The DS214 from Juicedlink does exaclty what it is supposed to do...work to help me get getter audio from my DSLR.
I am using it with my Nikon D7000 which only has 3 preset levels of manual audio control in addition to automatic gain control. With the Juicedlink box I can have better sounding audio and control over the levels I am recording.

I bought this for my 7D to disable the AGC. While it works, I found the ergonomics clumsy. The mount didn't work with anything I use and the whole thing seemed upside-down. Had to return it. I'll just keep recording audio to a second source instead of trying to record directly to my DSLR.

I use it in a rebel t2i for interviews, sounds clean, and eliminates the auto gain. The way it mounts is a bit unbalanced, you will need a good rig for make it more comfortable to work using this.

I bought the DS214 a half year ago, and it works exactly as advertised. I'm using a Nikon D5100, which has no on-camera audio monitoring. The DS214 is great simply providing that, but it also does a very noticeable job of reducing noise.

I was reminded of this because I dropped on pavement in freezing cold weather, and temporarily put it out of service. Going back to using my mic (Videomic Pro) directly to the camera was horror after enjoying the work that the preamp does.

I would also like to note that JuicedLink has great, no nonsense service. I sent an email about the damage from dropping it (a connection to the 9V battery came loose) and got a prompt, precise reply on how to replace the specific part for a mere $5. Compare that to other manufacturers, where one would have to suffer through time on the phone only to be told to pay $50 or a $100 to ship the device in for repair.

I bought this to use with my Canon 60D and my inexpensive Azden SGM-1x. It's a light and easy setup, and gets decent audio. The Adzen is not the cleanest mic, but it would probably be a little cleaner with XLR inputs, so a different JuicedLink box would probably make the sound a little higher quality. However, for the price this is hard to beat, and it's excellent for on-the-move shooting and convenient setup/breakdown of the rig. Definitely a good buy for me. Bear in mind that with most shotguns it requires an adapter cable like the Hosa MIT-156, and there's no phantom power unless you have a separate inline phantom power provider.

the DS214 got rid of all the noise and I can monitor it with headphones. Best of all, no more audio sync with external recording devices, although that's always an option.
