This is my second Coolpix by Nikon. It just keeps getting better. I use the macro setting to take pictures of the gold and silver thimbles I sell. I appreciate the fact that my settings stay fixed when I shut the camera off. The pictures I get are an asset to my retail business, and I always get great bids on the net. In addition the pictures I get on the auto setting are superior. I recommend this camera highly, both for performance and size. It is more compact than my former Coolpix 4300.

I have a non-profit animal educational organization and we do programs at different locations to educate kids and adults about our wildlife. We take pictures of our events and of the guest holding an animal. This camera is so easy to use, just point and shoot. This is a nice camera for people that just want to document special moments or are beginning to get into photography. I had an earlier version of this camera, but it was dropped so I needed a new one. I upgraded to this one and I'm very pleased with it! The red is a beautiful color and the pictures are nice and clear. Sometimes it takes a little bit to focus, but I think that depends on the lighting. The "Easy Auto Mode" is perfect because it senses the lighting and object so you don't have to guess which setting to put it on, which can take some time. It is also really great for close-ups and still-lifes. I would recommend this camera because it is definitely worth the money (even though it's not that expensive!) and it's very easy to use. Overall, it's a great, simple camera!

I use this as a pocket camera for when I'm on my bike, or hiking. Pictures are much better than a phone camera, but it's inexpensive enough that I don't worry about damaging it. AA batteries are a huge plus and their life is good. Huge upgrade from my old Nikon L4 that served this purpose for me for over 4 years.

This is my first digital point and shoot camera. I wanted something simple that would give me a nice picture. This Nikon camera is very nice looking especially in red. Once you find your way around in using the controls, it's pretty easy. The screen on the camera is really nice. The sound on video is good, but the video gets grainy when you enlarge on the computer to watch it in full screen. The pictures are very nice too, great color! Nice and bright. My hands are a little unstable so most look just a little out of focus blown up on the computer screen... even though it has VR. (For most of the pics, it's not even noticeable smaller.)
I haven't had this camera very long to really try out all the features, so if I get to studying the manual, I probably could fix the problems above. Can't wait to see the pictures printed.
I'm not disappointed in buying it and got a good price for it on sale. I feel it was worth it. It's a great little camera.

I am a real "photo enthusiast" and I have a lot of complicated gear for photo shoots. This camera lets me take great pictures for the fun it. I can leave the big gear home when I want to take somesnaps at a party or gathering. 14 pixels make a nice photo. It does, however have a design flaw- the battery/sd door is the weakest part (also the most used part) of the camera.

I've only had this camera a couple days. But I have shot a bunch of stuff with it and no glichs. I shoot Nikon digital and film cameras, maybe that is why everything on it was easy to use right from the begining. I bought it to carry on fishing and bird hunting trips, fits right in my pocket. But, I'm gonna have a belt pouch made for it from heavy nylon. I use my DSLR's to shoot the dog's now but only in training where I control everything. They are simply to large to carry hunting with me. This past summer I went on a tuna fishing trip off the Oregon coast, took my D5000. Got to thinking about it and 50mi out to sea is not where I should take an $800 camera and lense, better a [$] camera. Great buy for what I paid. I don't think it's the best thing since sliced bread but it does what I want very well, takes very nice photo's and was a breeze to figure out.Really like it using AA alkline battery's, I keep a lot of them on hand for film camera's, flash's and a med format camera. I do suspect that there are other camera's that would fit my needs but having had one, going back to Nikon was easy to pick up. The other camera was a bit difficult to get thru. But it made a great first camera for my grandson.The not so great thing about it is it's so light it's hard for me to hold but VR fixes that.The question below I have one I can't answer. Short lag time? As compared to what, one of my DSLR's? Can't compare it to my other only point and shoot, long time since I've used it. Lag time will take some getting used to, even if it is short.I did take some photos with it and put them in my computer. Image quality is very very good. For what I need and what I paid, this is a steal!

Bought this camera to take pics while on vacation in Hawaii.
Pros: It's compact and lightweight, easy to handle and has great picture resolution and zoom functions. Easy to tuck into my pocket while on a hike or walking along the beach. Good battery life/usage.
Cons: It takes a bit longer to focus each shot than with the Kodak camera I owned previously. Selector buttons are a little small for large-fingered persons.
