The 3TB SimpleSave External Desktop USB 3.0 Hard Drive from Hewlett-Packard is a desktop hard drive that boasts blazing fast transfer speeds and a huge storage capacity. With a storage capacity of 3TB, you will have plenty of space for storing data, music, video, images, and whatever else from your computer. Moreover, the built-in USB 3.0 port sweetens the promise of this drive because it transfers data at a rate that is much faster than USB 2.0. Even if you are transferring large files to this external drive, the transfer will take less time than if you were using a drive with a USB 2.0 port. Since the USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, you can connect devices that only support the latter interface. Along with the drive, you will receive HP's SimpleSave Automatic Backup software that quickly and easily saves all your valuable files to the external drive. Stylish, speedy, and ready to save your data, this external drive is a fabulous buy that is compatible with your Windows 7, XP, or Vista computer.

Comments about HP / Hewlett Packard 3TB SimpleSave External Desktop USB 3.0 Hard Drive:
I recently purchased an HP SimpleSave 3 TB external drive for backing up my growing collection of music and photos. I already have a 2TB HP Simple Save drive that is now 3 years old. I use the latter for backing up my desktop. The older SimpleSave has performed reliably and was very easy to install and use. So far, the new drive, which I use on a more limited basis also performs well. I decided to reformat both drives and use the Windows7 backup utility on my desktop instead, since I'm already using it for my laptop with the network storage at my workplace. Since my PC only has USB 2.0 ports, I cannot take advantage of the USB 3.0 capability of the newer SimpleSave. Like other reviewers, I have found the data transfer to be relatively slow (my reason for 4 stars.) Having read many negative reviews other major brands of external HDDs (on other websites) which repeatedly raise issues of catastrophic disk failure and other forms of unreliability, I think HP may be the safe choice.

Comments about HP / Hewlett Packard 3TB SimpleSave External Desktop USB 3.0 Hard Drive:
My first hard drive in 1981 was 10 Mb for my IBM, and it cost over $300. The only thing wrong with a drive this big is that if you decide to format it (I always do), you need to start today and come back two days later.

Comments about HP / Hewlett Packard 3TB SimpleSave External Desktop USB 3.0 Hard Drive:
I upgraded from 2tb to 3tb storage with the Simplesave. Intuitive, flawless plug & play in windows 7 64 bit. The issue is speed. On a Fujitsu Lifebook A6110 in a USB2.0, it's clean & compatible but don't expect turbocharged backups. I installed a USB3.0 express card adapter and speed improved marginally. Can't wait to see how it performs on a Core/i7 system with USB3.0 ports. Get it.
