While this is a good addition to the Fuji W3, adding features not otherwise available, I found a few design problems that should be dealt with by the manufacturer:

Most egregious, there is a light leak in the upper left-hand corner between the edge of the camera (on the side near the parallax adjuster). This allows light to be reflected from the back of the filters/WA adapters into the lens causing flares. The right side appears light tight.

The epoxy used to glue the threaded metal filter/lens holders in place was almost completely blocking one of the sound conduits.

Because the handle on the right hand side is hollow, there is a lot of handling noise when the system is used in a quiet location.

Fortunately, these were not insurmountable problems and, by gluing in a piece of foam, reaming out the epoxy and using a bottom-mounted handle, I've made the unit workable. However, I should not have had to do this. "Not my job!" as they say.

Even without lenses, it gives you a handy grip, HOT SHOE and strap connectors. The hot shoe/off camera flash is really important as the on camera flash (right "between the eyes") often puts shadows on either side of your subject and is uncomfortable to view in 3D. Being able to add lenses or filters is icing on the cake!

I've found this adapter quite useful! To use the adapter one simply opens up the W3 camera cover, so that it is turned on, and then fits the camera into the back of the adapter, securing it using a tripod screw, that is part of the unit.

Once fitted the adapter (see photo) expands the capabilities of the camera in several very useful ways.

First, and most important, it has 37mm filter threads in front of the camera's lenses, so that filters, lens shades, and supplementary lenses (such as fisheye, wide angle, and telephoto) may be used on the camera.

Second, a flash slave trigger is incorporated into the body of the adapter, allowing use of the hot-shoe on top of the adapter with many flash units. A PC connector is also incorporated for use with flash units that use a PC cord.

Third, an ergonomic hand grip allows much easier and secure hand holding of the camera.

Fourth, a bubble level, visible from the top or back of the adapter is included,

Fifth, a standard thread tripod socket is located on the bottom of the unit, so a tripod may be used in conjunction with the adapter.

Last, it incorporates neck strap posts at either end, so that the camera may be worn like a traditional camera.

The entire unit weighs just a little more than 7 ounces (210 grams), so it does not add a lot of weight to the camera.

While it's nice to have all of these features, the two that will probably interest most people are the filter threads and the flash hot shoe.

I already had a pair of Series 7 threaded supplemental Itorex semi-fisheye lenses. For those I had 49mm and 52mm adapters. So, first I had to obtain a pair of 37mm to Series 7 step-up rings to attach the lenses to the adapter (from B&H!).

Once I had the step-up rings the fisheye lenses fit perfectly on the adapter. (Smaller 37mm lens supplements are available from B&H).

At the widest angle of the cameras lenses I did not get a full fisheye, but very close. One can use the zoom feature to get varying degrees of wide angle images. I also have a pair of lens shades, which are handy if I just want to wear the camera around my neck and use it in the traditional way.

The ALA provides a means to add any combination of 72mm lenses to your Fuji 3D camera, such as wide angle, telephoto, fisheye, etc. Cyclopital makes a W1 version and a W3 version.
