Tough and smart? Yes, the Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS Digital Camera is quite the catch. With numerous design features to keep it protected against the elements and then some, this Optio is no sapling. Add to that the GPS functionality, and this WG-1 GPS cam not only protects itself, but it also knows where it is, at all times. GPS is great for geo-tagging your photos - for archiving or sharing online. And the waterproof, shockproof, crushproof, coldproof, and dustproof capabilities ensure that it'll be around long after you drop it at the beach.
Now, when it comes to the actual images, the WG-1 GPS won't disappoint. This point-and-shoot captures 14Mp photos and 720/30p HD video. Helping the camera do its duty would be a Pentax Zoom lens, 5x optical zoom, digital image stabilization, a 1/2.3" CCD, and a nicely sized 2.7" LCD. Another useful feature includes an HDMI connection for direct transfer of video to your HDTV. In addition, the camera also boasts a Digital Microscope mode for capturing macro images.

Comments about Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS Digital Camera (Yellow/Green):
I shoot a Nikon d90 w/a lot of high end lenses, so I'm pretty critical when it comes to using anything less.
My old canon point and shoot was falling apart. all the little plastic bits were getting loose and squicky. So I retired it for underwater housing use only and started looking for a sturdier point and shoot that could handle my abuse.
I ended up picking pentad's optio wg-1 because it was the 10th version of pentax's series of fairly well engineered and well-reviewed everything-proof cameras.
I love the way the camera feels. Solid. easy to grip. the strap is great, easier to fish out of a bag, attaches to a belt loop, etc.
High quality images. Features that I wouldn't expect: program mode, manual focus mode, bracketed shooting.
The macro. OMG. soo awesome. I would recommend the camera JUST for the macro alone. the built in ring light is fabulous. you can turn it on manually and use it as a flash light.
Battery lasts a few hours of rigorous use. I'm going to buy a spare.
GPS takes a long time to get a signal. don't count on all your images being geotagged.

Comments about Pentax Optio WG-1 GPS Digital Camera (Yellow/Green):
Love the rough and tumble looks and feels great in the hand. Purchased to use while riding motorcycles off road and the carabiner clip was a major factor in my decision to buy as I wanted easy access to the camera without fumbling through pockets or tankbags. Nice feature. Camera comes with a micro ring that is apparently designed for very close shooting - have not read the manual on that feature yet. It snaps on over the lens but I noticed it was threaded on the outside so I purchased a screw on filter to protect the lens. Worked great .... until I went riding and the ring and the filter fell off somewhere on the trail. The ring needs to affix more firmly if the camera is designed for rough use. One problem - my camera would not turn off. Had to recharge every night. [...]
