Comments about Onkyo TX-SR309 5.1 A/V Home Theater Receiver:
I use this receiver to drive a M&K Sub-Sat 2.1 system in an 11' X11.5' room at low to moderate volumes. The receiver is fairly intuitive to operate. Controls and display make good sense. It is a good value, price for features. The music optimizer circuit is pleasant. I am very disappointed that it's speaker connections are the cheap spring loaded push-in clips. No rear photos were shown, but I thought I read speaker connections were binding posts. These lousy push in speaker connections prevent using good grade speaker wire and/or real connectors like spade lugs or banana plugs. Very unprofessional, even for consumer grade gear in this day and age. I called a local stereo shop to see if they had any adaptors so I could still use my good Monster Z-series speaker wires that have factory molded banana plugs.. They said "no" as they never see push in connectors anymore. Even [@] did not have a way to adapt and all their receivers, even very low end brand and models had binding posts. Where did this come from??? For this reason I would not buy this receiver again and I would not recommend it. I did get some fairly good upgrade wire, stripped the ends and stuck them in. Not up to my standards, but will do for this application, at least for awhile ;-(

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR309 5.1 A/V Home Theater Receiver:
I was looking for a replacement to my 13 year-old Kenwood receiver, largely because I needed more connections. No HDMI and only one optical. This Onkyo looked like the perfect replacement - lots of connections. I could rejoin the real world.
But, I found that the sound couldn't compare. So, I called for an RMA # and I've returned it. Relative to the rich, full sound of my 5.1 Kenwood, this receiver sounded like a tin cup.
Sorry, I really wanted it to work. It was a hassle to put a unit, replace, only to reverse the process and ship it back. That was my reality.
Now, I'm back to my old receiver, and everytime I need to use a new component, I'm unplugging my optical from one in put and replugging another.
Please accept my candid input as constuctive!

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR309 5.1 A/V Home Theater Receiver:
B&H recommended that if I were to purchase a home theater that this would be the one, not only because the price was right but because it did exactly what I wanted it to do + it allowed for 5.1 surround sound which would fit the speaker system I purchased so at the end of the day I'm happy with this receiver

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR309 5.1 A/V Home Theater Receiver:
Simple and easy to set up.
Being able to access the setup menu from the screen besides seeing the menu appearing on the receiver is a plus.
The available front USB connection which I am using for my Ipod Touch Gen. 4 is an added feature. This eliminates the need for a separate docking station.
Provided labels that came with the receiver to tag the speaker wires were of great help.
But most importantly, the sound quality is truly impressive considering it is an entry level system. This system replaced a SONY 5.1 home theater receiver. I am genuinely glad I picked this as a replacement. It is a quality product and will not disappoint.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR309 5.1 A/V Home Theater Receiver:
Bought this reciever for a home entertainment system. The in-wall speakers came from Monoprice and a sub-wolfer from Bic Acoustech (12"). In addition hooked it up to Apply TV to catch and play music from iTunes. Incredible sound! A friend (who is in the AVI industry) came over to validate and commented the sound is something he would have charged a lot more for. Easy to install and use.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR309 5.1 A/V Home Theater Receiver:
This is a very good receiver. The set-up is easier because of the on-screen menu.It is time consuming getting the sound to your liking, but once it's there, the sound is very good.I also like the fact that I can control my Onkyo cd player with the remote that came with the receiver. The only thing that could be better is more power, say 100 watts instead of 65 watts.
