The GoPro LCD BacPac is a small, detachable LCD designed for use with 1080p HD HERO cameras. Its extreme portability and one-touch design make it the perfect preview and playback device when you're on location and want to get a better idea of what you're shooting. This allows you to frame complex scenes, check quality and lighting levels, or simply show off your latest exploits to all your friends. Attaching to both the HD HERO and HD wrist housing via the included backdoors, the unit's convenience is enhanced further by the inclusion of a built-in speaker, volume control, and fast forward/reverse control.
Note! May require a firmware upgrade. Not compatible with the HD HERO 960 camera.

Thanks somewhat to an online tutorial video (which could definitely use serious improvement to more clearly describe the installation process) and after several failed attempts to install the software and LCD, I was finally able to get the camera working again. I had to remove the battery a couple of times because the software would hang indefinitely when I attached the LCD. It's now working just fine. HOWEVER, the BacPac interferes with some of the mounts, specifically, the chest mount. You cannot rotate the camera to the level position because the BacPac blocks this. It's great if you want shots of the ground from the chest mount. Although, you wouldn't necessarily to have the BacPac installed for chest mount use, it's a pain to have to remove it, store it somewhere, and re-install it for different shots. Overall, I would still recommend the BacPac.

I was very impressed by the good service at the store in NY. The person who served me was very smart and new the American name for my Canon Legria, which is the European name. I was very surprised how he picked up items under the desk seconds after entering my request into the compture.
Concerning the LCD back, it took me a while to figure out that on one of the waterproof boxes the button for LCD is on the wrong side. The other buttons are also stiff so it´s a bit clumsy to use the box. But it´s very good to have the camera in waterproof box. The LCD screen works fine. - First I thought that there was something wrong with the video file because it played too slow or stoped on my computer. The I found out that it was because I was using the Dell Auto-Air AC traveling adapter. When I unpluged it the video played fine.

Comments about GoPro LCD BacPac:
At first I did not think this was necessary as I primarily used my GoPro for skiing. With some guessing and practice you can do a good job of aiming the GoPro. Once I started using the GoPro for indoor shots It became apparent I needed a way to better frame shots.
Also, this works great to turn the GoPro into an all weather handheld camera. Just add a small hand grip to the bottom and your set.

Pros:
• easy to plug on the camera,
• easy to use, auto power-off,
• perfect to be sure of the orientation of the camera, before starting filming…
Cons:
• the construction (100% plastic) makes me feel a bit insecure… but it comes with a extra back to extend the case…

Works well and simple to use. Definitely helps with composition but eats up battery power. Get a couple extra and keep 'em charged. Can be removed and back door replaced in seconds for when you want extra light.

Really makes the operation of the camera a lot easier and accessing the GoPro's functions so much better. You don't have to look up the codes. It is a breeze to put it on when needed, so you can line up your shots or leave it off while the camera is mounted.

Comments about GoPro LCD BacPac:
The LCD Monitor is essential for framing a shot with the GoPro and if that shot is locked off, the BacPac can be removed if weight is an issue.
The BacPac is also great for reviewing either video or stills made with the GoPro.

Comments about GoPro LCD BacPac:
Used it with my GoPro Hero 2 on a recent trip to Cancun and LCD was very usefull in framing shots etc, but in direct sunlight even with Brightness level set to Highest very very difficult to see.
LCD screen went black on the 3rd day of my vacation and turned out to be a firmare issue on the Hero 2. Luckly they knew about the issue and firmware update was released three days after I called.
I don't like that even when the LCD screen is set to OFF, when doing timelapses everytime the camera takes and exposure the LCD turns back on with every shot thus draining the battery even faster.
If constantly using the LCD screen make sure you have a spare battery.

Comments about GoPro LCD BacPac:
I am a semi-professional video and photo guy who does a lot of work on cars for reviews, motorsport, etc.
I can not overstate how incredibly useful the LCD Bacpac is. I no longer have to guesstimate what the field of view from my camera is - this allows much more precise framing of shots and overall makes the camera MUCH more useful than it was without the screen.
In addition to that, the LCD translates the GoPro menus into plain old English that's easily understood. No more trying to remember what all the little codes mean that display on the front LCD. It's all written out and easy to use now.
It makes the camera a little heavier and a little thicker, but to me, it's negligible. I've mounted the GoPro on the outside of extremely fast cars with the stock suction cup mount with the LCD on it, and there's no difference from without the LCD.
After buying this, I would not want to own a GoPro without one. This completes what was already a good product.
Comments about GoPro LCD BacPac:
Since the GoPro doesn't have an LCD or viewfinder, this is almost a necessity. I use it to setup/aim the camera, then take it off during use. It also has an auto-shutoff mode to save battery (it draws from the camera battery).
Image quality isn't that great, but if you're just using it to frame your shots, it's fine.
