The M. Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II (Mk2) Micro 4/3 Lens from Olympus is the standard 3X zoom kit lens, and has been redesigned to be even more compact and lightweight than before. With a digital-dedicated design as well as multi-coating on all lens surfaces, this exceptionally lightweight (5.4 oz/155 g) Micro Four Thirds lens boasts very high imaging performance. Covering wide-angle to a moderate telephoto, this lens is suitable to portrait shooting, day-to-day photography and travel photography.
This "mark 2" (II) version now incorporates the MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) design, which makes it ideal for use in both still and video applications. The front element does not rotate when focusing, making life that much easier for polarizer users.

Comments about Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II Micro 4/3 Lens (Black):
I bought this for digiscoping but found it to be just a little less sharp than the G1 14-45mm lens I've been using. It is a good lens to use on the Swarovski 25-50x eyepiece with vignetting below 28mm.

Comments about Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II Micro 4/3 Lens (Black):
We all know the limitations of a zoom lens over a prime: barrel distortion at the wide end and pin distortion at the tele end. Against this fundamental flaw, the second generation Olympus 14-42 lens offers perfection. Firstly, this lens means you rarely have to interchange it with other lens in the range, and that translates into less chance of dirt on your sensor, something that mirrorless cameras are susceptible to. Secondly, this lens is what Olympus calls its MSC lens- Movie and Still Compatible. Increasingly, this sort of camera offers decent video capability and having a lens that is near silent is great for videos.
Finally, it is a really, really light lens and a much faster focusing one than the Mark 1 14-42 ,and together with a retro inspired EP2, makes for an outstanding travelling companion.

Comments about Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II Micro 4/3 Lens (Black):
A very good replacement for the original 14-42 that came with my E-PL1, the build quality is noticeably higher with the 14-42II. My original 14-42 had a blurriness to it on one side of the image at 42mm and wide open f5.6, where this new 14-42II is solid at all focal lengths and apertures and the zoom and zoom lock mechanisms are much better "feeling" in use. hard to believe it, but the new "II" version is even lighter than the original kit lens.

Comments about Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II Micro 4/3 Lens (Black):
Read a review elsewhere that detailed the "lens lash" effect on the focus of the original 14-42. It was the kit lens on my EPL-1 and my own experience was a visible blurring at shutter speeds of 100 – 200/sec.
Wanting to keep my EPL-1 (vs the new EPL-2) because of its lower base ISO, I opted instead to simply upgrade the lens. Glad I did. Size, weight, internal focussing, no blurring...the new version of this lens is better in every respect.
