust a wing-nut on a ball. I'm going to be harsh and deduct one star for this terrible attachment solution.

Comments about Zacuto EVF Flip-Up Electronic View Finder:
We have all heard how amazing the picture quality is - I was a little disappointed. It's good -better than the camera LCD, but not as sharp as all the reviewers lead you to believe. For me, the "Must Have" features of the EVF are the dual zebra, 1 to 1 scaling, 7 hours on a single battery, audio meters for playback (Canon 5D) so I can quickly check audio recording, and accurate color & luma display. If you are going to shoot DSLR professionally you need these features.

This has been one of the most useful purchases I've made in a long time. The display is beautiful and well made. It is small and lightweight and has impressive battery performance. It makes shooting video so much easier, especially on DSLRs.
It is far easier to judge focus using this than the rear lcd. Combine this with a Noga arm and you're set. The focus assist works great as does all the other functions like the false color. It is so versatile, I can't really think of anything that I would want it to do that it doesn't already offer. The HDMI pass through works as expected enabling you to send the signal to another monitor. I can't imagine shooting without it.

Comments about Zacuto EVF Flip-Up Electronic View Finder:
It is a must for 5D & 7D owners, as a great quality viewing monitor. Since 5D/7D do not have a adjustable view finder like 60D, this hi quality monitor allows low and high angle shooting without laying on the floor or getting a ladder to be able to view the screen of the camera. I think the quality is one of the best, specially for focusing. A great unit!

Excellent quality EVF.
It's very versatile and gives you ability to focus, precisely.
Simple and straight forward interface. Lots of functions to customize for your needs.
The only thing I complain would be the weight of the EVF. It is a little heavy to hold the EVF on a ball head, which is included in the box. I would recommend to use one of Zacuto's EVF mounts for secure rigging.

Everything I'm looking, great for a camera operator. Would've maybe liked more 1/4-20 mounting options other than the bottom though.
