    Comments about Onkyo TX-NR5009 9.2-Channel A/V Receiver:

I use this receiver with high end components--5 speakers and sub, blu-ray player that doubles as a cd transport and SACD player, and a 60" plasma television monitor.

Onkyo receivers have been part of my home theater gear for more than 15 years, as I favor the sound even over the highly rated Denon. In the past, I have had only two real reservations-- that the onscreen menu was something less than intuitive, and that the high end and more powerful Onkyo receivers run very hot. Both issues have been addressed in the 5009. I am convinced the unit runs cooler (at least I don't THINK you could fry an egg on it anymore!) and the onscreen menis attractive and easy to follow.

More than in the past, the Onkyo is easy to setup, sounds great, and is not quick for obsolesence, with a potential 9 channels, 3D capability, wireless ready and software upgradeable via wireless or USB dongle.

Two cons-- the unit weighs 55 pounds so be prepared with lots of listening and dvd materials as you spend days recuperating on your sofa. And... for almost $3K you'd think Onkyo would include an Operation Manual instead of making the owner download it from their website!

All in all-- this falls in the expensive but woth it category.
