Equipped with an HDMI input port, the Colossus allows you to directly record HD video from an un-encrypted HDMI source such as a digital SLR.

You can record digital audio using 2-channel stereo or optical audio with five channel Dolby Digital. The video recorder offers 2 hours of HD recording at 5Mbits/sec. With Arcsoft ShowBiz application, you can easily record and playback your video game in HD (up to 1080i) via Xbox360 or PS3 game consoles.

The WinTV v7 TV application enables you to create personal HD video library of favorite TV programs by automatically recording TV programs from HD cable TV and satellite set top boxes. The recorder allows you to connect to any component video equipped with an HD set top box. Supporting a standard definition composite input, the unit enables recording old video tapes and burning these videos onto a Blu-ray DVD disk.

Component video plus stereo and digital audio pass through facilitates simultaneous HD recording and viewing. Included IR blaster and IR receiver/learn cable identifies your cable TV or satellite remote control and can change the channel on your set top box automatically. Comments about Hauppauge Colossus Video Recorder:

I use this in my HTPC to watch satellite tv. I've had no issues with this what so ever and the setup was not too difficult. The picture is good, the delay is about 1-2 seconds, which is very acceptable.

I also got this working with WMC and it works pretty well.

My Colossus is in an Intel Based i5 quad with 8 gigs of memory and lots of hard drive space. I am running it from a satellite reciever with the HDMI only and the HD picture is great.

Comments about Hauppauge Colossus Video Recorder:

I live in Mexico City and recently upgrade my TV cable system contract to receive HD channels with the CABLEVISION provider.

The new set top box from the cable provider only has HDMI, Component and Composite outputs for image and RCA Stereo or TosLink for digital audio. The set top box is a Motorola DCX700 HD.

My prior set top box had a coaxial output for audio and video which was attached to a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 HDTV PCI Card.

Since the new top box receiver does not have a coaxial output I decided to upgrade to this new Hauppauge Colossus PCI-E card in order to be able to watch the high resolution channels and be able to record them.

The card was easy to install using the last drivers from the manufacturer web site on my Windows 7 64-bit PC. I am using the COMPONENT video output from the cable TV top box as well as the TosLink Digital Audio Optical output.

I am very happy with the Colossus card, it allows me to watch the HD channels at full resolution full screen or on a small window the size I desire with the WinTV application from Hauppauge.

The HD TV card works great with my Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro PCIe Sound Card and my AMD ATI FirePro V8800 Graphics Card.

        Hope that helps.

Comments about Hauppauge Colossus Video Recorder:

I use it to archive hd tv programming to my computer hdd using component video out from my receiver to the Colossus card. I can record everything in 1080i. I have not had a chance to burn any blu-ray discs yet, because I do not have a bd burner.
I have not tested the hdmi in or out connections.
Comes with Arcsoft software for editing videos, creating avi or mpeg files, dvd's or blu-ray dics.
