The 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition from Iomega is a powerful and versatile network storage device with a plethora of enhanced online connectivity features. The spacious hard drive connects to your home network via a Gigabit Ethernet connector and works to bridge the gap between local and online storage -- which is also known as cloud storage.
The ix2-200 is a dual-drive system, and can be configured as a RAID 1 or JBOD. The RAID 1 configuration mirrors data to both physical disks. This halves the available storage capacity, but ensures that no data will be lost if either disk fails. If you need the full 4TB of storage that this drive is capable of, you should configure it as a JBOD. In this mode, your computer will see each physical disk as a separate volume.
You can configure the drive to automatically upload files stored within specified folders to Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr. Its remote data access feature allows you to access your data when you are away from home -- all you need is an Internet connection. You can also invite friends and family to view specific files or folders stored on the drive -- a great way for you to share family snapshots and vacation photos with relatives who think that Twitter is a little yellow cartoon bird who is constantly harassed by "puddy tats."
When you are at home, you'll be happy to know that the drive can stream multimedia files to UPnP/DLNA devices. This includes game consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Apple TV owners will be happy to know that the device has a built-in iTunes server. The Home Media drive also has a built-in BitTorrent downloader, which can grab files from the Internet -- even when your computer is off.
If you are in need of a network backup solution, it should comes as no surprise that this Swiss Army knife of a drive does that too. It can backup all of the computers in your network, and is also compatible with online backup services like Mozy Pro and Amazon S3. Mac users will be able to perform network backups to the drive via Time Machine.
Photographers will be able to download photos from a digital camera to the drive via USB. You can also set the drive to downsize and watermark your photos, perfect for those who wish to share their work online -- but don't want to see it stolen and reproduced without permission. The USB port can also be used to connect an external hard drive -- giving you more room to store files -- or to connect a printer -- making it easy to print from any computer in your network. Users who use Axis IP security cameras will be happy to know that the StorCenter ix2 can act as a server for up to five of them.

I use this device to backup my home network.
Pros: small size, inexpensive, cloud capabilities, friendly USA based tech support
Cons: 1) setup more complicated than advertised. After 4 days, I have yet to complete the setup of all features. It requires knowledge about technical aspects of your router, port forwarding and settings, opening ports, etc. Help is only available from your router's manufacturer, not from Iomega who declines to provide assistance on another company's router. If you're beyond the warrantly or tech support period for your router, you are on your own so good luck. Although I'm not a computer engineer, I'm not a novice either and have had PC's for 20 years, maintain my home network, provide tech support for my parents via remote control, and have doctoral degree in a scientific field.
2) the poorly written manual assumes you have knowledge about the field and NAS storage terms that lay public will not know. It's difficult to follow the directions if you do not understand them.
3) no sync program is included. no backup software program is included either but one must download one from the Iomega website.

Ok but waiting on the iPhone app
Using it for backup now. I thought that I might be able to use it with my iPhone better than I'm able to at the present. I would give that a one star.

The iphone developers need to hurry up. Aslo I have some jpeg's that are about 12 mb and the cloud will not display them.
Instruction guide is good for setting up be if you want some additional help (discussion group), you are hosed.

Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
If it is not easy i will not do it. Period. Having said that - i'm quite happy to have purchased this unit. It can be configured through any web interface in the local network, and can be operated just like a regular shared resource from any computer. Has to reside near the wired router (no wireless) - which is the only complaint i could find.
Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
I would say that the StorCenter ix2-200 is a perfect home unit as it does not trouble me a lot. I am able to access XP, Linux, OS X without any issues. Since I use it for my home network I was not much bothered about file safety, yet I would like to mention that the ix2-200 supports exciting data security features and hence one can be rest assured that the data remains safe on the drives. Since the NAS comes with ext3 formatted hard drives file safety is guaranteed. iTunes server works fine and I have copied all my music there. Finally speaking of performance the NAS is the best performing device for the price.
Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
Its hard to believe but true, my StorCenter ix2-200 was delivered on Monday and by the next day my ix2-200 was ready to take in backup. The NAS device came loaded with 4TB drives hence there was no trouble looking out for compatible drives. I plugged the NAS, logged in and created user accounts. The drive was visible on my office network and was also accessible through the web as well. I quickly setup the cloud and was able to copy data between my cloud members and the drive
Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
Contrary to the reviews I came across the StorCenter ix2-200 was extremely quiet and easy to use. Using the ix2 I was able to connect multiple computers over the network connection. All the data rests within the 4TB storage space in my ix2. It works like a central depository. Now all my employees can access data from the ix2 and I am able to restrict access as well.
The ix2 uses Marvel 6281 processor with 1.0GHz and 256 MB RAM. Looking at the specification I felt that it may not be sufficient for my business needs but when I actually started using it I came to realize that it is more than adequate for my business.
Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
The ix2-200 was good on network storage features that include excellent backup software that helps me schedule my backup. Without any human intervention the NAS device ensures the entire backup is up-to-date. It's almost three months since I bought this drive and so far no issues at all. The device has a nice ventilation system but does not emit much heat nor does it make any noise. The device comes preconfigured for RAID 1 and hence no issue as far as data safety is concerned. Good value for the money I spent.
Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
The Iomega StorCentre ix2-200 promises loads of features that allow transferring of files without making any noise. I realized that the ix2-200 is absolutely silent even while running. My ix2-200 came configured for RAID 1. I also found that DLNA and iTunes streaming worked off the box. As far as BitTorrent is concerned I found out that the server does not understand URL and instead I preferred downloading the torrent myself and feed the server instead. It worked absolutely fine.
The download speed is pretty good and the maximum upload and download speed can be configured which was amazing. This way I was able to free up the internet connectivity. There was no issues as far as networking stuff was concerned, email notification and event logs worked perfect.
Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
Though the StorCenter ix2-200 is an entry level NAS device it nevertheless comes with some advance features. The two 2TB drives are field serviceable. Incase of any problem the disks can be removed by powering down the system, hot swap facility is not available. But the drives are easy to remove by just unscrewing the screws provided at the base of the NAS appliance. The ix2-200 does not make any noise while running nor does it radiate any heat. It is an energy efficient NAS device.
The device comes with a three year warranty and unlimited client license for EMC retrospect express backup software. With the ix2-200 my data storage and sharing needs are fulfilled to the core.

Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
Arrived on date promised, was easy to attach to my home network. Didn't like the preset folders - was simple to change to what I wanted. Set as RAID 1 to store music, photos and produced video. Haven't tried the Cloud features yet but instructions appear clear. Some noise from drives but not offensive. Fan ON indicator was erratic at first - kept getting e-mail notifications. Now seems to be working properly without any tweaking by me. Drives can be removed quickly. I like the metal case which helps to dissipate heat. Performance on the network has been fine for all the video files - no pauses.

Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
I purchased for a backup of all my home data & computers. We have experienced data loss on a few occasions over the past few years. I can't loose family pictures & videos anymore though and hope to create my redundant backup's.
So far I have been impressed with the features and the value of the product. I like the ability to sync or mirror drives over the internet which allows me to store one at a friends or relatives and keep my local to ensure my treasured memories aren't lost.
Obviously time will tell as to the reliability, but for now I am definitely pleased.
Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
When I was going through the reviews of Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 NAS device I was surprised to see that the NAS comes with a built-in torrent support. And when I ultimately owned the machine I found out that it has more to offer other than just torrent support. The device supports bluetooth using which I was able to backup contacts easily. The ix2-200 NAS device that was sent to me came with cloud support. It was configured for RAID 1 level and ensures device-to-device replication.
Though I have used quite a few NAS appliances I found that this is the best NAS that my small office can get so far.
Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
The all new Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 network storage drive comes with a 1ghz upgraded processor and latest power conservation features. The drive does not require much power to function and when not in use the device can be spun down. I noticed when the drive is not in use for an hour or so the spindle motors automatically spins down thereby conserving energy.
The drive also comes with built in fans that run quietly without causing any disturbance. The ix2 is also priced very reasonably. There is absolutely no doubt that StorCenter ix2-200 is the best network storage drive in this category available in the market right now. I have personally checked out the features of ix2 and am totally happy with the device.
Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
The Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage drive not just looks impressive but is priced well. I am an average user and I found the ix2-200 extremely simple to install. Even advanced features like setting up iTunes library was done without any help from support. No wonder they call it an ideal storage solution for small office. I would say not just small offices but distant offices as well.
The ix2-200 has the power required to push your network storage performance as it is loaded with a faster processor and a RAM. The all black enclosure with Iomega logo on either sides look attractive. The device is designed keeping in mind the utility value rather than the aesthetic value.

Comments about Iomega 4TB (2x2TB) StorCenter ix2-200 Network Storage, Cloud Edition:
The Iomega StorCenter has lot of features that attracted me like the in-built torrent, remote access, Bluetooth support and time machine compatibility as well. But of all the features what impressed me the most is the Bluetooth connectivity. All I needed to do was to add a Bluetooth adapter and I was able to upload and download files onto my cell phone without any cables. Moreover Iomega StorCenter is a green device that promises to have abided by all green norms. The device is easy to use and does not need any expert help for installation. I am able to connect with all my networked devices through this product.
Moreover StorCenter supports advanced media features and I view videos and pictures from networked devices that are compatible with StorCenter.
