Comments about Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro Lens (For Canon):

I debated whether this lens, the Canon 180 and the Tamron 180. I'm glad I got the Sigma. I do mostly flowers and insects and the results are superb. It works well with my Canon 1.4x extender, a definite plus.

Also fast AF and image stabilization are very much appreciated.

Yes, it is heavy, but I use it mainly on a tripod or monopod. It can be hand-held. The AF and VC buttons could be better, I have a tendency to "overshoot" the setting I want.

Highly recommended!

Comments about Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro Lens (For Canon):

Strictly a macro in my use, married to the 5Dmk2,it gives exquisit 1:1 repro's with no flair, distorsion or abberation. With Macro's,I never use autofocus anyway,so I don't understand why people are so "IN" to AF anyway.FABULOUS for horse show's as well.

Comments about Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro Lens (For Canon):

I'm completely satisfied that I bought the best macro lens for my needs which is mostly macro work in a studio environment. Canon lost out by not having a lens of this caliber. I was plesently surprised that my Canon 1.4X and 2X extenders work with this lens, something that Canon nor Sigma will advertise.

Comments about Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro Lens (For Canon):

I use this for all sorts of macro photography. Wildlife, flowers, ice crystals. I use it as a short telephoto for wildlife and scenic photopgraphy. Very good for longer range portrait and wedding. Extremely good bokeh.
Very easy to use and extremly sharp.
Only negative is weight, however, that is what monopods and tripods are for.

Comments about Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro Lens (For Canon):

I enjoy underwater photography, and wanted a macro lens with a long reach. Canon makes a 180mm macro, but I found the AF to be far too slow. I owned the Canon 100mm (both L and non-L) versions. While they performed great, this lens fills the niche of a longer reaching macro lens.

I really like the finish on the newer Sigma lenses - it's much higher quality than they've used in the past.

Also note that, unlike other premium macro lenses, the Sigma includes the tripod mount.

So far, this lens has worked out well - very sharp and very rich colors. Auto focus is a little slow, but that seems to be true with most 100+mm macro lenses.

But; low aperture vignetting in the corners, heavy.

        I would recommend to anyone.

Comments about Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro Lens (For Canon):

I traded my EF 180/3.5L and got this Sigma which I don't regret for a second. For less money - a quicker, faaar better autofocus, great sharpness.

Little disappointing since I tried to keep only original lenses in my bag...

But, I can only support the above comments.

Haven't tried it as a regular 150 mm, just a lot of macro shooting.

Comments about Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro Lens (For Canon):

I purchased this lens with intention to use for a very closely photographed portrait's project. I found that quality of construction is very solid. Lens is very sharp when is focused. The lens motor works very quietly and responds quickly to a highly defined and contrast-rich subjects.
In my case I used indoor natural light which is not always highly defined. In situations like that I found myself only able to use this lens in manual mode, otherwise it was hunting for focus indefinitely. I was working with 5D Mark II.
For macro shots it delivered amazing color reproduction and delicate contrast gradation. The Image Stabilizer makes noticeable difference in sharpness allowing to take sharp images at 1/30 handheld.
Lens is built with a lot of glass therefore it's heavy.
Overall it is an amazingly bright lens for macro, art reproduction photography and forensics.

Comments about Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM APO Macro Lens (For Canon):

This lens will auto focus on my 5D2 under light conditions that require F2.8 @ 1/25 second at ISO 3200. I think that is EV 3 or 4. The OS works well at that speed. The auto focus is quirky at this EV with the 5D2 using center spot, but may be better with the improved autofocus of my 7D. I don't know yet. I probably won't use this lens with the 7D. I use manual focus with the 5D2 for close up photography most of the time.
I have my own subjective lens tests that I use with every new lens as I decide whether to keep the lens or not. With this lens I found all of the close focus (macro) subjects in good light to resolve beautifully with the 5D2.
When I photograph a starfish hanging in my bathroom window at night at a distance of 20 feet under dim flourescent light requiring ISO 3200 at F2.8 at 1/25th second with exposure adj. of -1, I found the resolution of the starfish to be exceptionally good. Hand held, of course. This is true even at the maximum magnification allowed on the preview screen of the 5D2.
It seems to me that the OS is not really good for 4 stops. It adds a good 2 stops for sure under the dim lighting that really needs it. Maybe it's better with bright light and small apertures. I find the OS to be comparable to the IS on my Canon 300mm F4.0 L. Nothing scientific here. It is not the best available nowadays, but it is pretty darned good. It is way better than no OS at all.
