I am using this Pelican case as a small laptop carrier mounted on my motorcycle. I have seen many other rally riders use pelican cases for this purpose, but had never noticed how tough and robust these cases are. I imagine I could flip my motorcycle into a lake, on fire, while being shot at and my laptop and camera would be fine. The waterproofness(is that a word) is awesome, I submerged the case to see if paper would get wet inside, and after 15 minutes the paper came out dry. I was impressed. My only complaint with this case it that the latches are very strong(not really a complaint), and they take alot of force to open and close. I imagine this will get better with more use. Thanks Pelican for making a great product, and thanks B&H for the best price out there.

Comments about Pelican 1450 Case with Foam (Black):
Very stout case, robust locking latches (that can be a bit hard to open but that's because they're firmly locked in). Easy to work with interior foam to customize fit.
A little bulky but that's the price/need for the protection it offers.

Comments about Pelican 1450 Case with Foam (Black):
This is the second box of this brand I buy. Having noticed how easily I could change the interior of the box(it should be noted that the first box was not purchased for the product that I use now) I decided to purchase a second one for an electronic tester for batteries that cost me a small fortune, and yet, did not come with a protective enclosure. If you go to the manufacturer's website, you will be impressed with all that can endure the Pelican boxes. For all your valuables, there is a Pelican case for you at a reasonable price. You will surely not be disappointed with your purchase unless, of course, if you do not choose the right size.

We use Pelican cases (as well as Storm cases) all the time to ship our equipment all over the world. Whether it's sitting on a dock during a rain storm, on a boat, plane, or truck, as long as your gear is packed well inside it, it'll do the job! Great prices from BH [...]

Comments about Pelican 1450 Case with Foam (Black):
I bought this case based on Pelican's (deserved) reputation for durability to use for my telescope eyepieces and other accessories. While it is indeed a little pricier than it's competition, this is definitely a case (Pun intended) of getting what you pay for.
First, it's built like a tank. You feel no fear about the contents (in this case, several hundred dollars of glass) at all. The case truly feels like it can take some serious punishment and just shrug it off. The worst I've done to it is accidentally knocking it off a table (my clumsiness is why I wanted a sturdy case), and it simply hit the ground and... nothing happened. I don't think anything inside the protective foam so much as budged more than a mm or two. However, this armor does come with a catch-- the case is fairly heavy. Empty, it still weighs a good 4 or 5 lbs. Worthwhile in my perspective, but worth noting that it is heavier than the competition.
In addition, the latches are rock solid, a typical weakpoint of clamshell/hinge cases. Once this thing is closed, it STAYS closed. In fact, if anything they might be a little *too* hard to open, but that's a fair trade off for the peace of mind knowing it's not going to pop open while you're carrying it. They might soften a bit with use, as well. We'll see in a year.
For downsides, there's that, and actually closing the latches. If you have weaker hands (such as arthritis), this case is not for you. You really have to put some muscle behind locking the latches down, and they do so with a thunderous noise. Again, in my opinion, this is a small price to pay for security, but they are not as user friendly/easy as they perhaps should be. I also felt that the foam would have been better served being several thinner layers as opposed to one, full volume cube. I had a tough time making some of the contents sit comfortably (as opposed to sinking into the base of the foam) after removing a space for them. My inelegant solution was to crumple up the removed foam, and use it to pad the holes to proper depth. It works well enough, but layers to make various depth holes would have been a much better solution.
However, I have learned there IS optional layered replacement foam, so my critique is more "that should be the included version" than a lack of design thought. The solution I used is well enough and keeps everything fairly snug and protected.
Highly recommended. Great case.

Comments about Pelican 1450 Case with Foam (Black):
Just a couple of cons... Pick and Pluck foam - a blessing and a curse. I wish that stuff wasn't quite so easy to break apart. With heavy use, it seems to separate pretty easily. Also, the latches on this particular case seem a little difficult to close, and require more than the usual amount of effort. They open easily enough.
Other than that, everything about the case is excellent! I

I am a retired Marine Corps Combat Camera Officer, and am still directly involved in digital photography with my own business. I choose B&H for my requirements because they have a staff in each area of expertise to answer any questions I have prior to buying any equipment. For instance, I needed to know if my Canon 7D, my 28-135, my 70-300, spare battery, spare CF card, and other items would fit in this model.[...] B&H has my business and my recommendation as a life long Audiovisual/Combat Camera/Visual Information professional! You can't go wrong with B&H.

I find it reassuring to know that equipment stored in a Pelican case will remain dust and moisture free for the duration. It's also nice to know that the case wont break should it be dropped, even with heavy equipment inside. I've also discovered that it's possible to have foam custom cut by third party companies, a nice option.
